With one of the popular topics in what-if videos being about turning a character good, I thought it was about time to make one of my own that could've realistically happened. If the Z Fighters decided to deal with the androids before they became an issue, what if instead they were all reprogrammed like 16? Here's a movie version of this what-if!

The part where Cell makes an army of Cell Jr.’s is pretty hilarious. But my only question is what happens to them after. It’s not like the multi form technique that makes temporary copies that re-merge after a while, each Cell Jr. is a free willed individual that’s there to stay.

In this timeline, Cell might just be the best paid employee at CapsuleCorp. Also in the original timeline, Gohan could not train because that would clash with the studying; but with Cell around, he can do both at the same time.

It's been a year, Salad, so you probably won't see this, but I actually know why Cell wasn't made perfect. It's because he WAS, but Toriyama's editor complained about his appearance, calling him an "ugly bug man" and saying they need a better looking villain, or else nobody will take him seriously. Toriyama mostly writes his stories on a chapter-by-chapter basis, he doesn't really have a huge overarching plan for anything. So he agreed, and improvised a transformation for Cell to undergo. Cell was never originally intended to change his appearance, he was already "perfect" from the start. The transformations were added by the editor. That doesn't make sense in the context of the universe, but that IS the reason. It's largely up to us to invent a reason for why Gero did this.
My headcanon is that the most advanced part of all three androids is their energy system or reactor that gives them infinite stamina: Gero didn't have enough of whatever he needed to make a large number of those things, so he compromised. He made three of them, and put one into 17, one into 18, and one into Cell. Cell gets stronger by taking reactors of 17 and 18 and adding them to his own. Gero invented the energy absorption mechanisms as an attempt to make the reactors unnecessary in the first place, and gave one of those to himself and another to 19: if an android could simply steal energy from their opponents, they could make the more advanced energy system unnecessary. 16 has a more primitive power source to support his almost entirely mechanical body, which is why he's outclassed by 17 and 18 and why Cell gains nothing from eating him. This is all just headcanon that I made up, but it makes a certain amount of sense.

My idea is Cell has to have his own Infinity Engines, but since Cell is a Side Project, Gero never got to adding his own to him.
Thus, 17 and 18 become important to Cell because of the IEs.
It's not so much 17 and 18, or Geros' Commands, Cell probably sees something is missing from the inside of him, and hopes to rectify it.
Like how Gero didn't want to destroy the world, The Docs Progamming is just so shoddy, someone who can code Cell in Ruby can do a better job.
My idea of why Cell wasn’t perfect is that he was “meant” to be the Plan B for the Androids. We know Gero had him created after 17 & 18 and specifically to absorb the twins then I assume he was the final plan for when they get out of control or if they ever did. He would then become perfect to show that his purpose was revealed.

How would Evil Cell have found 17? He can’t detect his energy at all. The only reason why Cell found the androids in Canon was because of Piccolo’s huge fight with 17.
But they now have jobs and home addresses that Cell could use to track them down (like the first Terminator movie), where in the original they were just drifting from place to place.
Dr gero has probably in the basement a gadged cell absorbed which can detect the GPS position of the C17 and c18

My guess about Cell not being perfect from the get-go: time, and resources.
Gero probably had limited resources to build the infinite power engines in 17 and 18. Plus, Cell was still an embryo, so it wasn't like Gero could install such parts into him yet. Cell would take over a decade to fully mature, and besides, Gero might find some new DNA to use to tweak with Cell's genetic code further in the future.
I don't think that's the truth
Seems as good a reason as anything else. Toriyama was a very off the cuff writer with some editor issues, so sometimes we’re left trying to put together the pieces of something that doesn’t necessarily make sense when you think about it. A lack of time and resources would make sense to me.

Yeah this makes the most sense to me. Like, why would he not have given himself and Android 19 infinite energy as well? Why make himself and 19 weaker than 18 and 17, if not for the fact that he simple didn't have the resources. The man was living in a cave, he didn't have large quantities of funding.

He didn’t make him perfect because cell was his plan b.. if the androids betrayed him cell would get rid of them... making cell have a strong desire to be perfect, and cell needing the androids to become perfect. That was the perfect motivation for gero to install Into cell, also making cell stronger in the process
The motivation of cell is not to defend the doctor but to fill his stomach cell food is energy(lifeforce) . He wants to be perfect because the only way he can stop eating is by consuming the androids which gives him infinite energy

I remember that Cell once absorbed Krillin in one of the What If scenarios in the games, he got a whole new look so I'd think that this Cell would also get a new look.

I think it would be more interesting had Good Cell started out imperfect like the original, but since he's morally good he's neither obsessed with perfection nor out to absorb 17 & 18 or anyone else. Then, GC trains with the others and grows stronger before Bad Cell shows up and manages to absorb 17 & 18. Thus, we get Imperfect Cell Vs. Perfect Cell, and of course the latter crushes the former until GC trains in the Room of Spirit and Time, letting GC match BC.
At that point, things go more or less the same with Gohan going SS2 and obliterating BC perhaps with help from GC. The really interesting part is the Majin Arc and afterward. Good Cell doesn't want to absorb 17 & 18, but despite his training for 7 years eventually he has to and they let him in order to stand up to Majin Buu, who gets released. Then Good Cell becomes more than powerful enough to completely thrash Majin Buu, even as Super Buu.
personally, i thought golden cell would be viable since he has Frieza's dna, and frieza can transform into golden.
And since cell has all the saiyans' cells, t would be even easier to achieve with zenkais and frieza's potential.

I got an idea for a new transformation for Cell:
Celestial Cell, a combination of SSJ God and Golden Frieza, except that instead of a metallic look like Frieza, Cell has a glassy, almost gemstone or jade-like appearance to his carapace.

Personally I’d have added Master Roshi to The mix that would’ve been Cell, Why him?: to integrate Roshi’s 300 or so years worth of combat experience, to then equal a Cell with no equal, because on top of his gifted experience, he’d be gaining experience from his own path so literally there wouldn’t be an opponent he couldn’t fell like a tree
I always thought that he needed the two perpetual energy generators in 17 and 18 to have enough energy to metamorphose into and maintain his perfect form (as seen when he de-morphed with the loss of 18) and Gero only had the money and rare materials to make two and use them to power his then known to be hard to control rebellious creations. In order to save on costs and to have the "PERFECT" backup plan, he redesigned cell to be created and activated upon the deactivation of a hypothetical wireless connection to the sub-lab's supercomputer with the purpose of absorbing them, attaining perfection, and killing Goku, like some overly complicated dead-man's switch.
Not really as he re-obtained his perfect form in canon after he blew up. He no longer had 18 but he still obtained it. I suspect that the androids were a shortcut and a backup plan on behalf of Gero. If he kept absorbing lifeforms he would've eventually turned into semi-perfect and then perfect form like some demented pokemon.

I do like the idea that Cell was a background backup plan. If 17 and 18 were completely out of control, Cell was designed to be able to absorb them, completely removing the threat of them, but as a scientist, this would also mean that Gero's greatest works weren't simply discarded. They would be repurposed, and Cell's perfection would thus also possibly be something he could hang over his creation's head to instil loyalty, even just for the time being. Cell was never made to be Perfect because he was never actually supposed to be used outside of a worst case scenario; the computer in Gero's sub lab was thus coded to complete Cell only if Gero was killed.

You see, Dr Gero was the head scientist ever since the red ribbon army was created. Dr Gero and Dr. Flappe created Android 8 (yes. Gero helped on creating Eighter) and after seeing Eighter becoming good, he feared that his other Android creations could fight back against him. After during creating 17 and 18, Gero made Cell as the ‘main project’, for since if ever 17 and 18 rebelled against Gero, Gero would have used Cell against them.

When you made 17 black or just the zamasu taking lapis' body, you should have had future zamasu also take 17's body as well making two android 17's and instead of merging with potara earrings, they merge like GT and they become 'Merged 17' or basically making Super 17. This may sound dumb to you but I like this idea a lot😅

Also since Kami is still the Guardian of Earth (which in turn means that the Dragon Balls are weaker), wouldn't that mean that Frieza (Freeza?) would be unable to be ressurected? There was an original timelimit of 1 year from the moment a person died an unnatural death.
I think they used that wish to make Kami younger and thus stronger.

Cell is really charismatic now that you mention that. He was really well written.
I always figured the reason Cell had to absorb the Androids to be perfect was because he needed both their infinite energy engines to fuel his perfect form.
This was my thought as well, and as for why he wasn't built with engines in him... it's probably because cell *had* to grow up. It wasn't possible for him to become so naturally strong without the 20 years of growing in a pod for him to fester.

I feel like the reason cell needs to become perfect is similar to the way that 13 powers up in the super android movie. He needs their energy reactors and didnt have enough time to make more, and since cell was a backup project, he would come out and take them from the androids should they have failed. Gero would probably have scavenged their remains for the reactors.
Plot twist, cell absorbs zamasu #17 and becomes evil. Starts mass producing cell juniors to kill all mortals.

I think the reason Cell wasn't made perfect was that he was intended to be the solution to the problem that Gero knew 17 and 18 would become. He wanted Goku and company to be taken out as soon as possible, so when he had the androids powerful enough that he believed they could do what he wanted, he couldn't wait to activate them. He knew they were rebellious, and that he wouldn't be able to control them (though, he may not have known they would kill him). He likely foresaw that, after they were finished doing what they were programmed to do, they would just do whatever they wanted, and it probably wouldn't be anything he would agree with. So he created Cell with a personality that he programmed completely, who would act entirely in-line with what he wanted. Having Cell be enhanced by the absorption of the 17 and 18 gave him extra incentive to rid the world of the androids as quickly as he could.

I think the reason cell didnt start as perfect is because
1) he was the 3rd choice for final villain
2) his progression allowed for our heroes to have the time to do so themselves as because of 1 they needed a way to jack their power to combat cell and if he was perfect off the bat they'd of been Ramrodded
3) this allowed the z fighters to ally themselves with the androids in a sense with the common enemy of cell and a way for them to join the cast and not just purged from the story

If cell's constantly drawing on zamasu, & let's face it, even if he's immortal, the amount of energy cell requires for attacks vs. Zamasus power...is Zamasu even going to be able to remain conscious for more than a few moments to get his thoughts together?
As long as cell is fighting, zamasu is officially screwed in this scenario. Even if he tries to corrupt Cell from within, his immortality is going to be working overtime as is just to preserve his existence. This absorbtion fate I believe would be more akin to Buu absorbing someone, minus the personality traits, because since Zamasu is being drawn from, but never completely assimilated due to the immortality thing...
Yeah, realistically, this was, or should have just been a major beneficial power gain for Cell.
I guess there's some technicalities, like how fast does Zamasu regenerate if it's consistent. Like cell has to take a breath after so many attacks, even if it's just for a second, if he met a foe where he tried to attack consecutively.
Probably doesn't seem like a major deal, considering regeneration from an immortal wish is virtually instant, but as a certain time asassin could tell you, pretty much every second counts XD

I actually have a theory about why Cell started out Imperfect: remember how the Infinite Energy Androids were so uncontrollable? Gero might've wanted the benefits without the rebellion. Cell never really runs out of energy once he becomes Perfect, only ever really gets winded for a minute or two whenever he gets halfway blown the F up, and then he's 100% fine.
Alternatively, there's a good chance those damn engines are pricey as hell to build and Gero couldn't make more while staying hidden, so this was the compromise.

The reason Cell wasn't Perfect from the get go is, assumedly, energy.
He needed to drain energy from humans to survive and thrive, and 17 and 18 are infinite sources of energy, so they'd possibly be necessary to account for the energy consumption of his perfect form.

To be fair, Cell's Perfect form was so strong it mopped the floor with the legendary Super Sayian; a being of myth that was capable of defeating Frieza, who could destroy entire planets with a single blast. And Cell fought multiple of them without breaking a sweat! Just because they have "infinite" energy, doesn't mean they can exert it all at once, otherwise the Androids SHOULD have been completely unstoppable, since they could (in theory) have simple use a portion of their "infinite" energy to vaporize anyine they fought just by throwing a punch.
Cell transforms when he absorbs the Androids, because their "infinite" power isn't infinitely exertable. The Androids actually only have infinite power, in the sense that no matter what they do, they never get tired. Cell sustains himself by absorbing energy, which he then uses up. When he absorbs the Androids, his body now has a new (and never depleatable) source of energy, and due to the Frieza cells in his body, he transforms into a new form, because his body now has a source it can constantly pull from. His body has a constant energy level, so it can withstand using more power without the risk of running out. This is why once he becomes Semi-Perfect Cell, he no longer goes around absorbing people; he already has an infinite fuel source. Before, Imperfect Cell just went around eating entire cities instead of looking for the Androids. Why would he waste time absorbing humans when he could look for the Androids without risk of being caught by the Z Warriors? Because he needed a source of energy, and couldn't risk running out of power while looking for the Androids. Once he had the Androids absorbed, he didn't need to look for a food source. This is also why he had to "eat" the Androids instead of "drink" them, since their energy source wasn't biological, so he needed to incorporate them in a way that transfered their machinery instead of just biological matter. After all, what did Perfect Cell do before the Cell Games? Sat on his ass and did nothing.
@@Catsrnice_ i like to think that the infinite energy sources need organic components (16 was never said to have one correct me if i'm wrong) and that is why 17 and 18 are able to get stronger they are training to be able to produce not only faster but also more of it. it would explain why cell never got stronger beyond zenkai boosts as he's unable to train those sources once he got them (which would partially explain why he didn't train beyond arrogance) due to how his absorption ability works
My take on the androids infinite energy is that it’s only to their relative power level. You can only exert the energy as quickly as it’s produced, even if it’s endless it can only produce at a certain rate. Think of putting 1 battery in a device that needs 2, even if that battery never runs out it still won’t output enough power to power the device properly.
Cell has 2 androids in him with endless energy relative to their own power level, since his power is the combination of both the androids plus his own, their energy supply isn’t enough to replenish his as quickly as he can expel it in a fight. This explains why he can still get tired in fights, albeit he should certainly be able to recharge a lot quicker when taking a short rest.
It makes logical sense, I don’t think in reality it is this way because I don’t think they really thought about it so in depth. Would have made an interesting final battle with super perfect cell if he came back stronger but without 18s supply of energy he couldn’t sustain his power for long in a fight 🤷🏽♀️

Its possible that Gero had cell be imperfect as a sort of fail safe. In the first place i think he had a self destruct mechanism in all of his new androids which is why he was killed by androids 17 and 18. They did not want to be controlled so took advantage of Gero's pride in his creations being completely subservient to him so that he would lower his guard. In this case cell was made imperfect because he was a side project and a countermeasure in case android 17 and 18 needed to be put out of commission. Gero while prideful is smart. Its not to far out their that Android 17 and 18 were also meant to act as countermeasures for cell. With a self destruct implementation, Gero could destroy them if needed therefore preventing cell from reaching his 'perfect form'. For cell becoming perfect was the carrot while the stick was the fact that he could only 'evolve' if he absorbed both androids. If Gero controlled the androids he controlled cell and if the androids betrayed him then cell was there to end them. At this point, i dont think Gero cared much for death since he had already transferred his conscious to an android body and had multiple fail safes in place in case of his subsequent destruction or 'demise'. In fact Gero at this point pretty much fits the 'mad scientist' title and while he may have the smarts, that doesn't mean he is wise. In fact Gero could have easily been redeemed, but his desire for revenge and years of loneliness blinded him to following such a mutually destructive path.
I think doing a spotlight on a Gero Redemption story might be interesting, i always find it fascinating on how many what if's you can come up with. Great video.

With the way Cell was portrayed it was clear that he was not another android/cyborg but instead a genetically modifyed lifeform using genes from all the fighters to have the potential to be perfect. He needed sustenance to grow into that form though, as with about any species. He was born rather than built, as there likely wasn't anything strong enough to be used as a basis for a perfect being.
I htink the rest becomes clear once you think about issues with mechanical modifications on something that is still growing and how Cell's body is tuned to transormations, likely partially thanks to Freeza's DNA. He needed to mature first for a few things and using those unreliable androids as food seems like killing two birds with one stone.
They'd become evil like they were in the future. The reason the real timeline Androids are somewhat good people is cause Gero never had the chance to reprogram them to be psychopathic
If Zamasu is disgusted by mortals creating their own life forms just wait until he hears about the birds and the bees.
My concern is that Zamasu would somehow be able to take control of Cell from within, considering the fact that he kinda became the sky when Trunks beat him originally.
