I'm brand new to laser engraving and just picked up a 40w CNC Fiber Laser myself. Using factory settings I can engrave any of those black laser cards for sale on Amazon fine but on any other metals - nearly nothing! What could I be doing wrong? I've looked for a depth setting in EzCad which it came with and didn't find anything, I tried all different random MhZ and power settings and still no change. I can see a very slight marking if I set it to loop 10x for instance but not much beyond that yet the manufacturer shows it cutting deep into firearm slides and such. Of course out of China I'm getting no support so just wondered if any of you experienced engravers might know what I'm doing wrong?
@@n.r.8719 Yes, I did buy the 50w (not 40w like I said above) and it's still like having a brand new Ferrari in your garage unused because you were never given driving lessons. That being said, my problem isn't everyone elses problem. If you were to buy a machine and give it the much needed attention it requires in training, you could probably have a business setup and running in laser engraving within a month. I personally only get maybe an hour a week to play with it I'm so busy running a ring manufacturing company and only bought it for engraving my rings on a rotary dial so I haven't put it up there on my major to do list even though it would generate an additional 2k monthly for me in income because I'm a small business and work 14 hours a day, 7 days a week and just having a very hard time finding the time to learn. With that, let me get to the point of what I've learned. 1. Yes, it takes a lot of dedicated time and training and there are almost no training facilities anywhere in the United States online or in person for some reason. This is a trade you almost need to be grandfathered into by someone you know otherwise it's all learning by hard knocks and a lot of online research for bits and pieces. 2. I did find one company in Mission Viejo, CA but it costs me $1,500/day in training. This is apparently what the going rate is if you want to learn. 3. You are going to have to learn and master far more than just EZCad2 which from what I can see all laser engravers come stock with. You will need to learn and master Corel Draw, Adobe, and a number of other software programs particularly if you want to get into 3D and custom engravings. My best source for training.... Right here on TH-cam, section by section, bit by bit and you practice what you learn as you go. That is the best information I can give you thus far and like when I was first told it would be all learning by "hard knocks self teaching", they weren't lieing. Hopefully this helps a little and for what it's worth, here's the machine I saw on TV that looks honestly, pretty sweet! glowforge.com/?Search-Laser_Cutter-Exact-Hear-GP&msclkid=371c8db0f7231400adb3ecaed2bca301

40W CO2 can do the same thing. No need for a fiber laser; you're just burning the anodization layer off. Even the little diode lasers around 20W (optically 5.5w) should be able to do it. If you want to deep etch, you'd paint the section you want etched, lase the paint off and then use a chemical etch.

Know this, if you are in the business of engraving the ,"Firearm," part of a gun, you are supposed to have a gunsmith FFL. If you stipple, repair, or install parts or any modification of what ATF calls the firearm, you can not keep it in your possession overnight. It must be returned to the customer the same day, unless you have an FFL. Said firearm would have to be logged in and out. You also must provide the means to secure it, just like a dealer or other FFL.

which brand engraver are you using? interested in purchasing one for myself
There is no branding on it. It is a generic fiber laser from china, but the laser source inside the control box is identified as Maxphonics. If you search ebay for "30watt fiber laser" you will find they are almost all identica
thanks!

I know that probably is late to ask but, can you please share with us the price and seller of this machine ? Thank you so much!
Hi Alexandru! We sell a 30W laser that has this capability. Check it out here: swistek.com/product/fiber-laser-marking-machine/
swistekswiss thank you verry mich but do please email me with a price offer for this machine also for a bigger table size alexandruchesoi@gmail.com
Why doesn't any of these companies list the prices on their machines? What are they afraid of and/or hiding?
gunfunandstuff Sticker shock and competitive pricing. For example, we have a 12”x24” ULS 40w CO2 laser, it had a $14,000 price tag. The one Epilog machine that I’m drooling over is around $65,000.
they are with aluminum tube
for 65 K you should have a 1 kw 4x8 laser, and not the cheapest one
its all about how you can sell your stuff
cutting acrylic letters and tactile letters, the 65K machine would send bankrupt the company
That thing is fucking horrifying
Edit: thank for like.
Can you do this to any AR Lower? If so, does it have to be gutted ?
th-cam.com/video/qY3VXxzIjOY/w-d-xo.html
Yes, and no it does not need to be gutted
Im looking at starting a small business engraving gun parts like yourself and selling at gun shows but cant decide if I should purchase a co2 or fiber laser first. Any advice you could give and your opinion on which would be better to purchase first. I cant find much help online and any information you could give would be greatly appreciated sir.
Fiber laser is what you need for engraving on gun metal. CO2 is better suited for non metal parts
fiber is the best bang for your buck.
hmm
you can get a nice fiber laser on Ebay shipped from USA California 30w system for $5500 only.. I got one and I love every single day
@@hemidesign omg, 30w laser only at $5500
Will it cut to the legal marking depth for serial number and firearm info?
Bobby Eaves yes

30watt fiber laser. With galvo head
about how much money per one🧐
Nice skull 👍
$30. - 40
You also must provide the means to secure it, just like a dealer or other FFL.
what's the price of this machine in Indian rupee,s ?
Can you engrave on uneven surfaces?
Only within a couple mil of the focal length. There are some machines that have a motorized z axis that can follow a contour. Mine does not have that ability.
@@ajimachining2537
That would be a nice feature, but it would likely be a huge bump in price and complicate programming beyond what most people could do.
@@joelanderegg2092 th-cam.com/video/qY3VXxzIjOY/w-d-xo.html
How long did it take to do this?
This was filmed in real time. I went over it 3 times to make it deeper. The time depends on what fill pattern I use and how deep I want to go. Still learning every day!

Yes, Chinese 30w fiber laser. So far no issues.
I got also Chinese machines..
routers and co lasers.. they working fine for me..
however with same machines many folks just cant work..
there are people year long they can not start with machine they just don't get the logic of how it works..

@@cnccarving you are correct, if you are first time get your hands on the laser machine, and did not get good training, you will always worring to damage the laser or hurt your self.

Dont know and not willing to try
depending on the setting, barely anything at all to a small localized burn...skin doesn't absorb this wavelength all that much, at least not white skin.

That looks great! Have you tried "deep" engraving for NFA projects and if so what are the settings, as I too have a 30 w fiber china laser
Yes I do NFA engraving because i am an FFL.
It all depends on what it is going on and if it will be re finished.
I am working on a video that will explain more of the power settings.
But for AR lowers 60% power 2 hatchs x10 passes at 90 and 180deg. 1 finish pass at 315deg, pass 1 and 2 at 35hz. Cleanup at 75hz

Still using the EZ Cad.
The driver board and Ez Cad are married. Seams like the dongle is programmed on the board.
I have not tried another software. The only Ez Cad version thet works is the one that came with the machine. And that usb stick was flagged by antivirus. Be careful with chinese supplied software.
The coard card is only match with the EZCAD software, this software has own driver to reject fake software, that is why mismark as a virus
