This song hits a very special chord for me. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago and being poor, as a child, I remember my parents would save up all year to take us kids to the Six Flags Great America Amusement Park. When you walk into the park, there was a sprawling garden full of every color of flower you can imagine, a huge wishing pond and directly ahead, as a kid, looked like the biggest carousel ever created. There were stands serving fresh popcorn, cotton candy, you can hear the roar of crowds on the rollercoasters and I remember holding my parents hands, as excited as a kid can be. Throughout the park were speakers blaring old rag time music and I always remembered this song playing on the loudspeakers, smelling the popcorn and cotton candy, seeing all the bright flower colors, hearing laughter and screaming on all the rides. I sit here, crying, of how wonderous those moments in time were. Thanks for playing this song, a big fan of yours, but, this one really tugged at my soul.

My grandfather taught himself to play piano by ear starting with this song. He loved ragtime. We asked him yo play “Ragtime Daddy” when we’d visit as kids, lying on the floor as we watched his feet move under the baby grand. I'm learning this song for a recital. This video is very helpful to learn small tips and tricks, such as the use of the pedal wasn't in the original Entertainer. This is the best version with the least mistakes I have found on TH-cam. Very well done!
Once you play a lot of songs your brain kinda understands how the songs works that makes you learn songs faster. I have been playing the guitar for some time and i can just hear the song and play it. I am not saying that he is not impressive tho
@@nerfwalid9568 piano is not like a guitar where you don't need sheet music. On a guitar, you know where your chords are, you know the patterns of where your scales are going to be and you can just improvise stuff without having to play solos note for note every time. On a piano, you're using your left hand to play bass notes and your right hand to play scales. I can't imagine how hard that must be to do without any sheet music to keep track of where you're supposed to be in the song. That's why you don't see a whole lot of pianists playing without sheet music, because it's not easy.
@@ADrunkBassist When playing piano, after playing the song so many times with the sheet music, you don't even need the sheet music anymore since your hands just subconsciously know which keys to press. Once you play a song so many times you start to memorize every note you're supposed to play
@@mr.mcnuggies i can't argue with that since I don't play piano myself. I was merely reflecting that guitar is a much easier instrument to learn because the chords and the scales are always the same shape once you learn them and because you don't have to use both hands to play notes, one hand for bass notes and one hand for higher pitches. To me, that would be much easier to do with sheet music whereas with a guitar, you don't necessarily even need a tab to learn a song.
No words!!!!!it's a transcending effect. What a musician you are Sir. May the Spirit bless those hands and mind. Thank you so very much for the joy you have given me just now
Well done. Scott Joplin was a genius his own time. Too bad the march structure of ragtime music didn't last, but it did inspire great music to come after. Thanks for playing it on a upright piano from the time period. Who ever refurbished it did a nice job.
The challenge is the syncopation. You have to completely separate the left hand from the right - Its in 2/4 (Cut time,). And Mr.. Joplin annotated each piece with "Not too fast" . It is really a dance form, used for the "Cake Walk" - not the "Cake run" . :-)
Honestly, kind of happy you didnt cut the mistakes and fumbles. Makes me feel less alone when I play. Whenever I hear performances, the pianist plays nearly perfectly and it weighs in at my own abilities.

I love this played on that piano. There’s something about the way it’s slightly out of tune that just fits this piece. It’s so much better than on a modern totally tuned piano.
i am 50 something and have been playing since i was 4. these rag times, for me, were always the hardest. hats off to you! (i used to have a pic of Beethoven hanging by my piano. gave me inspiration.)
A wonderful version! One of my favorite tunes!!!! It does have that old-timey sound... I can practically smell the unique fragrance of an old piano--musty, with a tang from the strings....
4 out of 5 seniors would agree that if you want to have some nostalgistic fun, look up the 1973 movie, The Sting, with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. This tune was THE musical theme of that greatly entertaining caper/con film.
I noticed that Lord Vinheteiro paid full attention to his fingerings. It's clear he was so respectful of this masterpiece. And he played "not too fast", just how the Maestro would want it. Such an awesome play! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Fantastic for my single all time favorite piano piece. I think it is the best performance I have ever heard.
Incredible execution of an amazing composition. Although Joplin is now highly regarded by many, he's still underrated..... dude was way ahead of his time.
Oh yeah? Is ragtime all the rage right now? Being ahead of your time means you weren't popular during your lifetime. Pretty sure Joplin was pretty big in the ragtime days. Just say he's underrated if that's what you meant
@@SnoopyReads Ha, that's OK..... I'm fine with what I typed above. Thanks though.

It’s like the song has been reunited with its original partner, the piano.
I also love this man, he does a fabulous job on every song he plays.
John Marston: *punches and stabs everyone, blows heads and limbs of the bartender and customers and burns down the saloon.*
The pianist:
sorry to ruin ur joke but this song came out in 1902, three years after rdr2 took place 🤷
Joey Beckstead no problem at all. Just let’s imagine I’m playing the epilogue.

Joey Beckstead yeah
I love the sound of that piano. It sounds just exactly like the upright we had that I played whenever I was growing up. The new pianos just don’t have the correct sound on them - it’s like the new pianos are muffled. The old ones are best and you do a very good job. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Some people can sightread anything - others can't read music, but can play anything by ear.

2/4 is not cut time 2/2 is cut time
I love the sound these older pianos make, I don't know what it is about it, they just sound so authentic. Like it sounds like it belongs in a Saloon.
