      @@kbh8181 take note of the belt routing, try not to disturb it too much after you release the tension off the compressor pully.. it's a PITA if you have to remove the intercooler. The charge pipe has to come off and note how the bracket is attached. I pulled the compressor out of the bottom with no issues. It's all just so tight.. I'd say the hardest thing was the valve under the windshield wipers.. the little Allen head bolts are sunk down.. just take your time and make sure they are both tight.

      @@dustinhodgkinson6377 That's good to know that the compressor can be extracted from the bottom. That charge pipe had me worried but I saw someone else's video on how easy it comes off. Absolutely amazing video series on the ac system change. I have the exact same vehicle and same issue. Just fyi....I think you may have the part numbers mixed up in the description. I initially ordered the 168379 compressor and noticed I had 3 wires on my connector. I sent it back and got the 198322 and noticed it was completely different on the top where the low side is connected. That rectangular box with the 2 screws in it was not there. I ended up sending it back and getting the 168379 again, which looks exactly like the oem factory compressor that I took out.

    • @Drimplant
      @Drimplant ปีที่แล้ว

      I double checked. The 168379 is for compressors that do NOT have the start/stop feature (2 wire) The 198322 is for compressors with the start/stop feature (3-wire) the two do look completely different but the connector itself is the same and the connector from the car will fit both models. But if you use a 2-wire compressor on a 3-wire system, it won't function properly, if at all.

    • @ValidPointsMade
      @ValidPointsMade ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Drimplant right. Same thing I see at RockAuto when ordering these. If you look at the original compressor that was taken out though, there are 3 wires going into the connector. This GLE just like mine doesn't have auto stop/start though. At any rate, I'm now returning the 198322 and getting the 168379 once again to put in as the replacement. Unless there's something I'm missing when it comes to the number of wires being counted in the equation? It's all good either way. This series of videos was a complete life save!

    Several things: Your compressor is a variable displacement compressor (no clutch, and a crankcase) so, if the system is empty (flushed of old oil throughout and dried) the entire total volume oil charge can, and should be put in the compressor crankcase (either as you did on the low side port, or thru that hex-head plug next to the low side port. If the system has not been flushed, you don't know how much compressor oil is still in the system in the evaporator, condenser, TXV, and lines, so a full oil charge is over-filling the system. Also, since you replaced the compressor, it is sufficient to say that the compressor failed. meaning that it wore out. The reality is that there are metallic particles distributed throughout the system and suspended in the oil and not flushing the system, which IS a hassle to do, means you have an abrasive fluid (compressor oil and metallic particles) circulating in your system. As you comment, your system is working. Ultimately though the longevity of your system will be reduced and the cooling performance will be compromised because of metallic particles plugging at least some of the condenser tubes and fouling the TXV seat. . . Saving $5,000 is of course "priceless" or $5,000. . . The concept that your 7 year old Mercedes already wore out the A/C compressor is unfortunately indicative of our current state of manufacturing. . . Not to make this a this verses that discussion, but my 1999 and 2006 Toyota Camrys still have freezingly cold A/C and have never had anything (anything!) done to them. . . I'm here because I'm repairing my neighbor's 2008 GL550, and he didn't want to spend $6,000 at a shop to have his compressor replaced. . . I wonder if the shop estimate included flushing the system and replacing the condenser, receiver/dryer, and TXV, all of which cannot be flushed. . . Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I found your TXV video most helpful. . . Mercedes-Benz is MOST DEFINITELY NOT interested in facilitating DIYers in any way. . . Where the heck is the TXV? . . . I've got an idea (said some MB engineer) lets hide EVERYTHING under plastic covers.

      If you look at all the videos in this compressor series, you’ll see that I replaced the TSV, compressor and dryer. The system was cleaned. The new compressor was drained of all oil. Half the oil required was placed in the compressor and the other half in the low pressure port.

      You should take it to a shop that has an extraction machine and have it removed there. If you simply open a valve, the refrigerant will be expelled into the atmosphere who’s is both harmful and illegal.

Then, using a scale, weigh the freon can before, then after. The difference will be the weight of freon you've added. Continue until you add the amount required.

    i have the same model car and year and my AC is blowing hot air, looks like the clutch is engaging but still hot air. I am about to replace the compressor, dryer and expansion valve myself, but lots of car technicians keep saying that the AC system needs to be flushed to avoid metal shavings contamination into the new AC compressor. Is that true and how is it done? thank you

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did not flush mine. With the dryer and compressor and value being replaced, I just have empty hoses. Could there be some metal shavings? Sure, but if the compressor dies not due to destruction of the physical components, I doubt there would be metal to cause a problem. They would probably be contained in the dryer anyway. But a shop has to warranty their work and it's probably not that much additional work for them to flush. But like I said, I didn't and don't have any issues.

      You let it drain for a while and also manually turn the compressor clutch. This will open up other chambers to allow the oil to come out from there. I turned the clutch slowly until I saw additional oil starting to come ouit and then left it in that position to drain for a few minutes. Repeat.
