The Troll is Charlie's Mom who probably was aware of the abuse but still let Jack stay over and pay rent (something that's confirmed he does). I believe the Dayman is Mac. Charlie wanted Mac to play the Dayman originally and he's a master of karate and friendship. When it was daytime, Charlie would hang out with Mac and therefore be safe from Jack at night.
Charlie is the most endearing character because despite his weirdness he seems to be the most innocent and enthusiastic member of the group. He genuinely loves certain things ie sewers, bridges, various slimes and molds bleach and the way it tastes with a childlike innocence that is actually quite inspiring.
The fact that It’s Always Sunny is a comedy, but when you describe it you can’t help but make it sound like the most depressing thing ever is exactly why it’s so great.
For a lot of shows, that would be damning but it works here because the show is consistent about it & succeeds in being funny. It's not just forced darkness thrown into the 15th season of a show for attention.
I think one of the most revealing things is in the episode "Charlie Got Molested", when he gets coerced into reporting that he was molested by the coach as well, Charlie immediately turns the McPoyle brothers in with the evidence that they lied about the molestation. He doesn't have any ulterior motives, he doesn't have a scheme, he doesn't want a reward. It's something that he took that seriously, and even in the first season it was pretty clear from his character that how seriously he reacts to that has some depth.
Not to mention the original casting of Dennis as the Nightman to symbolise his view of Dennis as the evil trying to ruin his love of his coffee shop princess.
According to this video the nightman is Jack. I disagree with you both. Nightman represents the darkness within Charlie. There is no rape scene in the original script the gang just tainted and cheapened his vision about the duality of man.
@@richardkhchang Two days too late, but Dennis WAS cast as the Nightman but tricked Mac into being him since he considered Dayman/Boy to be two different parts and wanted to be more important than Mac. Charlie even argues "No switching roles!" and Dennis and Mac basically ignored him.
He's dependent on his relationship with Frank. Going so far as to sabotage the relationship Frank had with Charlie's mother to get him back. Or when he suggested an intervention for Frank. Not because of Frank's substance abuse, but because he wanted to play Night Crawler with him. As creeped out by his uncle as he is now, it was the closest Charlie had to any sort of companionship at home as a child. And he's somewhat recreated that with Frank.
When Charlie needs a place to stay and he goes to his mom's, she rented his old room to his uncle jack. His mom says they can share a room like they used to and Charlie's very visibly against it. Uncle Jack says they can "pal around" and "wrestle". Jack's also talked about "pictures" of young boys being taken away from him, and how nobody else should be able to determine "what is and isn't art."
Let's not forget in Old Lady House he comes to the house to find and dispose of a secret USB drive. Most likely his last repository of young boy photos that hasn't yet been "taken away".
"They left me in a world of darkness without YOU'RE SEXY HANDS..." It literally hit me that Uncle Jack is obsessed with wanting large hands. What further proves the Nightman theory is how Jack is a lawyer, something charlie strives to see himself as.
Holy crap! I also didn't realize the lawyer thing. His insistence on being the best damn bird lawyer always seemed like a ridiculous throwaway, but whoa! Now that I think about it, I also wonder if Charlie's childish demeanor is because of what happened to him, the personality he uses to find happiness, or the drug use. 0.0
Joey.T.Cartoon.P but if uncle jack is self conscious about his hands because they're not big or manly, why would Charlie refer to them as strong and sexy in the nightman song
Like it was pointed out in the video Charlie actually liked Uncle Jack and the disturbing act. Hence in the lyrics when he said how they took him away and Charlie becoming said about it. He loved Uncle Jack, even the parts Uncle Jack hated about himself. Its so fucked up.
In the latest episode that just aired “Times up for the gang” there is a moment when Charlie says he was molested and the gang all star saying it was his uncle jack with Mac even saying “you wrote a hole play about it”. Even though he claims it was dee not uncle jack that molested him, the gang all believing he had been molested by uncle jack and Mac flat out saying that’s what the night man is about more or less confirms the theory or at least gives it weight as the gang believe that’s the true origin of nightman
I think it confirms it. But I also think it's possible that the idea of the Nightman being Jack is a bit of a retroactive thing. At the time that they wrote the Nightman, they probably just had Jack as a possible person they could use as the Nightman if they were to ever to reveal it, but it wasn't a set-in-stone thing. As the seasons went on however, they have continually played to that theory purposefully with the intent to set it in stone.
@@StarsDie88 i definitely agree with you, i dont think it was a set in stone thing. I seems more likely that kind of heard about the fan theory and ran with it, or at the very least leaned more into the idea.
@@StarsDie88 They already strongly hinted Uncle Jack as a molester in S1. So I believe the idea of Charlie's past with his Uncle came first, and the concept of Nightman came from that. Not the other way around.
@@gehtdianschasau8372 in the episode “charlie work” the gang succeeds for one of the only times ever- and they only pull it off because charlie is in charge
Mac was Charlie's best and only friend when he was a kid, so theres the chance he could have been the one to get the Uncle caught in the play which makes sense in the lyrics " Dayman ahh ahh Aaah, "Fighter of the Nightman", ahh ahh Aaah, "Champion of the Sun", ahh ahh Aaah, " Your a Master at Karate and Friendship for everone", DAYMAN!!=MAC!! Which explains why Charlie wanted Mac wanted to play as the Dayman. Altho i still think that its stretch.
But it was dennis who come up with sun and friendship for everyone, I do think the play was about his uncle but a lot of this is a big reach and making 5 from 2+2
@@ffpartytricks5058 Dennis got "master of the sun" from "Dayman," which is pretty fucking obvious. Charlie would spend time with his uncle at night, and spend time with Mac during the day. Mac is known for his affinity for karate. And Charlie DID want Mac to play the Dayman. It's not even a little reach. You just missed it.

Charlie is a great tragic character. That scene where he’s carrying his dead father up the mountain and then collapses and breaks down… wow. Probably the saddest scene in a comedy show that I’ve ever seen. That actually got me.
Tiny Boy: Charlie Nightman: Uncle Jack Dayman: Mac Troll: Anyone who knew about Jacks mistreatment of Charlie but let it happen anyway Princess: Obviously The Waitress
Adding more to Charlie and how he can take care and finish a task is the episode Charlie Work(s10ep4). He has complete control over the gang and is able to care of everything (carbon monoxide, chickens, even down to the inspector looking at pipes as someone runs out the door.) , and yet at the end of the episode no one cares or acknowledged his work. Down to the Dee's Joke Chair. Great video, !
Also he describes the nightmans "sexy hands" I wonder if there is anyone in Charlie's life who is insecure about their hands and if they had power over someone would force them to call their hands 'sexy' as a coping mechanism...
Tony Carney nah, he was calling his hands sexy, sexy is an adjective which means he was describing the hands, if he wanted to refer to the actual act of the hand initiating sex then he would’ve had to use a verb, which he didnt

I am so happy this exists. Thank you for your in depth analysis of Charlie, who I personally find to be the most relatable of the bunch. Very enjoyable video.
This is such a great example of the power of editing. The way you cut the clips together mixed with the music and tone of the narration make it feel like this show is some French new wave art film instead of the off the wall goof fest that it actually is. I absolutely love it.

I'm probably going to cry next time I watch Always Sunny lol excellent video. I always thought that Charlie was the least delusional character out of the gang. The most is obviously Dennis lol
@@ffpartytricks5058 And his actor is literally, undeniably, irrefutably, the perfect person for the role. He can switch off the light in his eyes faster than my dad gets the belt. Its wild.
Oh yes they have, you don't notice how much subtle details they put into every character and episode. There is a reason they have had story lines as well as tiny details show up in season one and continue through out the entire show. They put a lot of effort into writing each character and story.
They have hinted toward Mac being Gay, Dennis being a serial killer or at least a serial rapist since the first season but have increased the hints over the years. Those are the two most obvious. It would be hard for me to go into detail over every other easter egg because there are countless. One of the main reasons they are able to do this compared to most other shows is because the Actors, are the writers, the editors, the producers, and to some degree the directors. But to give you one of my favorite call backs is "Nikki Potnick" They mentioned the name in the first season and then again at the High School reunion in season seven. Now that you got me thinking I want to list a few more haha The entire charlie story line started off pretty simple with him just being friends with the rest of the gang, but then it quickly turned out that he is most likely Franks son, and that kind of makes him (but not really) related to Dee and Dennis. The play he wrote the nightman cometh might not have at first played a role in his backstory but once they introduced the song they later fleshed out a lot of similarities between charlie and the characters he sings about. This video explains that pretty well. There are countless episodes that relate back to so many movies, TV shows, plays, books and so many other forms of art and pop culture. In this past weeks episode they included a bunch of Jaws references and easter eggs. Rob (Mac) decided that his character needed to get fat for two reasons, one to put the stereotype of characters getting more attractive and thinner as a show progresses because the actors become more successful. And two because he felt that it would be something that would fit the characters personality. Rob's character Mac explains his logic on why he decided to get fat in the show so I won't go into detail in that. But you can clearly see that the writers decided to go with a story line and write something very extreme right into the story, and it was something that fits his characters personality perfectly. It was no accident that was well planned writing. Like I said I could go on forever, there are tons of TH-cam videos about each character as well as fan theories. You can also check out the IASIP reddit it has tons of posts about it all, and if you got anymore questions there are plenty of people who can list off a lot more then I ever could.
maybe its because its sunny, you see the messed up characters like the mcpoyels and you go "oh they're messed up because it's funny this show is supposed to be seinfeld on crack" so people take everything at face value and never suspect any undertones
From what I've seen of behind-the-scenes footage and bloopers it really does seem like almost everything is done purely for laughs. Characterisation and deep lore don't play much into this show... except when it increases the comedic value. I'd really like to think that "The Nightman Cometh" is about Uncle Jack but I personally believe it's a happy coincidence that could have potentially been retroactively made canon. Early interactions between Charlie and Jack suggest no love lost and that Charlie has always been wary of Jack. If he paid a "troll toll" to Charlie's mother in order to sleep with Charlie there's no way that wouldn't have been brought up in the intervention scene when everyone thought Charlie was molested and Jack was leering onward. They pick and choose what bits matter in order to construct what they think is the best joke. Uncle Jack isn't the nightman, but he might be the troll.
The "spider inside my dreams" line immediately made me think of two people lying down tangled together(8 limbs). Don't know if that was how the lyric was intended but that's a pretty scary visual that could stick in the mind of a child when all other memories were repressed or damaged from drug use. Poor Charlie :(
what about the fact he sleeps with Frank in the same bed, trying to recreate the situation mabey as a firm of therapy, or recreating the damaging situation putting him in a perpetual loop, because he feels comfortable there.
jar4142 it funny I never really look at shows looking for deeper meaning I usually just take it a face value. now that my eyes are open I will never see the show the same way.
I think Charlie uses his shitty and trashy lifestyle to cope with it. Charlie would much rather frolic in filth and huff glue than deal with his problems. Frank sleeping in his bed is probably just because they only got one bed rather than him trying to recreate what happened. I mean if Charlie wanted to recreate what happened he wouldn't sleep ass to ass.
My pet theory is that there are two Waitresses. One was a waitress who would be nice to Charlie when he was a kid, and whom he developed feelings for, which she returned in more of a big sister way, not telling him to go away but not being romantic. This is who Dee represents in the play and why the full grown waitress can sing to the baby boy (while Charlie and THE Waitress are the same age). This woman either went away or for some other reason Charlie lost touch with her (I think somewhere in his late teens Charlie lost a few years to huffing or other drugs), then years later he transferred the feelings he had to The Waitress. One side note, the first 'waitress' could have been Mrs Mac, with Charlie mistaking her Jiffy Lube uniform for a waitress uniform. In fact Dee's costume of a dark red apron over light blue is similar to the 80s Jiffy Lube colour scheme. Only no one at Jiffy Lube wore a princess dress. But flashback Mrs Mac seems a lot more nurturing that she is now, and in 'Mac bangs Dennis and Dee's mom' Dennis seems to remember as being nicer than she is now.
Love this vid. This series, while hilarious, is still open for a lot of introspection and evaluation, and I think that sometimes a lot of the reviews and articles I've seen about it delve a little too deep into every detail, more so than I feel was intentional. I loved this and the Dennis analysis because they reflected some things not just that I've picked up on but also because they delved deeper into the characters while still feeling restrained and not just throwing out theories on every single aspect of the series to sound intelligent and deep.
Does he, though? I think maybe Cricket has just given in at this point and accepted his situation, but Charlie is holding out hope, still going after his ambitions full-force.
I think the biggest clue is "Without your sexy hands" which seems pretty specific. His uncle has a running joke where he is overly insecure over his small feminine hands.
I’ve seen a few people discussing the day man and who that is so here’s what I think. It’s pretty obvious the night man and the troll are Uncle Jack and Charlie’s mother. However I’ve seen people discussing whether the dayman was Charlie, Mac or Dennis. Truthfully I believe Dayman is first of all Mac. As a kid Charlie was probably gullible enough to believe Mac was everything he said he was. Looking up to Mac and modelling some of his interests with his. As Charlie grew he started to see through Mac’s lies and the simplicity of childhood growing to have more complex feeling. That being said Charlie seems to have a few triggers which seemed like it brought Charlie back to a childish state (like we saw in the first night man episode.) That being said Charlie’s character development is the deepest out of all of them and isn’t very obvious unless you look a bit deeper. The Dayman is truthfully Charlie. Despite everyone in the gang being awful people (for the most part) Charlie has a good heart and is merely copying the actions of his friends. Dennis may seem to be the Dayman but the much simpler answer is that Dennis wishes he was the Dayman. He took the role of Dayman in the first song (although he doesn’t earn it as he was willing to put the curtain back up), he steals the role made for Mac in the play and he’s shown to be jealous of the relationship between Mac and Charlie. Mac may of started off as the Dayman, but as Charlie grew so did his confidence. Now he’s proud to be the Dayman of his own life and as shown in the newest series (SPOILERS) he’s dealing with his final character flaw. His complete dependence on a father figure ending that chapter of his life with closure and making his relationship with Frank (one of the purest friendships in the gang) ever stronger as a result.
I love Charlie. He's such a wholesome, yet troubled but believable character. This show deserves all the awards for managing to literally be the FUNNIEST show in history (imo) yet still profound and making you sympathize with these characters.
Charlie sing “They left me in a world of darkness without your **sexy hands**”. Uncle Jack’s hands and particularly his insecurities towards the size of them come up repeatedly in the show. It’s almost as if Charlie is reassuring him that he need not be insecure, that he is normal.
Don't forget the episode where Dee has to live like Charlie for a day, and she sees, unfiltered, the destitution and weirdness that surrounds him every night. I love how you still had to put in the caveat "yes, his circumstances are better than many" lol
I can't Imagine how much time this video took to create. All the specific scenes that are carefully chosen for each topic is very underrated an unappreciated amount of work. Great job!
Ik this is old but they’ve explained on the new podcast that it’s really not that deep. Basically it’s just them fucking around, doing what they think is funny and trying to make each other laugh. Charlie day even said he improvised the night man song
"and pin me down with your strong hands" In season 11 Jack has the big hand gloves which he seems to be obsessed with and Charlie is quite persistent that he takes them off
Wooooow! I never thought of the night man being uncle jack. mind is officially blown. Well done on this video brother! Great analysis of Charlie, who is my favorite character from that show.
Charlie is my favorite character. He's a hard-working individual that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. This is shown all throughout the show and it even amplifies in the episode where the bar is full of people and Charlie is trying hard to stay kept up while everyone else slacks off. His abuse as a child has set his mind back to a childlike state where wonder is everywhere and the slightest things amuse him. This is why he goes in the sewer with Frank to look for things people lose. Now he does say that he's sick of the Charlie work but in reality he enjoys it. He's just tired of doing everything while the rest of the Gang does nothing and the stress gets to him. This, again, shows when he's trying to serve drinks, clean, and everything else all at once. He snaps due to the pressure. I believe that his uncle would come into his room at night with the lights off and touch him in places. Charlie most likely doesn't know who the Nightman is because it's dark and maybe the uncle doesn't say anything. I think that once his mom found out about what the uncle was doing, she told him to stop or he'd be sent to jail which would ruin his lawyer status. The uncle stops touching Charlie and the Nightman stops appearing. I believe Charlie doesn't know who it is because of the episode: Charlie Gets Molested. When his mom holds the baby doll and asks him to point to where he was touched, the uncle gets excited and Charlie reacts in a confused way. I believe the Dayman is Mac because Mac was the one he hung out with growing up like when they'd hang out and throw rocks at trains passing by. Mac knows some karate and the whole song acts as a metaphor in a way. The Dayman is the fighter of the Nightman. Charlie would look forward to the daytime to enjoy his time with Mac and every time they hung out, those feelings fought back the messed up feelings he felt at night. I'm currently halfway through Season 10 (haha laugh it up,) and seeing Charlie's affection towards the Waitress is inspiring. Not the stalking part obviously but the way he takes care of her when she doesn't even realize it. And when they were on the beach in Jersey Shore, everything felt right for him. And when the gas station was being robbed all he could think about was the Waitress and how he wanted to grow old with her. It's kind of amazing how much he cares for her. And yeah I heard spoilers about how they hook up and he can't stand her later on but ehhh. I'll just have to see the change in Charlie then. I still think his character is the most important out of the show other than Denis. They both show how complex their minds are and episode that do that are the best ones for me. Mac, Frank, amd Dee don't really intrigue me the same way those two do.
It may not be about him, but rather a universal dark theme, put to the audience to excorsize those demons, whoever's they may be. Entertainers often share deep, dark secrets in a way that allows it to be brought to light (cuz all demons love light!) while severing the tie to any victims/oppressed. Doesn't mean it is that person's personal experience. If I sang your sorrow, maybe you might of mine. With a sense of empathy, and collaboration, many tell of other's or universal currents. Hopefully it keeps some of the horrible stuff from affecting another. The ideas could be from & about anyone. Most wouldn't confess it as theirs, as people ridicule, and are often cruel. Takes cajones to call such attention on oneself, especially to such a large audience. Makes me respect the actor's work as more than just a show. Great show, btw!
In the new episode, "Time's Up For The Gang" Mac mentions how Charlie wrote an entire play about Uncle Jack molesting him, which confirms most of your theory!
I do agree that he's talking about Jack when he speaks of Nightman. But I think the part where he says "They took you nightman and you don't belong to them" is a reference to the events of that particular episode, and not necessarily what may have or may not have happened to Jack in the past. Because if you remember, Charlie wrote Nightman for the gang to sing as a band, but then he was booted from the group, hence they took Nightman from him as he was the original author. I believe it was this even that is being referenced by the taking of nightman.
The reason Uncle Jack is obsessed with his hands, is because Charlie eventually grew to a point where Jack could no longer "pin him down with his strong hands". Size and strength is relative. In a world where Charlie was a boy, Uncle Jack's hands were big and strong. In a world where Charlie outgrew Uncle Jack, his hands became tiny and weak. So much so, that he assumes everyone else notices that weakness.
WOW. Great and interesting train of thought. The high tone Bee Gee's type of singing of the duet by Charlie and him stimulates extreme laughter attacks, which distracted me from seeing the obvious deep message imbedded/embedded in that episode. The constantly surprising genius NON-mediocre creativity of this outstanding show, I assume, couldn't exist without thought provoking themes. Even when they are not mentioned to viewers like in a fake reality show, the minds that create these episodes are anything...but not stupid, repetitive and far from those "Beautiful modes, Bling Bling, Don't think for yourself" theme shows that get send into living rooms across the world. They are dumbing down society. WELL DONE, you earned to get a click on the Subscribe button.

That ever-present commitment to do better- nay, to BE better despite being more aware of how shit you are than those depraved ones around you is what drew me to Charlie’s character. That and people thinking we’re crazy, and the attachment to other identities (I will often myself do voices or characters); Chesterson Jack is not my real name. Nor is Mela Emily, or Charlotte Hedger, or Chandler Blithe, but as far as they know, it is. Because I want to be better. I want to be GREATER. I want to shout and be noticed and draw eyes and be laughed at and be a source of joy and inspiration for all! I want to tell stories and- and.... I’ve gone on too long. My point is, I’ve found a kindred spirit in Charlie Kelly, and I think I may be in love. I’ve only ever attracted fellow mentally disabled people anyway, so I guess it works out. Or maybe I just need help. I think I need serious help.
I just wanted to say I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into this video. I've subscribed and I look forward to watching more of your great content!
I never put together that his uncle could be the nightman and it was the only way his naive childlike mind could rationalize what was going on to disassociate. That would explain why Charlie is at worst slightly uncomfortable around him because he still doesn't recognize his uncle being the nightman.
I can totally relate to being disillusioned by power. I served 6 years in the Air Force and as a junior member I had aspirations to retire after 20 years, at 5 and a half years I attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and within a few months I knew I hated being in charge of people. I only wore the 4th stripe for like 6 months.

Revealed by Charlie at the end of "Times Up For The Gang" that Jack never 'got' Charlie, but Charlie was raped by Dee and yet Dee did not see it that way because she falsely presumes only women are victims. I truly believe everyone misinterprets Charlie's play hence why he is annoyed by them constantly making it about abuse, whether it was Dennis and Mac getting weird in the bed or Frank incorrectly saying "boy's hole" instead of "boy's soul". I mean, the gang consistently misinterprets Charlie so the part of the song that seems overtly obviously is about rape is actually more than likely just Charlie's stupid way of writing.
Don’t see to many comments bringing up Night Crawlers or other nighttime games Jack likely started early in the grooming process, which Charlie likely wants to play to remind him of a time before things got worse.

What episode is that ?
"They left me in a world of darkness without YOU'RE SEXY HANDS..."
It literally hit me that Uncle Jack is obsessed with wanting large hands. What further proves the Nightman theory is how Jack is a lawyer, something charlie strives to see himself as.
I caught that, too!
OMG I didn't even realize the lawyer thing.
Thats true but Dee did also do shit to him

Mac was Charlie's best and only friend when he was a kid, so theres the chance he could have been the one to get the Uncle caught in the play which makes sense in the lyrics " Dayman ahh ahh Aaah, "Fighter of the Nightman", ahh ahh Aaah, "Champion of the Sun", ahh ahh Aaah, " Your a Master at Karate and Friendship for everone", DAYMAN!!=MAC!! Which explains why Charlie wanted Mac wanted to play as the Dayman. Altho i still think that its stretch.
***** shit, thats right.
But it was dennis who come up with sun and friendship for everyone, I do think the play was about his uncle but a lot of this is a big reach and making 5 from 2+2
FF Party Tricks yes but the karate part was all Charlie
and who’s the karate master of the group?
Ronald “mac”McDonald !
I think Dayman is an idealized version of Mac+Dennis, and what Charlie wants to be.
In a very weird way, Charlie is the closest thing to a “hero” that Sunny has.

The reveal of Charlie’s real father in Ireland, and his joy of finding an actual father figure who cared for him, only for it all to be taken away from him in the end and for a Charlie to snap and feel real anger and sadness for the life of kindness that was taken from him…you realize just how tragic this character actually is
To me that was a retcon.
It was clear they were building up Frank to be Charlie's real father.
Charlie is a great tragic character. That scene where he’s carrying his dead father up the mountain and then collapses and breaks down… wow. Probably the saddest scene in a comedy show that I’ve ever seen. That actually got me.
Tiny Boy: Charlie
Nightman: Uncle Jack
Dayman: Mac
Troll: Anyone who knew about Jacks mistreatment of Charlie but let it happen anyway
Princess: Obviously The Waitress
Troll is definitely Charlie’s mom, she knew about the abuse but let it continue if jack paid rent, which was the troll toll
Troll: Bonnie. Just saying.
Troll is Charlie’s mom
The Troll could of been a different molester named Antonio since that’s the Trolls name in the script for Charlie’s play apparently.

This reminds me of how genius "It's Always Sunny" truly is. Thank you
Adding more to Charlie and how he can take care and finish a task is the episode Charlie Work(s10ep4). He has complete control over the gang and is able to care of everything (carbon monoxide, chickens, even down to the inspector looking at pipes as someone runs out the door.) , and yet at the end of the episode no one cares or acknowledged his work. Down to the Dee's Joke Chair.
Great video, !
Also he describes the nightmans "sexy hands"
I wonder if there is anyone in Charlie's life who is insecure about their hands and if they had power over someone would force them to call their hands 'sexy' as a coping mechanism...
Rey Rapids it would all be in THE IMPLICATION.
VENUS SPOTTED
I think he is just saying those were the hands that were doing the acts that made it sex. Not necessarily saying they are attractive hands.

Is his mother the troll that wasnt there to take care of him and let the Nightman come in to his room?
His mother is the troll. She let uncle jack stay with them and help payed the rent. The money that uncle jack was giving Charlie's mother was the "Toll".

I'm probably going to cry next time I watch Always Sunny lol excellent video. I always thought that Charlie was the least delusional character out of the gang. The most is obviously Dennis lol
Eh, I'd say Mac is
Dennis is the best character I've seen in any show, absolute nutcase and complete sociopath
@@ffpartytricks5058 And his actor is literally, undeniably, irrefutably, the perfect person for the role. He can switch off the light in his eyes faster than my dad gets the belt. Its wild.
Though like the others he does bad things, I've always found Charlie the most sympathetic character. Charlie Day is an extremely charming actor ❤
fuck dude this is extremely depressing. I don't even think the writers are looking this deep into the characters lmao
TheReck
Yeah
Oh yes they have, you don't notice how much subtle details they put into every character and episode. There is a reason they have had story lines as well as tiny details show up in season one and continue through out the entire show. They put a lot of effort into writing each character and story.
Levi Could you give details I haven't noticed that much at all but I'm not very observant
Now that you got me thinking I want to list a few more haha
The entire charlie story line started off pretty simple with him just being friends with the rest of the gang, but then it quickly turned out that he is most likely Franks son, and that kind of makes him (but not really) related to Dee and Dennis.
You can also check out the IASIP reddit it has tons of posts about it all, and if you got anymore questions there are plenty of people who can list off a lot more then I ever could.
what does the left side have to do with anything?
I'm kinda surprised that this many people didn't figure this out when they saw it
I know right.... I find it shocking how many people also contact me to tell me I'm wrong.
maybe its because its sunny, you see the messed up characters like the mcpoyels and you go "oh they're messed up because it's funny this show is supposed to be seinfeld on crack" so people take everything at face value and never suspect any undertones
Ryan Hollinger hey can you Analyze Mac? Or do another video. Amazing insights
matthewktube what about the fact he sleeps in the same bed as frank.
Matt G and how him and frank play nightcrawlers together
jar4142 it funny I never really look at shows looking for deeper meaning I usually just take it a face value. now that my eyes are open I will never see the show the same way.
Dear Ryan Hollinger, this video was very important to me
Thank you!
Ryan Hollinger nice catch. I've never caught the sexy hands line in the nightman song. The hand shame makes sense now.
just makes me love Charlie even more
U have same dumb name as me has
The episode Charlie Work does help us see Charlie succeed in taking charge
Love this vid. This series, while hilarious, is still open for a lot of introspection and evaluation, and I think that sometimes a lot of the reviews and articles I've seen about it delve a little too deep into every detail, more so than I feel was intentional. I loved this and the Dennis analysis because they reflected some things not just that I've picked up on but also because they delved deeper into the characters while still feeling restrained and not just throwing out theories on every single aspect of the series to sound intelligent and deep.
I'm going to go cry and lay down right now
This is great. The core of comedy is ALWAYS an attempt to help us feel better about something awful about existing. Of course this is no different.
if the troll character was supposed to be an insert for his mother, the 'troll toll' is probably uncle jack paying rent to keep staying in his room
Cricket has it worse
Poor Cricket
Does he, though? I think maybe Cricket has just given in at this point and accepted his situation, but Charlie is holding out hope, still going after his ambitions full-force.
Jessica Lieb Cricket is similar to the parents in the book "The glass castle", homeless and enjoying the life as drifters.
Demond Wilson it's only rape to him if they don't give him a sixer
@AdmiralOddSock Charlie is a preemie and has fetal alcohol syndrome.
I think the biggest clue is "Without your sexy hands" which seems pretty specific. His uncle has a running joke where he is overly insecure over his small feminine hands.
It always make me happy to see Charlie genuinely happy
*I've released this early because I have a very important update video coming on Thursday.*

Ryan Hollinger can you please share your music resources for this episode?
Can’t wait!
Charlie talks about Nightman's sexy hands in the song also, and Uncle Jack is always isecure about his hands, he thinks they are small and feminine.
Charlie was, Is and always will be my favourite character in the show, maybe even television
That being said Charlie seems to have a few triggers which seemed like it brought Charlie back to a childish state (like we saw in the first night man episode.)
That being said Charlie’s character development is the deepest out of all of them and isn’t very obvious unless you look a bit deeper.
Charlie Day's Ability to portray Charlie Kelly's own Tragedy is perfection, and I give all praise to him.
I can't Imagine how much time this video took to create. All the specific scenes that are carefully chosen for each topic is very underrated an unappreciated amount of work. Great job!
6:32 ... And Charlie is also Negan.
Negan is a metaphor for government. "Give me half your shit and we'll protect you from the bad guys. If you don't pay us, we become the bad guys"
Its_only_martin I am Negan. . .
That isn't Lucille, it's his rat stick, the gang gave it too him because it was getting too traumatic killing rats with a blunt object
They confirmed this completely in the last season. You nailed it, it's like they saw this video and agreed.
Tiny boy: charley
Day man: mac
Night man: uncle jack
Troll: his mom who was okay with it as long as he payed rent
Dee: Bird
Two years later and your theory's confirmed.
What a beautiful, articulate, and insightful interpretation.
now I'm depressed

what a great dissection. very well researched.
Charlie's my favorite character because he seems like the nicest and least jerky of the gang, and I feel sorry for him because of his tortured past.
please analyze Dennis
I've always said although charlie expresses odd behaviors he is actually the only character who is sane out of the group.
.
Ik this is old but they’ve explained on the new podcast that it’s really not that deep. Basically it’s just them fucking around, doing what they think is funny and trying to make each other laugh. Charlie day even said he improvised the night man song
"and pin me down with your strong hands"
In season 11 Jack has the big hand gloves which he seems to be obsessed with and Charlie is quite persistent that he takes them off
Wooooow! I never thought of the night man being uncle jack. mind is officially blown.
Well done on this video brother! Great analysis of Charlie, who is my favorite character from that show.
John O'neill thought it was obvious
Your tragic perspective really bummed me out, its accurate and really kills the fun vibe.
hehehe
I believe it was this even that is being referenced by the taking of nightman.
charlie day is the most wholesome guy and seeing tears in his eyes makes me DEPRESSED
They are dumbing down society.

fantastic video! Charlie was always my favorite character on the show, and Charlie Day (along with the phenomenal Kaitlin Olsen) deserves many emmy's for his work on the show.
I think I need serious help.
nah dude, i'm right there with you. this is part of why i love charlie
The incredible amount of work you put into this is amazing, thank you for taking the time to make this
"and pin me down with your strong hands"
Well, the play is definitely not about uncle Jack. Sorry dude.
Well, for a child, they might be strong. He didn't say big, though
Have you seen Uncle Jacks gigantic hands at the trial of the century ?
It would probably be something that Jack would've gotten him to say, since he's so obsessed with having big strong hands.
aaron OR maybe the insecurities of uncle jacks hands, he always points out to Charlie "oh tell me I have strong hands" to get off 0_o
aaron it happened when he was a boy so his uncle could have seemed " strong " at the time.
I can totally relate to being disillusioned by power. I served 6 years in the Air Force and as a junior member I had aspirations to retire after 20 years, at 5 and a half years I attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and within a few months I knew I hated being in charge of people. I only wore the 4th stripe for like 6 months.
this honestly made me really sad
3 hours ago I was recommended a soul caliber versus video about Nightman and Dayman custom character battle. Now I was recommended this analysis of that story arc. TH-cam never ceases to amaze me
Revealed by Charlie at the end of "Times Up For The Gang" that Jack never 'got' Charlie, but Charlie was raped by Dee and yet Dee did not see it that way because she falsely presumes only women are victims. I truly believe everyone misinterprets Charlie's play hence why he is annoyed by them constantly making it about abuse, whether it was Dennis and Mac getting weird in the bed or Frank incorrectly saying "boy's hole" instead of "boy's soul". I mean, the gang consistently misinterprets Charlie so the part of the song that seems overtly obviously is about rape is actually more than likely just Charlie's stupid way of writing.
was absolutely stunned by all the deeper meanings! Great job mate
At first I thought "it's not the deep" but now I'm finding this interesting
After watching this, Little Miss Sunshine and RE cinematography I'm sold. Subscribed. Keep it coming, really great analysis of scenes and plots.
I just realised that It's Always Sunny is the greatest TV show ever.
Don’t see to many comments bringing up Night Crawlers or other nighttime games Jack likely started early in the grooming process, which Charlie likely wants to play to remind him of a time before things got worse.
AND THATS WHY IT SAYS HIS SEXY HANDS BECAUSE THERES SO MANY JOKES ABOUT UNCLE JACKS HANDS
"They took your Nightman and you don't belong to them" - I take that as the gang coopting his project, music, and dreams.
There are so many more references to Charlie being abused as a child if you just look for them when watching the show
you just aggressively read way too much into the show and I loved it. Subscribed
