    Gutsy effort there Holic✊.. thanks muito. I've watched the game x 3 now & did wonder wtf for but really wanted to get a good handle where it went south & tbh I keep coming back to the same things.. 1. Jarome Hughes, imo without him we get the W. He kicks, passes, tackles & never stops yapping. Execution was nigh perfect 2. Their bench, it brought more punch & had more impact. 3. Our execution.. (i put lot of this down to their line speed).. our passes were too often marginally off the mark forcing guys to reach, turn, slow down. These need to be on point so we hit hard at speed, don't lose momentum. Finally the officiating. Glad you picked up on the 10m offsides which you don't really see unless you're in the ground. Been happening for yrs, I gave up bitching about it as it got me only abuse & happy to see fans picking up on such cos here's the thing.. games like these are so brutal & don't take alot to swing. To think we were only 8 pts down & still a possibility until their last says something eh & the guys should be f'n proud. Storms repeated infringing that 1st 14mins deserved a bin yet they hounded Sutton relentlessly who was happy to engage yet he got prickly with Tohu early 2nd 1/2 for respectively querying a decision. IDK how Liam in the bunker ascertained Ford stripped the ball because it wasn't & fact is Grant had stomped on his hand just prior in a deliberate dog act while Katoa kept standing up in the scrum to slow us down while Grant didn't pack down at all for their 2 v 2 try from a scrum on 24m. The markers not square penalty at 18m was pedantic & inconsistent & imo the start of all the dubious call bs. Rule states you can't touch a player in the air yet Katoa hits Adam twice in the farcical act of competing/ stripping/ scoring. Not a word, Adam feet were not on terra firma at any stage. The NO TRY Egan obstruction penalty was BS.. he'd played the ball & was nowhere near obstructing while going back 2 plays for the TMM hi shot to rule out Jazz try was farcical. The Monts penalty for a strip could easily have been adjudged a loose carry.. watch again & I go as far to say that if we'd been carrying it probably would've been judged a loose carry. That led to his bin for obstruction. Grant does same thing on 72m & not a squeak. So re why we lost.. zero 50-50's.. to put it politely. Rock on next Saturday.. 2pm Gold Coast. The rebound will be awesome. Chins up till then cos we're coming 💪

      This is depressing to read mate... I think the odds of beating a team like the Storm when the reffing is like this are very low. It is farcical.

      I would never have considered watching a lose again before I starting doing this social media stuff. I'm glad I do now because it shows you, more often than not we are way better than it seems live with all the emotion that comes with it. I think it would be interesting for the captain and coach to have 1hour with all the refs at the beginning, mid season and at the end of the season to share concerns and gain clarity from the refs. They should be able to show video evidence to support issues like the offside from the Storm or other serial issues they have to deal with. It would need to be done with a mediator or something so it didn't get out of hand. It annoys me that they refs are such a protected species. And don't get me wrong, this is not about just going in and bad mouthing them, but more of a chance to gain clarity and share specific concerns that are ignored live.

    • @thewarriorholic
      @thewarriorholic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The think is, a lot of it comes down to luck too. We always seem to lose players when we come up against the storm. We never seem to have a full bench for the whole game... no way to control that shit, but damn it's annoying. Guess its how a lot of fans have felt about their teams playing the ABs over the years... until around 2019 after which we have come back to the pack.

    Things that stood out for me were as follows. Hughes was outstanding and his bombs were always on the mark, creating run chase pressure.
    Ford was unlucky getting penalized for tackling Hughes after a kick. Nothing Ford could do and Hughes milked it. Led to the first try and momentum changed.
    At 20-18, we were looking to get on top and Jazz scored but deemed a double knock on and our scrum. However a Storm penalty a few plays back against TMM. Never seen play called back like that. Usually the offending player is put on report. If we start reviewing every play and going back it will destroy the game like rugby. If we had scored then, the momentum. would have swung towards us. We gave away a few more penalties after that and Storm scored.
    With time running out and needing to score we absolutely needed to get the ball back on 5th play kick however no one chased and put pressure on. Bizarre tactics and maybe no thought out plan in that scenario.
    Just in reply to one comment you made about AFB, at 14-0, AFB was very vocal when the team gathered in a circle so maybe your comments about him not being there, might be slightly off the mark.

    • @thewarriorholic
      @thewarriorholic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have Hughes so much more time to kick than they gave out kickers. That’s the key if you can get away with jumping early it gives the halves way less time. Hughes was running 10-15m before he kicked, made it way easier for them to put pressure on him in the catcher. Our guys had no time at all.
      Not saying AFB isn’t trying, just feel he’s not in the same space he was this time last year. Still delivering more than most props ever would but just expected him to dominate more than he did. Unfair expectations maybe?

    • @nrz197
      @nrz197 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@thewarriorholic You are right about their players running up so quickly. I missed mentioning that. A key point for sure.
      Regarding AFB, I'm sure he could give more but you could say that about almost every one of our players if looking at the stats. Maybe the opposition found a way to limit his runs.

    I mentioned it before but Webby has not got the balance right in the team and if he doesn't fix it then it is unlikely that the Warriors will play finals or most certainly won't beat the top teams in finals football. Webby needs to inject more younger players to lift the energy of the team. Tuapiki, Leiataua, Moala Graham-Taufa, Demitric Sifakula, Tom Ale, Jacob Laban, Leka Halasima, Tanner Stowers-Smith and Zyon Maiu'u.
    At least three of those guys need to be playing every single week. The team needs their energy, lift and x-factor. No ifs or buts. These old heads don't have it to win consistently every week.
    One immediate change I would make is Tuaupiki to Fullback and CNK to 6. It brings speed from the back and a more impactful CNK in the halves hitting the line regularly. You have to make peace that one of SJ or TMM has to go. Great coaches will make that call to win games and win comps.

    • @thewarriorholic
      @thewarriorholic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately Zyon and Tanner are injured. Leka won’t get his debut until next year IMO. I’d say Jacob comes in this week for Capewell, probably Ale too with Jackson back on an edge.
      I’d give Sifakula a couple more games in cup get his fitness up then bring him into the bench. I’d say he could have the biggest impact out of all the young fellas.
      I don’t mind the idea of bringing Taine in. Maybe even play CNK at center RTS on the wing and Taine at the back. Need his speed. But not sure how they will go with the back.

But Like I've said, I don't claim to have the footy iq or the insight into the overall game plan to say with absolute confidence that it was the wrong call. There were a number of call I share refer to as odd...in this game. Like Walker at center...not sure why that happened.

    Great review again bro, Im glad you got a review out even after a loss.
    I know we have to say the "better team" won, and fair play to the storm they capitalized off the back of our mistakes, but if those calls weren't as bad as they were I honestly think we would've won. I think we were the better team for most of the game.
    The worst call to me was when we were disallowed a try - Fair enough, but to penalize us two or three tackles earlier to TMM's "head high", when TMM got low for the tackle and hit the guy straight on the chest WTF LOL It was the worst officiating I've ever seen personally and imo it borderlined on cheating. And Storm were cheating is really subtle ways (fair play to them, they only do what they get away with) they're such a good side they don't need help. Just call the games down the middle is all we ask.
    In saying that, there was some massive positives imo. I can tell you 100% im still mad proud of the boys effort, even though we lost. I reckon they were trying their guts out right up until the final whistle. We go again next week 🔥🔥

      Yeah we have been standing deep, it’s one way to try and deal with a rushing or in the Storms case an off side D line. The ABs use that at times. I agree we do tend to push things when we’re chasing a game. I feel like we lack 1-2 genuine game breakers with genuine speed who can create tries from 50m out. I just don't think SJ and TMM are a great match, both 7's really as someone else pointed out. Liking the backrow combo of Barnett/Niukore, Walker playing better than Tohu, missing Metcalf's speed, and as you point out, I think we need a speed threat out wide to be a real contender (as seen by our wingers chasing Meaney looked pedestrian). Hard to do a review after what was an extremely disappointing game bro but to be real it showed where we are really at.
    With the hype and big crowd etc Storm treated this game as a final playing a level above where they have been over last month or so.
    Your obviously getting into the close circle around Warriors that some podcasters are in so I hope it doesn't effect your judgement / critique too much.
    First half told it all for me.Up by 14 with Storm in some trouble then Storm got in our red zone three times for three tries which is simply unacceptable then the Katoa break to put Meaney in was a killer blow.After that the second half was always going to be a bridge too far for us no matter the injuries and sin bins or the refs odd calls.
    Obviously TMM was playing 7 with SJ at 6.I don't "get" playing two halfbacks as the balance seldom works and should be a last resort thing.Like you say Webster knows far more than us but no matter I would love to see SJ /CHT as our halves combo until Metcalf returns.I am worried if we stay with TMM / SJ combo we will miss the finals.
    Bellyache knows all the refs intricacies etc.He knows with Sutton they can get away with far more than other refs so uses that to his advantage = intelligent coaching.
    Seeing Katoa who will be an elite backrower for a decade in Storm colors still hurts but it is what it is thanks to Nathan Brown.
    There is a large log jam forming for last three or four spots in finals so we need to fight hard every game for the two comp points or we miss the finals.

      Don’t worry brother, I’m my own man so I’m never going to be changing my approach because I have connected with a few players.
      I always believe in pretty balanced in my views and I never make anything personal so I’d be disappointed if they even took offense to my content… but who knows in this world.
      Yeah it was definitely disappointing but it does bring us back to the reality we are still 2-3 players from being a genuine contender. I think we can still beat any team on our day, but right now we need to deliver at 105% to beat the big teams, they can beat us playing at 90-95% because they have X factor that can turn a game.
      Interesting how the drums keep hearing about Dylan Brown coming to the Warriors. I have heard it’s BS but who knows?

      @@thewarriorholic Dylan Brown -really?
      He is a five eight and when he has had to play Halfback with Moses out he has looked lost-He will cost huge $ as well .
      Mets at 7 Brown at 6 maybe - but I doubt it
      i see Capewell has made Origin -I would LOVE Slater who has a League IQ few possess to really tell what he sees in Capewell these days not his past but right now.

      @@jackohere1878 yeah I’m curious to see what Capewell delivers in Origin and hope it sparks him to deliver for us.
      It does seem odd we would be looking at Brown who’s a 6 when we have a couple of good one now.. but I don’t really believe the story

    You have persuaded me to watch the game again mate... but your point about Storm being offside every play. Why the hell are they allowed to get away with it? They're cheating every POTB. Or at least, why don't we copy them to even it out if the ref is going to look the other way? Gordon Tallis said on NRL 360 the other day that players know what they can get away with for certain refs, so clearly with Grant Atkins it's being offside. But why don't we do it too? I think at core the Storm is a great team, but they have an extra layer of gamesmanship/cheating wrapped around their tactics/strategy, which makes them a grub team if I'm honest. (Not talking about Hughes diving - SJ has done that, or even milking, we do that too - but blatant cheating or lying in the ruck which they're also known for...it ruins the game).

      The thing is if you do it as much as they do, they know the refs simply won’t ping them every time.
      It’s a calculation they make, and they push the limit as far as they can.
      Unfortunately they have been doing it so long the refs have just grown accustomed to it and don’t notice it… whereas for teams like us it stands out like dogs balls and they ping straight away.
      To be honest, this was the first time I’ve seen them live and the offside is way more noticeable than on tv.
      The biggest impact game on the run meters for our outside backs they were so far down on run meters it was crazy. And the pressure on our kickers vs how much time Hughes had before he had to kick.
      They are seriously fit too, there line speed is insane

    Happy with the performance, disappointed but i seen positive signs from the team. I also noticed the kiwi players who play for aussie teams always play well when they come to mt smart, interesting. Thanks for the video mate
