God's breathed words already tell the unsaved how to be saved and born again believers everything we need for life and Holiness, beginning with hearing the Gospel of our salvation for faith, and justification and regeneration upon believing in Jesus Christ, then learning about all else that obtains under Grace. This is found in the New Testament Epistles specifically addressing the Body of Christ under grace not law.
Also, the Bible, all Bibles that teach the doctrines found in the NKJV, Niv, Esv, Lsb, Nasb, Csb, modern KJV, 1611 KJV, Nrsv, and other like Bibles, are fine ones as explained by the translators of the 1611 KJV in their letter to the reader, which, for some strange reason, has been removed from modern KJV's.
All fine translations also, refute false teachings like those of Roman Catholicism, Calvinism's 9 points-not just 5 called TULIP, Arminianism, etc. and cults like Seventh day Adventism, Jehovah's witnesses, Mormonism, etc.
We are truly blessed with a plethora of fine English translations.
Praise to God for the treasure trove of Greek New Testament Manuscripts, may the Lord Jesus Christ reveal even more mss., especially papyrus mss.

The main differences are that streaming audio uses less data and you can lock your screen while it continues to play (without ads) and it’ll pick up where you left off if you pause it. It’s pretty useful.

Excellent job, brother. You have taken a complex issue and made it as understandable as any presentation I've seen. I have preached from the NKJV myself for over 35 years now, and I also simply explain significant differences in the texts when they arise. I have found that this approach has actually helped to strengthen my congregation's trust in God's word.

Excellent presentation. One reason my favorite modern translation, while based on the Textus Receptus, is the NKJV, because it tells me the Majority Text reading, as well as other readings. I don't disparage the Critical Text, and I love translations based on the Textus Receptus, and not just the KJV, but the Tyndale, Coverdale, and Geneva Bible translations. I can have my cake and eat it, too, so to speak.
I have not gone to a Majority Text translation per se because the NKJV apparatus does it for me, but I have the ESV and NASB 77, and hope to own a Legacy Standard Bible soon.
Thanks so much for this video. The Majority Text view does it for me.

One of the reasons I like the NKJV as my ‘foundation’ text.
I personally love the ESV, and it’s the translation my church uses.
The NKJV notes really help here, you get informed about it all.

I use the NKJV for my personal study and devotion as well. I love that it gives me all the textual variants so it's basically like having a TR with all of the CT and majority text variants.
I like the ESV too. But whenever I'm reading it I find that I really miss the italicized supplied words.

    • @sbs8331

The Berean Standard Bible does the same from a CT perspective and, like the NKJV, largely avoids subjectivity but just notes the variant readings.

Awesome video, very useful info. I have over the years come to the Majority Text preferred view of manuscript families. This is one of, but not the only reasons, that I landed on the NKJV translation as my main. While I do enjoy others, I feel as though the NKJV is as close to an English Majority Text translation as we have in print, and the footnotes are only second to the NET imo, noting major variants across manuscript traditions. Unchanging/not updated, classic sound with modern English, and multiple editions from Thomas Nelson, it's a great all around translation. Very interesting video!

  • @salvadaXgracia
    @salvadaXgracia ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thanks for this video! Very interesting thoughts. I usually hear that CT scholars are trying to figure out the why behind certain variants like did they "fix" a hard reading or was it an easy mistake to make or did they import marginal notes that were not part of Scripture or leave out marginal notes that were supposed to be in the text. I thought the geographical majority and the map of the journeys of Paul to be particularly compelling arguments for the MT.
I would also love to see a mainstream Bible based translation based on the Septuagint, as the Bible that Jesus and the Apostles quoted from (or the earlier Hebrew behind it).
    God bless!

Scholars use unsound subjective criteria when deciding which "reading" is best. The #1 reason for trusting the critical apparatus of the Majority Text is its objective nature. Doctor Everhard's well-reasoned argument for the Majority is compelling.

Very straightforward presentation of the Majority text. I’ve been trying to find a purely factual source of information in a SEA of KJVO and anti-KJVO people. No I do not believe that the KJV is the only translation. I just cannot get behind that. What I can get behind is the Majority Text position (which I’ve just learned about through this video) because it appears to be a very thorough treatment of our manuscripts. This position check out to me.

I recently came across a video about a version called "The Sovereign Creator Has Spoken"; this is technically a Majority Text version, but it's based on KJVO-style logic - since Family 35 or Kr manuscripts are the most consistent, an NT based only on those manuscripts, rather than on the TR or some harmony of all Byzantine text manuscripts best exemplifies the doctrine of God's preservation of His Word.

My main critique is that just because something is the majority doesn’t necessarily make it right; we can look at the current political situation in the US to know that that is true.
Let’s take the long ending of Mark for example. I wouldn’t’ call myself a critical text advocate, but we’ll put me in that camp. Let’s say we found the original gospel of Mark that he wrote with his own hand, and we could know that for certain, and it contained the long ending of the gospel of Mark. My position on the long ending of Mark would change instantly. But by contrast, if the reverse were to occur, and the original that we discovered was found to not contain the long ending, the majority text position and the textus receptus positions would not change. That’s a huge problem.

From what I can understand, the "The Orthodox New Testament" published by Holy Apostles Convent is pretty much a Majority Text translation. It's the KJV modified to conform to the Constantinople edition of the Greek text, which is pretty much Majority Text.

I don’t know much about this stuff, but the arguments from the majority text sound convincing. To me, it makes sense if most manuscripts contain the verse then it’s probably the correct one. Is there any books or other resources for me to learn more for a beginner? Also, I can’t read Hebrew or Greek. God Bless! Appreciate the videos

Do you still feel this way? I can’t help but notice that you use the ESV a good bit these days. I’m not really sure where I land on this one yet.

Could you produce this list as a PDF or a for sale booklet?

I'm a majority text advocate and it's these type of arguments that lead me to that position. Hence, I read and study from the NKJV (closest popular translation to the Majority text).

NKJV is still Textus Receptus, but I believe it shows Majority Text and Critical Text readings in the footnotes. The only translation I know that could be considered majority text is the Eastern Orthodox Bible (New Testament only), which is translated from the Patriarchal Text of 1904 that used the Byzantine Text-Type.

You are correct. I will point out however that the Majority text differences are far far fewer in the NKJV than the Bibles that use the critical text thus making the NKJV closer to the Majority than the others.

In my way of thinking the Majority Text IS the received text. As we received it from God!!

Pastor, How much, then, percentage wise, is the ESV aligned with Majority text? Upper 90's?

What do you think about the legacy standard Bible, I just started using that as my primary translation?

I'm sure he'd like it. But as hes said, he's an advocate for the textus receptus/MT family.
He uses translations such as Esv and others I'm sure. So he isn't against them. He also believes they are good translations. But would prefer the KJV family of scripture.
