Yes I have read his book I loved it when he told about first time seeing a white man he thought he had seen a ghost I to play guitar and lots of chucks music by myself wish I could play with you and your band ( if you have one ) I also love Elvis and his song called mystery train, post me back when you get time God bless.
Just a side note Chuck Berry didn't start playing Guitar seriously tell his mid-20s. One of my number one influences I started later myself and I'm quite proud of my lead skill at this point. Just keep practicing folks peace and love
Great lesson. The way I see it, Chuck Berry is not only "The Father of Rock and Roll," but The King, too. He wrote the songs, created the characters, and was the genre's first guitar hero . . . he did it all. I don't own the book, but I've checked it out of my local library and read it cover-to-cover a couple of times. I've also dug the documentary he did with Keith Richards a few times, too. Both Hogan and Berry were influenced (as were so many) by Charlie Christian. Thanks, Damian!
I love the documentary "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll". I must have watched it a thousand times over & over back in the day lol. I need to purchase the blu-ray collector's edition that came out last year. Cheers DAMIAN
I bought my first Chuck Berry LP in 1964 when I was 12. The LP was "ST. Louis To Liverpool" and it had a couple tracks on it that were a little uncharacteristic of him. The song "You Two" is somewhat like rhythm changes and his chord work is very cool and on "Night Beat" he uses a killer jazzy neck pickup tone, it's a jazzy sounding blues. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you Damian! Your short lessons are great, especially this one👍 And I appreciate the positive upbeat messages that you put in the end of your videos, a very nice touch! Peace ☮️
One of the first guitar lessons I ever took was trying to learn Chuck's "Too Much Monkey Business." Never felt I quite got it, so this lesson has me pumped-- thanks a million for all you do, including the much appreciate pep talk!! 👍😊
I have the book, too. I bought a first edition in a used book shop over a decade ago. Big fan of Chuck Berry--hearing him was one of the first times I can remember thinking: "playing guitar is cool--I want to do that."
Damian, this was as good as it gets. I've listened to countless jaw-dropping players over the years but Chuck Berry still amazes me. Berry's various 10-12 song greatest hits collections from Chess have always been pure gold to my ears. Yeah, I'd love to have one of those new Gibson Chuck Berry Blonde 350's... Unfortunately, I can think of about 10,000 reasons I'll never have one. 💸💸💸💸💸🥺💸💸💸💸💸 Great video, as always! You really captured Chuck Berry's vibe!
Thank you for watching Paul. I'd love to own that guitar as well. It's a beauty for sure. But's it's certainly does have a hefty price tag on it. Keep on Rockin' buddy DAMIAN
What can I say Damien- fantastic lesson with great bio on Chuck Berry! It really is amazing when you think of the influence these cats had on what is done today in so many different ways on the guitar!
Yeah got that same book and also saw him at the Lyceum back when they had gigs there. The movie Hail hail Rock n Roll was very interesting too. Worth a watch. Keep em coming Damian!
I'm looking forward to hearing back from you and plug up to something, so you can hear my bass riffs. I believe I was the first bassist to pop and slap to hard core music. Korn was out yet. We opened up the 3 bands and toured behind them. I'll fill you in on more details. If you're interested. Jeremy loved The Misfits. I had a few chances to go play with different bands. I was to shy to sing at that time, but if we stayed together and Jeremy didn't OD. I would have started singing. Our manager wouldn't let us record until after we toured for two more big or bigger bands. As you can see we had a pretty big following. Thanks and get back to me.
Got the book when it came out, then I got the poster from the movie Hail Hail Rock $ Roll as soon as it quit showing in the movie theater Win Win Win... Love your channel BMX for life
Many thanks for this awesome lesson. Your tone is incredible, love those P-90 pickups. Have you ever heard Earl Hooker before? He also used a lot of double-stops in his soloing, kinda like Chuck here with this lesson. If you haven't heard Earl before, I highly recommend him, you would probably love him.
Hey Damien, I love your lessons! Unfortunately I do not own a copy of Chuck's autobiography anymore as it got lost (or perhaps stolen)in one of my many moves over the years but I have read it many times. I agree that it's a great book and Chuck is one of, if not my favorite guitarists ever.
Thanks for watching CC. Much appreciated. Jim Heath's a great player. I've played a bunch of shows with "The Reverend Horton Heat" back in the late 90s & early 2000s. Those were some fun shows to play. I'll put in my request book to do a lesson on the Jim Heath Rockabilly style. :) Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
@Damian Bacci also, you’re right I should’ve called out Jim‘s name instead of the bands name, I’ve actually got his signature model Gretsch guitar and I’m a big big fan 😉🤠
I was wondering how you were going to downhill anything in Florida. We're kinda sparse on hills here. Also been a lifelong chuck fan. His music is just so much fun.
You're right, his music is a lot of fun to play. Chuck's playing is timeless. R.I.P. Chuck The hill is called Sugarloaf Mountain. It's in Clermont. I traveled about 2 hours to get there from my home. The ride down that hill was a wild ride for sure lol. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Hi Damian! Greetings from Germany and thanks a lot for your fantastic work here! You helped me out so many times. I will visit your Website to take a look and maybe to give you a support! Thank you and stay healthy
Hi Damian , I have this question about the tabs and you're playing at the beginning of the video. Do you play an extra note that isn't in the tabs?, around 4:25. In the tabs you slide to the 5th fret B string and play it twice in totall, but it seems you first play the 5th fret B string regular, then slide it up to the 5th fret, play it another time regular.( at the beginning of the video that is without the tabs)( the staccato part I mean, with the triplets)) I even slowed your video down to 25 percent of the normal speed. I can play it in time with your tabs, but not in sync at the start of the video. Can't put my finger on it, difficult to describe.Especilly when your first language is not English. But great video as usual
Thank you Punkus Rockus. The guitar came with a set of P90s, but I switched those out and replaced them with a pair of Lindy Fralin P90s. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
