  • A quick look at this 50 year old kit as I couldn't find another in box review on TH-cam. It's a lovely old kit, and the only one out there if you want a 1/72 B-47. Yes, there's Frog and others, but they're all based on this kit.

My dad's first job at Boeing Wichita was working on the B-47 assembly line. He started at Boeing in 1947 and retired in 1980. Sadly, he is no longer with us. I have this kit, I will build it at some point in his honor. Thanks for the video.

My great grandpa used to work on the B-47 in the Wichita plant an right after he got out of WW2 then Boeing moved him to Seattle to work on the B-52, sadly he passed 6 years ago.

My dream at one time, was to park one of these , with the Orenda Iroqouis engine bolted on the fuselage next to a scale CF-105 Avro Arrow, as it was used for testing, in Canadian colors Dane

Oh wow, I just love old kits. They have so much character! This one has an enormous wingspan! Great review, thank you! - Trevor

Working on my 55 year old Vintage Minicraft/Hasagawa B-47E Bomber as I type. This is a nice kit for its age!

Hi, Just got 1 of these kits, different box art though. Have you made a video of building it? The Japanese English is amusing!

This kit is in my stash, but it is a reissue from 2004.
Everything is pretty much the same, even the instructions booklet with the typo 'right yellow'.
Only thing that changed in the instructions is the list with other kits available, this is a blanked out box now.
The only thing which is an improvement is the decal sheet suplied with my kit, it is better quality and more extensive, but not yet complete as I think there must be much more small stenciling on the real aircraft, so aftermarket decals are needed anyway.
I have the True Details wheelset for it which is really recomended, as they are far better detailed, with brake detail and threaded and weighted tires.
There is a cockpit out from True details, but I haven't found this yet.
Adding those aftermarket parts and doing some scratchbuilding in the wheelbays should make a nice model.
I would't bother with the bomb bay to much and make it closed.
Rescribing is a must I think to be right.
Altough the raised rivets look nice they aren't all the rivets which are there, only the edges of the panels have rivets on the model while on the real aircraft there are rows of rivets in between, also they are not to obvious and look flush or slightly recessed to me.
Also, while the panel lines and details vissible on the fuselage of the model seem to be in the right places it is not all the detail, so a lot can be added with scribing and some scratchbuilding, like round things on the rear fuselage which are mounting points for the JATO bottles?
But all in all it was a very good kit for its time, and still a good starting point for a model now, as the shape looks correct.

I do love some old kits - but have had a nightmare with some older Revell 1/32 kits - poor fit and raised panel lines that have made me learn how to re-do with stretched sprue -
