Now I want a Ridley Origin Fan Fic where we learn that he was cruelly teased by a guy name Jesse and told he was nothing until the British Councillor told him he could be whatever he wanted to be.
eastwing329 ridley is gonna be an MMA fighter now. Ridley does as ridley pleases.
The problem here is that Jesse doesn't see the giant purple pterodactyl as a sentient being looking for employment and earning a living, he sees it as a mindless monster. now if the pterodactyl started wearing clothes, talked, used weapons it would be obvious but all he does is roar and fly. I can see why Jesse thinks he's a monster.

Screw it; if bird people can raise a decently well-adjusted superhuman, pterodactyls can be pirates.

Jesse, pirates aren't meant to have charm. You are basing your interpretation of a pirate on modern culture. Pirates, first and foremost, are meant to be threatening. Just look at Edward Teach (Blackbeard) in real life. He really did shot one of his crewmembers sometimes just to show how ruthless he is. In that regard, Ridley is a perfect pirate. In fact Nintendo has been pretty accurate on pirates in real life regard.
There is nothing more charming than a crew of murderous disease ridden rapists.

scrumpmonkey Pure fear? In which case the story is sadder, as such potential was lost. There aren't that many beings of pure fear anymore, most are also 20% sorrow or pain, especially not in pterodactyl form.

Maybe it was the opposite of Samus's back story: it was Samus who killed Ridley parents instead of the other way around and Samus just made up that story to get others to sympathize with her cause of hunting down and destroying the space pirates.

What Jesse isn't getting is that Ripely is a SENTIENT Pterodactyl from a planet of sentient pterodactyls and requires of source of income.
You know...I kind of want a Ridley game now. The story could be how Ridley went from where he started out to being the leader of the Space Pirates. You slowly unlock all of Ridley's moves, get cool gear he can add to his arsenal, and all the while you are just being a Space Pirate that takes whatever you want, all the while hunting down all your major rivals and consolidating your power as the biggest, baddest pirate there is. Hell, you could even have a branching story path that could lead to Ridley being not so bad and possibly even adopting Samus. THAT...could be REALLY cool.
Pirates don't need charm, they need a greed for whatever booty they can get their grubby little paws on...that or a case of insanity

I kinda get both perspectives. Being a pirate implies you might get prosecuted for your crimes. But when you're a giant space pterodactyl who's been brought back to life multiple times you can call yourself whatever you damn well please

I think Ridley has something like human level intelligence, he's just a murderous psychopath. So he's the Space Pirates muscle. Also he make purple fuckin' evil and thats pretty badass.

Jesse, not all pirates are charming. Quite a few of them were/are just downright nasty. The latter category is the one Ridley fits into.

Bruh, Pirates were no better than ugly ass terrodactols when Pirates had Scurvy and hardly bathed.
They were just abunch of criminals on a dream of stealing and would have mutiny if they felt like they weren't getting what they wanted. Like if you were the Captain, they would kill you if you weren't intimidating enough and didn't give what they wanted (could have been 100% of the profit if they felt like it), they'd murder you.
So honestly Terrodactols being Space Pirates are probably the closest thing to Alien Pirates in Space.

That makes even less sense. The Space Pirate primary race (since they're made up of more than one race) is a bunch of bug people with crab claws. Their leaders are a Godzilla monster who shoots spikes out of its stomach and a space dragon.
