The eldest daughter was very insightful of how hard it must have been for her mum to do it. She was also appreciative and relieved to have a clean space. Very mature girl

She spent the next 10 years in the high dependency ward at Fitzory Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
No, I did not know this. I'm in the U.S. Thank you for letting me know. Sad situation. I'm a retired psychiatric RN so it's interesting to see her behavior with Adam and then hear what happened afterward. Since I'm told by another commenter it was filmed 15 years ago, I hope she and her family are on the road to recovery.

Agree. And having the children must have made it so difficult to keep up with housework too. It’s a lot of work to be the primary parent. She said she had a clutter problem before the divorce too so it was only amplified by that huge change in her life. She was probably very depressed and unmotivated to clean. She cared more about spending time with her girls bc that’s probably what gave her joy.
Shocked that Adam doesn't recycle those plastic cups and bottles. Nice outcome at Laura's! The kids needed that cleanup and Laura too.

@@happydays3678 From what I’ve heard, these are people who put things away when they use them. I know nothing about it myself. I’m the one who throws everything into a laundry basket, cleans the surface, then puts it back on the table.
Because I need the laundry basket for..laundry.

I wish he could come pay my home a visit, I suffer a debilitating condition called fibromyalgia, and really started to suffer from initially chronic back pain about 7 years ago after having my youngest son then went through some really hard times that effected me so much emotionally, and yes my home just got more and more disorganised, now with my condition it's like mission impossible, I can only do so much at a time, the more I do the more pain I will suffer the next few days and then the work I've done you wouldn't even know I've done it because it's a mess again, but he definitely is right my home being disorganised does effect how my mind thinks and feels
I have M.E and Fibro and understand completely what you are going through! Before I got the flu that caused it I had run the women's 10k! I have a good day and try to get everything done and then I'm bed ridden for days! I've learned to pace myself - my nan used to watch tv and every time an advert came on she did one small thing then sat back down - it works for me! Don't be ashamed to ask for help! My friend comes and we chat, drink coffee and sort everything out! I also rest completely when my body tells me to. Gabapentin has been a life saver for me and I'm also on anti depressants - they calm my mind and help to relax my body! Gentle hugs x

So wheres her social worker? Clutter cant be helped if no space ..but theres no call for having so much filth around children, she said it herself, more to life than cleaning NASTY!
I think they both got something out of this. I am more like Lara myself, as I have too much stuff and don't do a lot of cleaning when I don't use the areas in question, however I am very clean when it comes to the kitchen and where I clean myself and sleep. Sometimes some areas just get overwhelming and I totally agree with her way of seeing things when it comes to spending more time with the kids. People can be overly obsessive. Adam did end up taking away something without realising it when he made his comment - he slowed down, paced himself at home and does a little less. People shouldn't feel their homes have to be pristine. No-one expects that of anyone. I liked the personalities of both people in this one. Sometimes that is not the case when people are from opposing viewpoints in life.
I would love to help people who are struggling to declutter and clean.

I wonder if the producers tell all of the “organized/clean” people to always take a break and step outside so that they can get a mini aside interview for the storyline?
Or if by and large the “clean” people in the meet-up situations at the “filthy” person’s home all genuinely need a minute away and the producers just use that as a moment to ask a few questions.
The smell of soy sauce making him sick to his stomach just seems a little unbelievable (soy sauce is just a food smell, not a bad smell) so I wonder if it was scripted?
Or if the lady being super casual about the bottle dropping and shattering that actually triggered emotions and his anxiety to where he needed to step away.
If you ask me him genuinely being too freaked and needing a break would have been when they found the dead mice in the cooking and eating space.
The way it’s edited/portrayed he needed a break when soy sauce spilled but didn’t run away when they found the dead mice??? Okay…
If it is years old, which lots of the food was... it would stink, but the mouse looked dehydrated, it would've had much of a smell.

Really wonder about her history. Like the childhood she experienced cause she seems completely blind to the filth. The things she says sound more like excuses she's created for anyone else, but she really acts detached from it all. It seems like she reached out for the sake of her kids so that's positive

I had someone do this to my house. Only I didn't consent to it and my house wasn't even close to being dirty. I just wanted someone to mop the floors and clean the shower and they did what this guy did 😅
I bet his teeth drive him crazy. I bet her teeth drive him crazy. He spends so much time cleaning and straightening stuff in his home and then he goes to the mirror and sees how his teeth aren't straight and will not be easy to straighten and then he comes to such a mess of a house and this lady has beautiful, straight, perfect rows of ivory in her mouth.

My opinion… the cleaning guy had a hard childhood, his caregiver didn’t use free dental services when he was a child so he’s stuck with grotty teeth, clearly had issues in his own home growing up so needs to have control and not much around him. Poor lad.

I wonder what the bedrooms are like. If you're blessed with having children, please keep your house clean and tidy . That is the very least every child deserves. If you can't or won't do that, then don't have children . No child or animal asks to be born, and none wants to be brought up in filth. It's always the children and animals that I feel so sorry for.
