Samantha- viewer's might like to know that the mesh at 1:35 is metal lath mesh or stucco netting. Some of it is expanded metal and that "can" be very sharp. Welded metal mesh is also galvanized but only sharp at cut or broken link in the mesh. It's called ""hardware cloth." And you did mention that. The expanded steel "IS" a little stronger and will hold more weight. After all, it is intended to hold stucco to the wall! I really think this harvest, presort and harvest again is fantastic! 💚💚

We first run them through a harvester trommell. We then take the worms that come out the end with material that landed in our pan with the worms and put on the table and use the process I just showed in the video. When we are ready to ship we will rerun the worms that we just harvested back through the trommell. We then have clean worms to weigh up and sell.
@@MemesWorms I don't need to do a hundred pounds a day nor am I a commercial operation. That said, I've been in R&D and prototyping for several years. Most of the rotary trommels I have seen to separated casting and worms from reject do it all in one pass. They have a large funnel shaped cone on the exit where, after the castings have fallen through the mesh, the worms and unfinished materials exit onto the cone. The debris tends to slide or roll off before the worms completing separation. Do you utilize a cone on your rotary trommel?

Thats a great idea to use light, a screen, and then a bottom tray with castings. Ill have to build one of those. Have you ever looked into the brockwood worm shifter? I think Im going to build one of those rather than a trommel since itd be easier to construct for what I have. I just need to get some parts from a combine to use to shake the table. Did you build or buy a trommel?
I have the brockwood and hope to sell it soon! It works great for small batches of casting and if you are using buckets to grow worms in like in their video but no so much for commercial worm farming or if you are growing in bigger bins. Just my opinion. I love the trommel makes my life a whole lot easier.
Couple of days ago I ordered some mesh to come up with a frame screen like yours😄 Are those the worms from the bins on the wall that you grow out? Girl you are one of the hardest working people I’ve seen.
Thanks V. These worms were from our windrows. It's the material that came out of the harvester with overs. It is the fastest way I have found to get a lot of worms cleaned and harvested in a day.

This is how I get worms to migrate out of wet castings. Good to see im not a nut doing it this way. Also helps dry castings out a little.

That leftover bedding seems really rough. What exactly do you use for bedding? Looks like leaves and twigs right off the ground. Thank you.
These beds were outside and yes leaves and twigs do fall on the windrows.
My worms love leaves! I add about 1/3 crushed leaves as bedding and find little skeletons of them if they aren’t crushed well enough!

For me they are just to much to handle. You have to keep the Temps above 55. Great composters though.
