Awesome video as always As far as micro spikes go for snow and ice I too also use ktulla for the past I don't know exactly 13 years and they're still going strong but then again I don't use them as much as you have on your past two through hikes mine are just for light duty so they lasted a whole lot longer
Tnx for all the videos man they are really helpfull! Will you be doing special video on resupply? I think many future hikers would benifit from that! Darko
Awesome look at the gear! You mentioned you wore the Fleece the entire time through the Sierras before swapping them in Oregon, do you think that would've also wore the Alpha if you had that for the Sierras instead? Or do they have different temp ratings with the alpha not being as warm? Glad to hear you didn't need the puffy. Point noted about the gaiters and the resulting chewing through socks. I don't understand why anybody would ever hike without them. I even use the foot-tall ones rather than the ones that only wrap around your ankle. I have a hat similar to that one, except mine's discontinued love the mesh sides on it and the flexible brim. Glad to see a replacement if I do need one. Other than that, glad to hear your thought process about the gear choices you made. Everyone has different styles and tastes.
I think microgrid fleece is good down to about 30 before you need another layer. Alpha direct is good to about 45 by itself. Think of it as midweight and lightweight layers.
Loved following you along the trail. Unbelievably I was in a queue for fish and chips in Wales and met a guy who did the PCT finishing a month ago. Didn’t get his name but I doubt there were many Welsh guys on the trail 😂
Loved following your hike and really appreciate the post-hike reviews and advice. Question: what would be your personal opinion on having an alpha direct mid-layer + puffy jacket in Sierra (instead of the heavier Lightheart fleece + puffy that you carried)? Since you didn’t use your puffy jacket much, I’m thinking I might be okay with a lighter Alpha direct top paired with a puffy. Thx for your perspective.
Thanks for the update. While watching your PTC hike I noticed that it didn't rain much (fire was a different story). I am currently watching your AT hike and it looked like it rained a lot the year you hiked the AT. What gear did you use on both the PCT and AT that will continue to stay in your kit for future hikes.
I might have missed it, did you switch out your Alpha Direct Fleece and the Light Heart Gear Hoodie? Or did you keep both during the Sierras, thanks in advance for your response.
What type of gaiters did you use with the Topo’s. How did they connect to the shoe. The Topo gaiters get horrible reviews and are hard to find. Thanks! I watched every video of yours for the PCT and really enjoyed them…
Yes and the OR Echo is one of the most popular hoodies out there but I found it too hot since they switched over to recycled fabrics in 2021. I used the Echo short from OR on my 2019 AT thru hike and found it perfect when it was made out of polyester.
I hammock and tent camp. Are you talking more comfort or just not being able to sleep? For Comfort, take the weight penalty for a wide pad. I have a regular mummy xlite and a rectangular reg/wide tensor. The tensor is so much more comfortable due to the size. I also like hiking with a thick inflatable pillow like the S2S pillows. If you’re struggling with going to sleep, I pack sleep clothes(my only luxury item) which helps me get comfortable. Sometimes I’ll play green noise or podcast on my phone to help to get to sleep. It helps get my mind off the frustration of “go to sleep already”
@@blakeadkins138 I'm a five day section hiker with a busy job and 5 children. I feel like I don't get into the rhythm of thru hiking just yet which may help with sleeping outside. I can handle 25 mile days yet those don't knock me out when I hit the pad. I do movies, podcasts etc yet still find myself awake more than usual. I just hiked a bunch of the Hayduke by Canyonlands and found the nights super quiet and I kept waking up. I take melatonin which helps. I'm not insomnia ridden yet feel like I my quality isn't there
I glued a piece of velcro on the back of the shoe and just used Dirty Girl gaiters which I've been using for years. Topo makes their own gaiter but when I tried it on in the store I found it very cumbersome
@@FrozensAdventures That is the problem that I have with New Balance. My feet and knees used to have problems. I would go through several pairs of expensive New Balance shoes until I found ones that would work. The next time that I would go to buy shoes New Balance would have discontinued them with no replacement. Thanks to you, I am now wearing Altra shoes and loving them!
Hey Jason, fellow PA hiker here, actually about 60 miles to the north. Can we exchange information? I have a few questions and would love to pick your brain. Been following you since you hiked the Kinzua area, in fact I used the videos to plan my hike from the Tracy Ridge Campground to Nelse run via the NCT.
I'd wait until you know whether you'll need one or not. I hiked the PCT in 2018 and arrived at Kennedy Meadows South June 9 and headed out the 10th. I didn't carry nor need an ice axe. I had Katoola Microspikes, like Frozen, but only used them twice and could have got by without them. I hope you have a great hike next year.

Good to see you on video again! I switched to Topo Mountain Racers recently. Love them!
Any plans to hike the continental divide trail
This looks like a pretty awesome trail!
Thanks, Frozen! I love those lighthearted hear hoodies.

I used dirty girl gaiters. Just glue a piece of velcro on the back and hook into the lace.
Not using gaiters on the PCT seems like the strangest thing to me compared to like the AT.
Great Job Jason!! Did you waterproof your Dance Pants like on the AT?
I did not. In total it rained about 2 hours the entire thru hike.
@@FrozensAdventures Thanks boss!! 3 and a half months and i will be on the AT!!
Question: How was the food from Packit Gourmet? Was it better than Mnt House Beef Stroganoff?
Yea Packit Gourmet is much better! It's dehydrated and not freeze dried.
Do you have a Lighterpack or PackWizard list?
What kind of weight?
Literally the first link in the video description 😂
Have you tried the sun hoodie from Outdoor Research? Wondering how it compares to the REI version. Good to see a video from you again!

Would love to know your tips for a good nights sleep in the tent. I struggle with the quiet nights as I typically sleep with a fan on.
I’m with you man

New Balance does not have the Accelerate shorts. The customer care lady could not tell me if New Balance will be selling those shorts any longer.
Man every time I find a great piece of clothing they stop making it :(

Your tent has no floor? I almost bought a Black Diamond without, but wasn't sure!
My Plex solo has a floor.
Would your shoes typically dry overnight?
Yes out west they were rarely wet.
What up dude.
Great video
Yay, I'm not late this time, I made it in 26 seconds 😊
26 seconds! 👍
Once again great video 👍

Hey there! Was just thinking about you today. How are you, How is Bigfoot?
I'm great but Bigfoot is dealing with a bit of post trail depression. He's working through it though, he moves back into his house today.
@@FrozensAdventures prayers continue for him. So glad you’re doing well.
Did you sell your ice axe? If not, I'd like to buy it for 2025.
Yes I sold it to a used gear shop in Lake Tahoe
