A beautiful compilation... Frances O'Connor and Johnny Lee Miller give stunning presentations of acting in this beautiful film. This film is a piece of art. What does it matter if it is not exactly like the novel. It was never meant to be. Kudos as well to Canadians Patricia Rozema and Lesley Barber.

I do think Johnny Lee Miller is amazing in this, but it shouldn't be called Mansfield Park because there's changing things for adaptation and then there's just making crap up because you think you know better than Jane Austen. Patricia Rozema does NOT know how to tell a story better than Jane nor how to translate it to the screen. The actors are good, but the writing for this adaptation is horrible. It only sounds good because the actors are talented.

I just finished this book and it was so good. This movie seems to be much different from the book. Fanny already knew about Tom from a letter she received I believe from her Aunt Bertram. And Susan goes with them back to Mansfield.

Edmund's arrival would have been better if they had kept what he says and does with Fanny: he hugs her only calling "My Fanny" and "my only comfort now". And then silence -- both overwhelmed with emotion. It would have been more poignant -- in this scene he seems very businesslike. It's been a while since I've seen this movie, but doesn't Susan Price go to Mansfield Park?

Susan does go to back to Mansfield with them. She takes Fanny’s place next to her aunt after Edmund and Fanny gets married.

This writer is obsessed with making unneeded changes. Why did they leave Susan behind? In the book they took Susan with them. It's bad enough the writer was idiot enough to mess up Tom Bertram to make a point on slavery that had nothing to do with the plot (like at freaking ALL), made Fanny strong and tomboyish instead of sickly, cut William out of the story (when his gift to Fanny is actually important to the plot), but she managed to include Susan and abandon her character at the same time. Badly done!

They left Susan behind because the pacing would not have worked in showing all the letters. Susan still ends up at Mansfield in the film.

@@mrs.manrique7411 taking Susan wouldn't have changed the pacing at all. They didn't have to show all the letters for her to literally climb into the carriage with them.

Don't expect too much of it, Dear. Parts of it are very well done but it's overall not a very good movie (suffers from major tone whiplash, for one thing) and a worse adaptation. Why Hollywood let a woman who clearly hated Fanny Price and the Bertrams on principal and only wanted to adapt the book to add weird lesbian vibes between Mary and Fanny write this I shall never understand. It has some very good parts, like the young Fanny scenes, Sophia Myles as Susan (and cute little Anna Popplewell as Betsy), actually decent romantic moments here and there, and is far from unwatchable, but don't go in expecting it to be true to the book or have any understanding of the main characters, or you'll probably be disappointed. I especially hate what they did to Tom Bertram in this myself.

At the beginning of this scene, Jonny Lee Miller is wearing more lipstick than the actresses.
