Prerequisites
Basic understanding of TCP /IP
TCP/IP and Subnet Masking
Purpose of Class
This class teaches students what DCHP is and the core concepts of Dynamic Host Control Protocol.
Class Notes
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
DHCP is a Server Service
Separate from DNS
Can be found in Windows Servers/ Linux/ Unix and Home or Small office Routers
DHCP Servers Assign:
Dynamic IP Addresses
Static Subnet Mask
Static Default gateway
Static Primary and Secondary DNS Servers
Scope is the pool of addresses that the DHCP server can assign from. Such as192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200
Lease is the length of time that the DHCP server will reserve the IP address for the client.
Clients will try to renew the lease periodically
Lease length can be manually configured on a per server basis
Reservations are IP Addresses that are reserved for systems that need Static IP Addresses
Steps for Getting an IP
DHCPDiscover -- Client Requests an IP from Any Available DHCP Server
DHCPOffer -- DHCP Servers offer IP Addresses
DHCPRequest -- Client Acknowledges which IP Address it has accepted
DHCPAck -- DHCP Server Acknowledges Client has accepted IP Address

Anyway, thanks for making this video. I have a test comming up in 3 days and this helped me a lot. I am really greatuul!
Thanks Eli, another clear explanation! You're providing a great service for IT students all over the world. Keep it up!
Than you Eli Network Master, tomorrow is my Network DHCP knowledge presentation. I hope i can preform well with all the information given by you. Thank you so much
Hes the best
Baddest, baldest IT guy on the planet. Thanks Eli.
😁 typical bald IT guy. But then he experienced a burnout. Again typical of IT guys.
@@SiddharthSinghFiery69 what happened after the burnout?
God bless you, brother, thank you so much!
Hello Eli,
I have been working with computers, shall we say, when they were made with Vacuum Tubes. Well, almost.. You seem to have this network calculus down. I am the Break / Fix person you mentioned as yourself in another video. I mostly did POS systems and refresh projects for Retail customers. I really never had to worry about TCP/IP because that was always handled by Level 2-3 support.
I have been out of work since January and recently went on an interview where I just looked plain stupid. I really should have studied this content rather than wasting my time on Electronics.. I do have a BS in electronics but how often will I need Quadratics or Calculus to fix a computer, like NEVER.. I just wanted to thank you as in just a few days I have a better understanding of Networks and the basics network infrastructure. I am also absorb a little SQL and Data Base fundamentals. Thanks again Eli.
Durf. .
+sdrtyrty rtyuty you are a disgrace
+Willy Durf I admire the fact that you can appreciate help and humbly thank someone for it with such grace. You are a role model.

Thanks Eli..Your explanations are so good. Thanks once more
Thanks Eli unbelievably lovely and very articulated as usual .Bless you
Makes it seem very simple and logical - who has been hiding this guy?
Thanks for the DHCP, all set to follow your Server 2012 course.
Set up a vituralbox environment with Server 2012 and both a Win7 and Win8 client using pfsene to isolate the network.
Wish I had the metal for a real test lab, it is the best way to go.
Very good video, very well explained will definitely sub!
I watched several of your videos, have been very helpful in clarifying a lot of matters, thank you

The best informative video that i have seen u rock Eli
Thank you a lot for your efforts. Looking forward for Windows 2012 DNS class.
Hello Eli, Talking about the DHCP is good but it would be better to demonstrate it in series of commands. Seeing is Believing. Show the necessary interface and related commands.
Hi Eli,
You have explained a concept in a very nice way. :)
thank you, very clear explanation.
Very well explained.Even a novice like me got some insight into this subject.
well Sir, i enjoy watching all off your stuff.

I like your old skool whiteboard better lol. But great bid as always, so helpful
it totally depends on what you are up to.. main thing is to understand what tasks need to be done. If it is running cmd, than you can use old celeron powered laptop.
Amazing! You are outstanding at explaining this.
Thanks!
Much better than just reading this boring MOAC book.
i'm in love with the shape of you Eli :)
Need some videos on SSCM,WSUS,SUS, your video are easy to understand..Thank you
Thank you Eli Network Master
I like what you did with the whiteboard
Eli, would you be discussing clustering as well in the future videos? Your teaching technique is remarkable!

Excellent video. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Eli, you rock mate!!
Great explanation buddy thanks
Hi Eli, got few questions on DHCP. In all my questions I am trying to relate
to On Field implementation, so questions also might be wrong
1. How the DHCP Packet travel to the ISP ? how means first it need to bypass the local gateway, and local gateway will be acting as a Relay ( if my understanding is correct ), aftwards how ( DSLAM or many routers not sure) the packet will reach to the ISP Router.
Basically the question here is what is common/best topology is used ( keeping in mind factor like firewall/hacking)
can you give a example of any ISP vender of your country and as a user how you really connect. As in between user and ISP you can get different devices of differnt vendors...
2. I saw a video of a firewall (linksys), where the firewall was also capable of providing an IP as DHCP was running. How the IP provided by that firewall and ISP differs ?
is the IP given by firewall is routable ? if routable is it because of the conecpt of NAT ? if because of NAT will there be any impact on network ?
3. Any device which is capable of responding of your request is called a server. Question here is, if a ISP is running a DHCP, does is have to be a edge router ?
Can you please post a video of edge and core router. It would be really great.
Thank for posting those beautiful videos :)
great work man ,, keep and keep going :) ..and we follow you
Very clear!!! Thanks a lot for the awesome video!
Well explained,thank you!
really helpful, thanks, Eli.
Yes. This should be part of a playlist. Check his channel.

Setiawan-Jakarta
Great lesson, thanks
Thanks Eli.
Awesome video!
Great video, thanks!
Awesome. Thank you.
Very useful information brother, THANK YOU. I have a question, though, what is the maximum number of ip addresses a DHCP server could assign per subnet (on a single network)?
Thanks in advance!
Question: Scope assigning IP's - in the section around 7:10, I notice the scope is set to ##.##.##.100 and ##.200, is 100 not included as I hear you say from 101, but is inclusive of 200 as mentioned. Sorry my mind doesn't see this as logical when the first part of the scope is not incorporated and then the last part is.
this is what i was exactly looking for (Y) thanks .
super info sir
nice work
How do I switch my DHCP server for ONLY my computer? My ISP forces me to use theirs. But I want to make the computer only use the DHCP of my active directory. How Do I do that?
THX so much Eli
I have leared something today :) thanks a lot to you....
When assigning a computer a DHCP reservation, how does the DHCP server know which computer the reservation should be assigned to? Is it the MAC address of the computer?
Really thanx Eli you are amazing :)
18:10 Noobie question but wouldn't that be a reason to assign DHCP servers static IP addresses? So no computer with a different IP than the one assigned could pretend to be the DHCP server? And then assign the client computers to use a static IP for DHCP in network properties > IPV4 properties? Or maybe that wouldn't work because there could be more than one DHCP server and there's only 1 blank for a static?
very very helpful
Awesome, I kinda like the regular white board though
Hi Eli,
I recently decided I would get into the IT field a little over a year ago and decided to enroll in a program that packaged 5 different IT certifications including CompTIA's A+/Network+ and Microsoft's Windows 7/Active Directory/Network Infrastructure. I am now working in the IT field providing support for AV equipment, but I would like to get into desktop support and move up from there by developing my experience. Do you have any advice as far as learning or developing my experience?
Thanks for the Video Sir. I am new to Networking but I have heard that Default gateway is the actually a Router and It assighns the IP address to all the devices connected to the Network(Home Network) Then what is the kind of IP address that DHCP provides and as Default gateway is your Router then how DHCP assighn the Default Gateway. I am sorry If I sound dumb but please explain. It will be a big help.
Thanks
Thanks Eli
Good explanation but very basic for beginners. No setup information. Was looking for Cisco commands for SLAAC Funny, while watching the video I noticed a bug crawling on his desk (left side) at 21:30. Waiting or it to crawl up his arm. LOL
how would I provide one IP range for reservations and a different one for Mac addr that are not in the reservations?
best tuotor ever
great stuff
