  • In this video I do a full review of the new Fostex T96A super tweeter. I purchased these for my own personal use and thought it would be interesting to review this product and explain the rationale for using a product like this.

    Hi.. Have you tried this to augment a 2 way compression driver set up? I mean use this as a super tweeter above let’s say a 1” exit driver/horn (600Hz) combo? Would the Fostex benefit with a horn mounted on it too in this set up?

    Thx for the review. I built a pair of speakers with Fostex Fe208E sigma. Based on your video, I’d like to add Fostex super tweeter. Pls recommend which Super tweeter model and capacitor to achieve a balanced sound with the full range Fe208E Sigma, if possible.

    Great video and in-depth analysis! Was looking at one of their tweeters, but wasn't so sure about the measurements Fostex privided.
    Could you do a tutorial video on how to make these directivity patterns?

    A test and waveguide for beyma amt tpl 150 would also be interesting

    about the riniging in the step-response: seems to be the resonance not going to stop. The question is: do you hear it? How about the sound added to a fullrange?

    think it's best if you have the tweeter pointing up as a dipole
    so important to isolated from the cabinet place it on some big balls blue tack

    Cool video. Can you cover why someone would integrate this with a full range driver instead of just building a two or multi-way speaker to begin with?

      The single driver configuration is a simple and affordable way to achieve a coherent sound characteristic. They do well in near field listening where the physical distance between drivers in a multi-way become an issue.

    You can't hear the output of the ST, but you may hear the sub harmonics.

    That looks like a very steep rolloff. Is the ringing shown in the impulse not a result of that? One thing that I've never understood with these supertweeters is that the center to center distance is never going to be within a good range. If you're crossing at 5kHz and want to be within 1/4 wavelength then that would only give you 1.7cm

      @lio1234234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only that, it's 1.7cm between the centres of the drivers! You can probably get a little longer with stupidly steep crossovers, which is why super tweeters are inherently a bad idea. However if your speaker is lacking in highs, something is better than nothing!!!

    can you do some test and ideas of the fane 15300tc such an interesting driver and sounds so good once burned in . really needs some help to control the dispersion though some help or ideas would be appreciated

      Wow interesting driver! I’m sure it has very narrow directivity in the treble. Hopefully my future videos can address this.

    How does a speaker going to 30k hz benefit in a stereo or home theater system ? Since i cant hear past 14k

    • @thinkIndependent2024
      @thinkIndependent2024 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are digital only no the benefits come with diffusion at higher frequency

    • @thinkIndependent2024
      @thinkIndependent2024 ปีที่แล้ว

      Super Tweeters started when I was near your age before the steep digital cutoff filters ( it was originally more of a diffusion like room correction) in today's systems you need Vinyl and the High frequency Amp they only sell it for legacy purposes ( the history to confirm my statement is available through a little research)

    the only supertweeters i'm seriously considering are Selenium ST400 and various Beyma units ... i used to have a Beyma AST05 in the car and it was tremendous ... but it's basically just a 4 ohm neodymium version of the Pro-Audio CP12 ... with Fostex you're paying for that extension to 30 khz ... but the sad reality is that both streamed music and ears ( unless you're a teenager ) cut off around 16 khz so realistically Selenium and Beyma going to 20 khz is more than anybody needs. Ultimately though the Selenium will beam quite a bit while the Beyma CP12 should be much better ... and it's 60 bucks ... and i had already used it before basically in AST-05 form above 7 khz ... i had it crossed to 1.5" scan-speak dome mid-tweeter - together they delivered insane resolution, clarity and output in the higher frequencies ... it sounded like having a fiber optic cable stuck into your brain

    I'm unclear on how this would "improve" a given multi driver design when there's no proper integration of this driver with the original tweeter. There's nothing about getting the relative level between these two parts of the system. Seems like a product causing a problem trying to fix a non-existent one. More speaker snake oil.

    • @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding
      @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s used with fullrange “single” drivers. The bandwidth up to 32kHz along with wide off axis coverage help sound quality when used out of phase with fullrange. The higher bandwidth helps improve leading edge of transients within the audible the band. There’s no snake oil. Everything I stated is backed up by test data. I never said anything about integrating with a tweeter.
