Thank you so much for doing this. You got everything right IMO. It's about opening up to it, using it for the right time etc, like at the gym or anything motivationally. There was something about aggression in there. My theory is that people that only listen to soft music build up more aggression as they don't have a good outlet. Metalheads don't lash out as much, seemingly unprovoked, IMO. Sure you can headbang without hair. Take care though. These guys make it look easy but there's quite some practice involved. I'd definitely watch more AE reactions, if you're up for it. 🤘 I'd say the heavy vocals are the foundation for this band. Once you can look past that, you can really appreciate the beautiful arrangements and compositions. For me it's like hearing the music of a higher species or something. It's like the music is melodic but extremely loud, for us, but not for them. Like a worm listening to a human. The sound would boom like thunder across the sky. 😁 I promise, I don't do drugs. Just trying to convey an idea.
I look forward to checking out some other songs. I never thought about music preference as it relates to the ability to harmlessly release stress/tension/aggression. I do know that working out is how I cope with stress. Even when I'm having a horrible day, a good workout with some great workout music makes life so much more manageable.
I understand your point about the lyrics - of the new album "Deceivers" this is the only track where I struggle - and am very used to Alissa and very much a fan. The sheer speed she is getting the words out makes it difficult - when she slows down for the chorus "Don't fear the watcher..." is is much much clearer. That is much more typical of her style and she changes word textures more when not working so fast. So, honestly, this isn't an Arch Enemy song I would recommend for people not used to growls.
I also get the energy and aggression - Metal has this effect on me, I workout to it too. I'm not sure about channelling it outward to others when the music itself can feel cathartic and a release.
The whole concert at Wacken Open:Air 2022 was streamed live and free so we watched this video being filmed. It was terrific and I'm grateful for the access they granted.
