Great song and solid enhancements. I recently rediscovered this song. It really seems like such a timeless rock opera classic. There is nothing like it. I read in another comment for this song someone was pondering the creation of the lyrics and said he thought it must have been something like this . . . Imagine Gary Brooker and a friend sitting around in a bar and the friend says "I bet you $10 you can't come up with a song with the word Conquistador in the title" and Gary says hold on a minute, I'll be right back . . . It's also very interesting if you listen to Procal Harum's different renditions of the tune how well Gary Brooker's voice has held up through the years. From 1967 though at least 2006 he still sounds magnificent. I've heard him sing the tune through 2014 as well. Gary passed away in 2022. I haven't explored any other Procal Harum songs since I didn't want to be disappointed so I kind of view them as a one-hit-wonder. For anyone else looking for an oddly titled classic tune look up "I don't like Monday's" by the Boomtown Rats and Sir Bob Geldof. Another one-hit-wonder.
Can't believe you have not listened to other Procol Harum song,if you like this there plenty more to enjoy believe me.I am a massive fan of Procol and have seen them live 8 times and have all there albums. Why not try A Salty Dog or Grand Hotel and let me know what you think. There are tons more from this band and I honestly hope you give them a hearing ,if you only like them half as much as I do it will be worth it.
Scott, if you think this live version of Conquistador is brilliant (which it is of course), I urge you with all my heart and soul to search out A Salty Dog from the Live in Denmark concert. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Prepare for your goosebumps to get goosebumps !!
PROCOL HARUM - "Conquistador" LYRICS Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company And like some angel's haloed brow You reek of purity I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen And in your death mask face There are no signs which can be seen And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield And in your rusty scabbard now The sand has taken seed And though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still The sea has washed across your face And taken of its fill And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind Conquistador there is no time I must pay my respect And though I came to jeer at you I leave now with regret And as the gloom begins to fall I see there is no aureole And though you came with sword held high You did not conquer, only die And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind
Back in the bad old days of the late 70's, Gary Brooker and Eric Clapton would while away afternoons at a bar near Clapton's estate drinking bottles of Courvoisier that helped them drink themselves into their daily stupor. From what I understand Clapton helped Brooker swear it off in the late 80's which helped Gary rejuvenate his career.
Ian Paice neighbour...superb song, especially this version with the Orchestra.
Nice enhancement of this classic Clear and bright.

Lyricist Keith Reid wrote the lyrics after hearing the music Brooker had written.

PROCOL HARUM - "Conquistador" LYRICS
Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company
And like some angel's haloed brow
You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
And taken of its fill
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador there is no time
I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you
I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no aureole
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

No such thing my friend,
There were no bad old days of the 70s. Now... right now, this is the bad old days 🥺
Personally I've trained myself to strictly drink only on days that end in "y"
Outstanding
Those times are gone
just reminded why i am stuck in 60s and 70s rock era

Well it does sound like the Loudness button is on. It sounds murky. What happened to the treble and he definition?
