  • Welcome to the first iGeN webinar! We are excited to provide you with an overview of the study as well as some important updates. During our session we will discuss why intergenerational research is important and how it can contribute to our understanding of healthy aging. We would also like to hear what you are hoping to gain from participating in the study and discuss what topics are important to you and your family.
The webinar is presented by our study leads, Drs. Andrea Gonzalez, Parminder Raina, and Divya Joshi. A question-and-answer period follows.
Dr. Andrea Gonzalez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. She holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Family Health and Preventive Interventions and was recently inducted in the Royal Society of Canada as a New College Member. Her work focuses on intergenerational relations and developing and evaluating evidence-based preventive interventions. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and playing board games with her family, helping her 14-year-old son with homework, skating and biking, and reading (if she gets the time!).
Dr. Parminder Raina is a Professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster University. He specializes in the epidemiology of aging with emphasis on developing the interdisciplinary field of geroscience to understand the processes of aging from cell to society. Raina holds a Canada Research Chair in Geroscience, and the Endowed Raymond and Margaret Labarge Chair in Research and Knowledge Application for Optimal Aging. Raina became a Member of Order of Canada in 2022 for his research in aging. He is the founding Scientific Director of the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging, and The Labarge Centre for Mobility in Aging, and is the lead principal investigator of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.
Dr. Divya Joshi is a Research Associate Academic in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster University. Dr. Joshi is one of the MIRA-iGeN study leads. Dr. Joshi’s overarching areas of interest including examining the associations between exposure to adverse childhood experiences and healthy aging outcomes including chronic conditions, mental health, disability, functionality, social participation, and biological age acceleration in individuals across the life course and generations.
