Since I'm an faith arcane build I use use the briar sword sometimes So I had your idea except I use briar hands and legs with bull goats Or scaled legs and any matching hands of your choice gets you to about 51 depending on your hands
@@EyalBrown personally don’t like the solitude chest piece, makes my character look fat. I prefer the nights cavalry chest with the rest of my armor being the solitude set
I started playing Elden Ring in November of 2023. I fell in love with the game and the genre. Nothing compares to the immersion and the feeling of satisfaction when trying a new build or defeating a boss. Thank you for working so hard to put out these builds in a timely manner! I have tried them all! No matter what people say I will always go to Fextralife for my builds and have a smile on my face!
I got the sword as a drop while trying to farm the armour set for my Messmer's Spear and tried it out a bit. I have never looked back. I love this thing - its moveset is super intuitive to me and the range and stagger potential are ridiculous even though it always feels shorter than it should be? Its design is amazing and speaks to the fancy loving side of me.... so glad you're giving it some love in a build guide!
Rain of fire has been buffed and is pretty great now! Yeah, it still has the issue with enemies walking away, but what I like to do is cast it not locked on so that it spawns right above me and hits anything that's coming in to attack me.
Thanks for the awesome video! I use this build at RL 175 with these stats: 60 Vigor 28 Mind 35 Endurance 22 Strength 18 Dexterity 9 Intelligence 75 Faith 7 Arcane You could probably move 5 out of Endurance into Faith if you don't mind lighter armor. I use the Fire Prelate Gauntlets and Greaves so I need the extra endurance. You could also move 7 in Strength to put 2 more in Mind and 5 more in Faith if you don't mind switching to Two-Hand after casting. Hope you all enjoy playing FKGS as much as I have! It's AMAZING
Flamespear is my new favorite AOW. (I generally prefer projectile like AOW's) - Amazing range (I think it has the best range of all AOW's better than Sacred- and Storm Blade) - the longer the charge the better the range and the damage - Messmer Fire buff for 40 Seconds (Stronger than normal fire buff) - The projectile penetrates through multiple enemies - Hitting the AOW in CQC, especially fully charged, does enormous poise damage - Lady Maria vibes - It doesn't feel overpowered. I don't see any nerfs in the near future.
same dude, and honestly there's one thing i want to know about it does it simply SHARE teh animation of Impaling Thrust, or does it ALSO have the ability to punch through blocking if so, for all us pure faiths that love the short spear its just a straight upgrade from impaling thrust
I hit Romina for 6 k damage on a charged flame spear, had only shard of alexander godfrey icon and fgms ,no fire charm or golden vow, it does insane damage really and staggers a lot of though enemies. Plus when you hit it on as a counter move does even more damage
@@fsylar1188 I use Flame Skewer when I'm going against bosses. It does deal more damage and more poise damage, but i use Lance around the overworld since having a ranged attack is very useful.
Just started my first faith build and I used this weapon on my strength playthrough for a couple bosses. Geeked to try this load out for the faith side to use those incants
one thing to be aware of is that the chest piece description suggests the cape is what buffs fire knight skills so altering the chestpiece may remove the buff as the altered piece's description lacks the buff.
I've been running this for a couple weeks now and I love it. I also used flame art hand-to-hand with Palm Strike and Godfrey talisman, and it's a great pairing for the sword ash as both hit so incredibly hard with a charge-up. You can one-shot most mobs and break stance so quick. I killed Gaius with the flame spear in two casts, crit, and another two casts. Very strong stuff!
I was considering going for a fire build using Fire Knights gear and weapons, and then you do that. Thanks for sparing me the potential headache of theorycrafting
I run it slightly differently, but this build is probably my new favorite build in the game. I love the Messmer spells, and both Fireknight Greatsword with Flame Spear and Queelign's Sword with Flame Skewer feel good to use. Been having fun challenging myself to see who I can take out with only fire spells, buffs, and damage.
This build is also very good in pvp! Flame spear is excellent for roll catching, just start charging it after hitting an attack and release as soon as they roll.
I've been using the Fire Knight Impaler build you made a couple of weeks ago and I've been having so much fun, I will try to make a hybrid build between that one and this one to make it even better!
Messmer's spear is my all time favorite weapon, that combined with the smithstone shield, I can finally bully the toxic invaders, fun fact, the shield can double hit an enemy, toss it point blank, it'll hit when it passes through them for little damage but will fly back through the enemy doing insane damage, combined with a couple hits from your right hand weapon. Can really go full captain America on some poor soul with that thing.
Messmer's Orb is the only incantation caught with a boss remembrance that has decent damage. Miquella's Light has pathetic damage for an incantation that requires 72 points in faith.
Because I like to get creative with your builds, I slot a fully-smithed Erdtree Seal as right weapon 2, and switch to it on horseback. Also, everyone feel free to grind for a Fire Knight Shortsword; infuse with Parry, Assassin's Gambit, etc.
Man I feel like this build in particular is really OP. Blaseblade and blood cheese aside, this absolutely slaps. To try to be different I tried a dex faith lightning build and it was ridiculously strong as well - not many enemies have lightning resistance and it murders the abductors
I find the Flame Skewer Skill to be the better choice due to its speed and fallow up Skill. The Stun from the damage Allows you to true combo with its melee attack.
I'd advocate swapping between the flame spear/beam and the uppercut one with followup attack. An off weapon might be the serpent flail/boom hammer-lite, if we fire scorpion tear. Imo, the boosting talismans should be sharper as once you're 65ish faith it's erdtree. Agree too fiddly to main hard erdtree and offhand the bonus, as when your doing that it's often to have a greatshield in off these days.
I just ran into the fire knights & really like the weapons. Got the armor, short sword & the first spell. I’m doing an intelligence/str/dex frost run. Never used spells offensively before. Basically been an unga bunga for all DS games & bloodbourne. Spells makes exploration a lot easier & I rarely use my +24 bow. This fire knight sword looks awesome. May be my next run. Gotta farm, cya
This greatsword is fucking amazing. I think it’s my favourite infusable weapon in the game, the moveset feels so damn good and fluid with godslayer R1’s and Zweihander R2’s
I started my flame knight build about 2 weeks ago, right after I finished the dlc, I went for Flame Skewer instead of flame spear, rain of fire was sum trash, but after the buff it legit is a boss melter.
surprised he didnt mentioned the twohanded sword talisman for if you want to use the sword more since it gives a damage buff as long as you two hand it
If you mainly want to just use the weapon and ash you can swap one of the spell based talismans for the one that increases thrusting weapon crits as the R2s, some rolling attacks and Flame Spear are thrusting attacks
I just put a build together from the fire knight gear and weapons with mess ers spear. I didn't even watch this video until now lmfao I built a build without even knowing this video existed till this very second xD
Gotta say, the Flamberge has been my #1 favorite weapon in all Souls-games (except the weird flamberge in DS1) for the longest time, since Demon's Souls. But man, the Fire Knight's Greatsword is coming close to steal the title for the first time. At first I was disappointed for it not being a light greatsword and not having innate bleed build-up, but it has the better colossal sword moveset with poking attacks and the amount of fire damage you can reach with the Flame Art infusion + Flame Grant Me Strenght, Golden Vow, Fire Scorpion Charm, Two-hand talisman, Fire Knight Helmet, Fire-Shrouding Crystal Tear and Oil-Soaked Crystal Tear is INSANE. I defeated the Putrescent Knight in 4 swings, didn't even got to see the 2nd phase! Most other bosses took only double the amount of hits too, at best. But I surely prefer to have 101 poise, as I'm totally trading hits in fights. xD As I was not using spells except for the buffs, I also prefered the Flame Skewer melee AoW. You can't be staggered out of the first part of it, and it slightly chase foes.
A good way ive found to get like 63 poise is from using serpent helm, fire knight chest and then the arms and legs from the solitude armor set. Plus it looks good with the set
So I made a build very similar to this I use the flame knight great sword but also have impaler spear equipped as well fir that sick high damaging skill
I mixed this build with the Flame Impaler so that I could do a Messmer cosplay with both parts of his remembrance. Didn’t realize how much changing up my build would improve the fun! Such a great combo of abilities.
I personally prefer flame skewer on the fire knight greatsword. The initial skewer attack staggers even the biggest enemies and you can follow up with an R2 input to throw a mini fire spell at them which staggers again and then you can flow straight into R1’s from there. The whole combo does devastating damage and the first part of the ash, the flame skewer, still costs your armament in Messmerfire like the flame spear does.
@@Pentagrxxm for sure, at first I was disappointed that it doesn’t knock enemies into the air like giant hunt, but considering it buffs your weapon and you can follow up with that heavy input to stagger, I’ve really come to like it.
@@tristanlambert658 yeah same here, thats the main reason I use giant hunt. I think its better against bosses as well because the follow ups are faster and the poise damage is very similar.
I might give this a try. I’m currently going through my second playthrough of the DLC as my STR/FTH character and since it was my first character the stats were kinda all over the place. This gives me some good ideas on how to fix it.
Recommendation: swap out Fire Knight's GS (I know, sacrilege) for Queelign's Greatsword (a heavy thrusting sword that has the same str-scaling fire properties, but is also infusible). It is lighter, and the equip reqs are more forgiving for a dedicating casting build.
You can equip Hoslow's Helm, Fire Knight Armor, Fire Prelate Gauntlets and the Hoslow's Greaves for at least 50 poise and fashion at the same time. Of course, that means there won't be the benefit from the bonus damage received from Messmer's helm. But IMO I went for Diallos's Helm because I was literally a Silver Knight.
Messmer’s helm fashions well with the death knight set. And death knight helm fashions well with Messmer’s robes. In case anyone wants to chuck fire and lightning
Could do an iron fire knight build. Iron perfume Fire knight helm and armor Rakshasa gauntlets and grieves Talimans alex shard, godfrey icon, two-handed and fire scorpion charm. Then you can off-hand whatever shield gives you a passive boost.

I found the Messmer soldier spear combined with flame skewer is a very potent mix, got the reach and damage to body most things and when using the ash of war you can just melt black/fire knights, and murder a mob in close range with its follow up heavy attacks when using the Ash
i think it could be worth it do have oil pots with this build. like for before you do a mesmer attack or before the flame spear it could add alot of damage
I like putting the other fire inight ash of war on the great sword and then equipping a fire knight short sword in my right hand as well so i get both abilities. I like that the other one is similar to Giant hunt with flame of the red mains on the second attack.... Then when I need to hit something out of range I switch over to the other weapon and use it like a ranged weapon and switch back to the greatsword when I want to get in close again
