  • Hi everyone! I'm Holly! In this video, I am making Fruity Loops Sea Salt Soap Bars! WOO!
    Sea Salt Soaps are super hard soap bars that create a dense lather. They can be mildly exfoliating to some though most find the salt to be smooth on the skin. Many people use sea salt soaps as hand soaps in high traffic areas because the soaps can stand up to lots of use without a lot of drying in between. Some feel the salt is purifying but we don't make any claims one way or another.

    I was wondering why the website said there was 0% vanilin but it discolors that strongly so I checked The Flaming Candle's fruit loops type fragrance and it says it contains 0% vanilin but contains 5.2% of ethyl vanilin. I don't know anything about fragrance oil manufacturing, I just saw that and thought that might have something to do with the color.

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! With the sea salt soaps, we use a higher superfat. A standard cold process soap will have a superfat of 5-6%. This is the percentage of free oils in the batch that are not bonding 1:1 with the sodium hydroxide. With sea salt soaps, we use a 20% superfat. So that counteracts the cleansing factor of coconut oil in soap. That being said, anyone sensitive to coconut oil and/or sea salt does still have the potential to have issues with a sea salt soap. Overall, a balanced bar will not be drying to the skin.

      That's great that you are doing lots of research. It is recommended that you make soap for well over a year (I recommend a few years) before selling. You'll not only want to experiment to find your recipe but then you'll need to test it over time. I don't sell at markets but I would think it would be very similar to selling online. You'll need a federal tax ID, licenses in your city, county, and state, insurance, etc..

    Have you ever tried the fruit loops from Indigo? I'm wondering how this compares. I absolutely love the one from indigo but the discoloration was pretty bad. Its fine in bath bombs but made my soap look like it had the chicken pocks. It was a really spotty discoloration that took about three months to cover the whole bar. I ended up just selling them to friends for super cheap to cover my cost.

      Oh no! I commented before the end of the video so didn't see that discoloration. Holy moly! and with no vanillin!! It worked perfectly with your design though. Kind of looks like chocolate milk.

      Yep! We're gearing up for a release tonight! Our products go live at 7:30pm central at moriversoap.com. Our products often sell quickly. I make what I can and as much as I can. I have so many products that my customers enjoy that I try to keep them in rotation. I am unable to stock everything all the time. I usually have a release every 4-8 weeks. The theme for this release is rainbows. The next one will be summer/beach themed. Then I will remake some of our normal favorites before moving on to Fall and Holiday. YAY! Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on releases and products being made.

    The last time I ordered your soaps was 3 years ago. They were the best soaps I ever had! I placed 7 orders and enjoyed everything I bought. You then had some significant price increases shortly after that priced me out of affording your soaps. I just checked my order from 3 years ago and your soaps were $8.50 a bar. They are now $12 a bar 3 years later. I always check your new releases to see if any new sales will pop up but it's rare. I am so happy to see you have some wonky soaps for a great price but it's hard to justify paying that price to buy wonky soaps when that same price afforded me the opportunity to get beautiful soaps not too long ago. Anyway, you are great at what you do, your soaps are amazing, I just wish I could afford them again. Until then I will hang tight for a great sale and I will make sure to stock up when you do! Thank you!

      As creators get better at what they do and the cost of making goes up so do the prices. This comment does nothing but try to make the creator feel bad and rally others to be outraged over creator prices.

      Hello! I'm with you there...I wish I didn't have to price at what they are. Please note that the higher $12 is for the Rainbow soaps which I do charge more for as they cost more to create. My soaps in general tend to be larger than 3 years ago. Most of the regular soaps on the website are listed at $10 currently. Our soaps actually would retail at $20+ if I was charging correctly. I've always only charged wholesale prices for them. Unfortunately, our supplies (not to mention shipping) have gotten outrageous and yes, it's in the 3 year range that it's been the worst. Covid caused us so many more issues.
      So here's what I can offer you...tonight I will be restocking our It's Just Good Soap soaps. They are made with less expensive ingredients. A 4 oz bar is $6 and I will have 4 fantastic scents available tonight at 7:30pm central. I also have a buy 9 soaps, get one free discount available as well.
      Every year our book keeper shakes her finger at us because we're charging far less than we should be for expenses going out. We do not make a living wage from our products but we do work more hours than most. Thank you for checking out the website and perhaps some of the It's Just Good Soap Collection might interest you tonight.

    Wow... colourful and fun.
    Yet, as a truly Natural, Organic, and Fair Trade Soap maker from Edmonton City, Canada... i was expecting Essential Oils of Lemon, Bergamot, Grapefruit, etcetera... Why do so many Soap Makers make "fruity" scented soaps with potentially harmful Fragrance Oils? is it because Fragrance Oils are cheaper and /or more convenient to purchase? Could you attempt a tutorial dying with clays and using Organic Essential Oils to see what outcome you get? ;)

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thanks! I have worked with natural colorants and essential oils. The outcome is not one that my customers prefer. It is just not my market. We use fragrance oils and colorants following the proper safety guidelines. Additionally and one very important factor...essential oils do real things to the body as you surely know. The people that can use essential oils does vary and they don't always target a wide audience. Essential oils do have the potential to be dangerous, more so than fragrances at times. To repeat though, I do make soaps with essential oils and sometimes natural colorants as well.

    • @keekeejenkins6162
      @keekeejenkins6162 ปีที่แล้ว

      What a snotty comment... I've had more obvious reactions to essential oils (hi lemongrass, tea tree and eucalyptus) than I ever have with fragrance oils. Another prime example of "you do you." I was hesitant to use FOs too but I got over it by doing a little research...
