Turned Around

- I wrote this probably 15 years ago. This song, while taking some bits and pieces from my young life, is fictional and was mostly me just imagining a scene from a movie and writing a song about it. I was also experimenting with an unusual rhyme and music pattern scheme (for me, anyway) - aabccbddb (and so lyrics/chord patterns in sets of three instead of my usual two or four). I had fun adding effects to guitar and voice and using harmonizer.
Turned Around
By James Burkey
G6 (drop the high G) D6 (drop the high F#)
G6 D6
G6 D6 A (repeat)
Standing in the middle of the street
Unable to move my feet
Frozen there a man made of stone
Couldn’t believe my eyes
Wanted to believe your lies
So I stood there all alone
Watching you kiss him good night
Watching you holding him tight
An episode of the Twilight Zone
How could I have been so blind?
I must have been clear out of my mind
To think you had really changed.
Rumors came to my ears
Stories I refused to hear
Facts I let you rearrange.
But now the truth is known
A revealing light has shone
Now I see why you’ve been acting strange.
G6 A6
Broken promises, shattered dreams
G6 A6
All my hopes washed downstream
G6 A6
How can I face you? What can I say?
G6 A 6 D6
I just turned and walked away.
Did you even see me there?
Did you notice me stare
At your passionate embrace?
My fist still holding the ring
That has become a mockery of everything,
A symbol of my fall from grace.
The roses fall to the street,
Crushed beneath my feet,
I take one last look at your face.
A winner! James Burkey - you are a lyricist supreme - packing life into a few words. The effect of the harmonizer is great. Thanks
