    Me when I saw the title of this vid: "Probably just click bait but what the heck."
    Me when I saw 95mph in the 1/8 and 123mph in the 1/4 on that first pass: "750 hp?!?! B****, please."
    Me when you started cracking off 130mph traps: "Oh..."
    Me on your 134mph pass: "Holy s***."
    Me on your last pass: "I'll just sit quietly in my corner and eat my crow now..."

    Ive got a 09 135 fbo except turbo swap, one of the biggest differences came from the whiteline body mounts, stiffened up the chassis like you wouldn't believe! Feels like new shocks and springs, no slop.

    Jake I highly recommend the BC Racing BR series. You can get them off FCP Euro for less than a grand with a lifetime warranty. They have built-in camber plates, 30 dampener adjustments and are fully adjustable for height and preload. I'm insanely happy with them so far for DD and track use.

    You should try deep staging the first bulb, almost too the point that the second is flickering and then build boost and the car should rise into the second bulb to stage it. That way you are already up in the boost range for your launch. That way you can hold the boost you want and still cut a light. Of course that is if you’re not using the 2 step.

    • @jake_spence

    • @jamesf8864
      @jamesf8864 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good advice there, Matt. It seemed like so much thought and effort was going into these early runs when honestly, with a road car, the best thing you can do (in my opinion) is just feel the car and give it an easy ride. Leaving traffic lights and junctions hard teaches you all you need to know in terms of giving it all the throttle you can without shredding the tyres. Screw having an automated clutch release device. That just removes one of your two primary control inputs. Clutch and throttle operation are all you have, so you need to be able to feel them and adjust them moment by moment. Practice makes perfect, and we saw PLENTY of progress in this one visit to the strip 👌 9.9 next time 😂

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, true! I thought the clutch device would work better, but just didn't. I think 9.9 is pretty aggressive, but maybe one day!

    • @jamesf8864
      @jamesf8864 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jake_spence Haha just kidding with the 9.9! Playing with tech is really interesting so I can totally see why you tried that clutch release valve. I've had some success with a button-operated launch control system in the past (made by Armtech, if they still exist?). . I mounted the button to the gear lever so it was really easy to use, enabling you to set your launch RPM instantly, varying it every time if you wanted. Once it was set, it was up to you how much throttle you applied, basically making the throttle pedal your boost pressure adjustor (more throttle = more boost) and then you release the clutch when you have the boost you want. I typically left the line with +2 psi of boost and a turbo already at speed, compared to maybe - 6 psi and a slow-spinning, laggy turbo. Your 2 step seems to be a bit of a nuisance for you. Maybe it's just not working right?

    Aye bro congrats on your 10sec pass I’ve been kind of just following your channel since I just picked up a 135i recently. But what would help you get off the line better is if you preload your clutch while on the ebrake. We do it in the evo community to protect our transfercases.
    You pull up on the ebrake
    Hit 2 step
    Slip the clutch until the car nudges fwd
    Now you are preloaded
    When the tree falls and you are ready to launch drop the ebrake and slip the clutch.
    Hopefully this will help you if you are not doing this already!!

      It's a custom 3" done by a local shop (Legend Auto) with one Vibrant resonator. I chose 3" over 3.5" purely due to price. 3.5" was a bit more expensive. If I could do it again, I'd get 3.5" but it makes good power on the 3".

    Congrats on the pass. Couple of things that could help you. What PSI in the rear tires? You need to get a little more heat into them as well. Are you starting in the watter in second gear for the burnout and using your brakes? If you can get the 2 step working I bet it will help you on the launch. I am not a BMW guy, but when I was FWD drag racing a manual the 2 step working was the difference between a 1.828 60 ft and 2.05x 60 ft

    Wow much respect for the build that's a tough AF Bimmer, From experience All I could suggest you do for improving that time is warm the tyres up a bit more till u at least get a bit of smoke , then try flat changing if possible but anticipate a bit of wiggle going into second , another idea is get a wider sidewall to get longer ratio on first so u can launch at max revs out the hole and more squish and traction on the sidewall will help with traction cause that mph of 136 is rockin a perfect launch should see you going mid to low 10's that's if you've done weight reduction along with your build and a perfect run I'm not that familiar with what you've done in terms of gearing or weight reduction but beastly BMW for sure love it

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The launch, the 1/8 mile is the issue. They're very powerful once they get going, but struggle to get out of the hole. I'm not too sure on WIBimmers events, but search "Midwest N54 BMW" on Facebook and join if you haven't already. I'd like to get a group together sometime.

    Congrats!! You deserve it. Sometimes less is more, in case of all that lunch control hassle. I think with some goods semi-slick “street” tires and mastering the launch, you should be able to hit 10.5s. By “mastering” I’m meaning to get to the perfect launching RPMs and gear shifting. I know you can do it!! And what about some NOS after third gear?? Even tho I’m not a NOS fan!! 😂😂😂 BTW, wanted to point out I noticed some blue smoke from the exhaust at 15:45.

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it definitely has all the power I need in 3rd + 4th gear without N2O. I just need to get the 1/8 mile down. I'll keep at it and improve shifting. The car smokes from time to time, especially on decel like that. Just part of the game at this level of modification.

    • @jmccarsnmore1025
      @jmccarsnmore1025 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1
