    to everybody who has these classic dumbbels, you can tighten the collars simply by spinning the weight anticlockwise, they wont clank together at the end of every rep then and wont fall apart

    Here is a solution for the issue of needed to change from high to low weights: Just buy two sets - one big set and one small set. Since the small set doesn't almost cost anything, the price is almost the same as with just the big set and you don't need to change so much weights since if the difference is too big you just switch to the smaller set or vise versa

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think these are great old school classic weights like when I first started lifting when I was a teenager. I find value in this because I typically lift heavier weights and going up to 50 pounds isn’t going to cut. If you are a heavy lifter this set will work because you probably won’t be dropping the weights that low. I would say use this set for your heavier lifts only and use resistance band sets and calisthenics for your smaller muscles and your burnouts.

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yup, I can go heavier than these weights for a few exercises (bench press, squats, deadlifts, etc.)
      I am looking into a heavier set. Core actually called me after seeing my review and let me know they are working on a set that goes heavier. They wouldn't give me any details as a launch or how heavy, just that they are testing them. I hope we see some news soon. Thanks for watching!

    Simple solution for the cons. Buy the rubber covers for the dumbbells to reduce noice. Buy Fatgripz for better grip and less pain on palms. For space kind of just put the weights underneath your bench. For the time that’s kind of something you need to work around. I just have my rest time be a bit longer but not too long where you lose you pump. Best decision I made so far. There are more pros to these because you don’t have to drive to the gym, wait for a bench/weights to be available. It’s a good investment long term

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely agree and I'll look into the rubber pieces. I'm looking at a very similar pair but I do use the core fitness dumbbells which are easily my favorite dumbbells. It's too bad they only go to 50 lbs. Thanks for the comment :)

    Great Review gamer, I myself have the CAP adjustable ones that go up to fifty and by far the biggest issue when pyramid training is adjusting each dumbbell for every rep and exercise in total it adds about an extra 20-30 minutes to my workouts and prolongs rest periods
    I think I might end up saving up for the power blocks or bow-flexes. Huge space and time saver

    I have two sets of dumbell bar lengths - 45cm (17.7") and 35cm (13.7"). I use long bars for heavy stuff and short bars for lighter exercises or superset. I usually don't need more than two sets of dumbells for any particular training day, so I change weights before I begin training session. It can get pricy because you need more weight plates, but still far less than 50mm plates or some expensive adjustable dumbells.

    I bought theses and did some diy to help with keeping them a little quiter with them clanking against each other, I just cut out a cardboard mold and used flex seal on the parts that would touch against the screw and the other plates. Helped reduced the sound a bit and keeps them from chipping.

    Personally I found you could put the weight on the dumbbell from "Min" to "Max in half the time you showed in the video.
    Simply lift the dumbbell vertical and place all the plates you need on one side, tightly fasten, then flip, and repeat on the other side.
    Much easier than doing One Plate at a time, alternating sides, and still trying to balance it horizontally on the ground for, what I think, no practical reason.
    I enjoyed your review very much and enjoyed your feedback!

      qfiveo you’re talking about the yes4alls ? If so then not really. I just get them on my thighs and off as fast as I can. The only other thing I can think of is either some padding for the thighs like a towel or something or hey make these hooks mainly for a bar where you can have the dumbbells already set on them. Then you basically lift them off like you would a barbell.

You mention the timing from going light weight to heavy. Is this something you noticed when just using lower end weight for biceps. Thats my main focus 10-15-20 lbs. Do you recommend going through with the purchase or getting fixed weight or bowflex style dumbells. Thanks again!

      I will always prefer the easy weight-changing handles like Core Fitness and Nuobells, However, if you want a lot of weight, or a cheaper option, these dumbbells at low weights are just fine. • @qualityinn5063
    @qualityinn5063 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The only pro I would add with these (and other plate loaded dumbbells) is they can be dropped. Although I do not advocate dropping your weights on a regular basis unless you are in a basement, occasionally, accidents can happen. I haven't bought these but typically most of the powerblock/bowflex type adjustables will break if dropped (the only exception I am aware of are ironmasters - and those are ungodly expensive). I am using olympic handles but have looked at a set like this. I was doing shoulder presses while sitting on a bench and on a warm up set (not even a real working set), not sure wtf happened to this day but lost my balance and ended up basically dropping from at least 5ft drop. If I were to buy the powerblocks as an example and get the addons to be close to this set, and did what I did that day, I'd probably be out about $400 (assuming I only broke one). When you're talking about quick adjustments...there's no set rule you have to use both dumbbells when doing any lift, except for leg exercises perhaps. Just something to keep in mind

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes that is scary. I had the PowerBlocks in the past and they are fine, I just love the feeling and shape of dumbbells more and they are very easy. Being in an apartment if never risk dropping my weights without my landlord causing a ruckus lol. I do most exercises with both hands at once unless I need to develop a specific side that is lacking. Solid advice overall and thanks for the comment!

    great review! .. I’m about to get into lifting and have been debating on whether to go all in on expensive adjustable set (Powerblocks or Bowflex 1090s) and pick up an inexpensive bench…or cheap dumbbells and a nicer bench. Old school dumbbells certainly get the job done and will probably last a lot longer, so that’s where I’m currently leaning.

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the weights you need, I would go with the Core Fitness Dumbbess (50lbs each) or Nuobells (up to 80lbs). Nuobells are more expensive, but these 2 brands are by far my favorite options for home workouts.

    • @AdamsBrew78
      @AdamsBrew78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GamerBody Thanks for the input. I’ve been very tempted by the Nuobells, they’re the best looking kit I’ve seen and small width for wide range of motion-much preferable to the gigantic bowflex. My main concern would be with the plastic locking mechanism potentially causing issues with long term durability. I’ve seen a few too many peeps having issues with it locking up on them.
      Currently leaning toward the powerblock elite 90 pound expanded, since it’ll probably last decades with proper care. Will be a while before I can utilize all that weight, but I’m sure I’ll be able to punish my legs with it soon enough ;)

    The two things I don’t like, is that there is no optional cradle or a bar you can put on the floor to hold the unused weights. The other thing is that, the weights are round in shape, so there is a tendency to roll.
    I think I light check this out despite that.

      I personally like the Core grip as it isn't so tough on my hands. The Core has a smooth surface which could be harder to grip if you have really sweaty hands, otherwise I like them more and they are tapered to fit your hands better.
      The Yes4All are good if you are looking for more overall drop to the bar, but it also digs into your hands a lot more.

      I don't have experience with spring collars, but I have been using plastic clamps (Lock-Jaw 1 Inch Barbell Collar - at Amazon for reference) on my 1.2" dumbbell bars.
      I am from Russia, apart of 50mm olympic standard we have 25-26mm and 30-31mm barbell diameters for amateurs. I bought 31mm dumbell bars and they work well with these plastic collars, tested with up to 35kg(80lb) they hold even for exercises where you hold the dumbell nut side down (like triceps extension from behid the head). I don't think there are lock-jaw clamps for 1" bars.

      Yes. You can buy "standard" 1" diameter barbells in 5', 6', and 7' lengths. The 7' bars will fit on racks designed for Olympic barbells. You can also get these same kind of plates (1" hole) in 25 lb. and 50 lb. plates.
      The better 7' standard bars are rated for at least 250 lbs. I have a "Cap" 7' bar that has held 300 lbs. without bending. I would avoid the screw on type bar, though. Just get a smooth sleeve bar and use spring collars or inexpensive plastic quick lock style collars.

      @@richardmather1906 Thanks for the intel Richard and Phoenix. I was thinking of getting this DB set but was a bit worried about the compatibility between the plates (having 1.15inch holes) and a 1 inch barbell. Did any of you actually test the plates with a 1inch bar by any chance? Is it smooth or do the plates wobble alot?

    i just got mine today... but i have the connector bar for bench pressing and other barbell workouts... Its the 190lb set with connector bar... i find these babies to be extremely versatile and allow me a full range of workouts without taking up to much space... trust me a small stack of 10lbs plates takes up way less space that two 45lb plates and Olympic barbell!!... i still have my hexes though so for depending on what workout i need to do i jus alternate between them... i really wanted these because of the connector bar... im big on barbell workouts as its one of the best ways to achieve even muscle tone ratio... and its a little better for stability... but all in all i give em 4.5 out of 5

    why is it called adjustable that usally mean the kind like PowerBlock

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah they call it adjustable because you can change the weight on the handles. Normal gym dumbbells cannot be changed, you have to pick up a new set, but these allow you to add/remove weight. I hope they work for you and enjoy!
      Note, when cutting down, don't reduce weight, instead cut calories but continue to try and lift as much weight as before to reduce muscle loss.

      @@GamerBody i just never seen the title adjustable for basic dumbells unless it was the powerblock type even tho i been lifting for years i had got a set and it just was called a set
      im not that big but lost muscle i think from not lifting weights

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't continue resistance training you will lose muscle over time especially if you are not eating enough. Resistance bands can build muscle for sure, but you have to provide the body a strong enough stimulus to build muscle and eat to maintain it.
      There's a few sets of adjustable dumbbells on the market now. I personally have the Core Fitness dumbbells. Powerblock and Bowflex have there own styles as well.

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would switching to bands help you cut? It's easier to cut when you have muscle mass as you metabolic rate is higher naturally.
      You can just keep your training the same so you don't get bigger and cut the calories to burn fat. You must be in a calorie deficit so I'd keep your training the same but reduce calories to begin losing body fat :)

    • @GamerBody
      @GamerBody  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually started my first 2-3 years at a gym and home which did pack on a lot of muscle. I've now trained for over 5 years at home and kept/improved those initial results.
      I've improved my training over the years and you can definitely get what I have without the gym, but for chest and bench press 50lbs might not be enough for your goals. I'm content at my current size so mines more of maintenance but I might also look into heavier dumbbells as well.
