    Yay! You picked up Vinland Saga. It’s such an amazing manga and the anime is currently airing right now and it’s doing the manga justice.

      Word? That's good to hear that the anime is doing a good job :)
      Oh yeah I literally cannot wait to start Vinland Saga. Literally everyone is telling me that it's just a great journey... I'll probably be starting volume 1 in the last week of November. (Unless the anticipation gets to me before hand haha)

    Don't know if someone commented this already, but your channel is so underrated, the videos I have seen are so good and packed with energy. For my recommendation, I would have to say One Piece, it's very long (95 volumes, if I'm not mistaken) but it's my favorite manga of all time, you can buy in the box sets they have put out (3 box sets, 73 and onward are still yet to be put into the same format). Again, such a great channel, keep it up!

      First off, thank you so much for the kind words :) I’m glad you’re digging the videos.
      One Piece! Of course I’ve heard of it. I have a lot of thoughts on the series...
      I will say this tho - absolutely love it! I have a lot of catching up to do with the series but I am familiar with it and OP is on my to-read list. I think if and when I start collecting I’ll need to think about space so I can figure out where to put all of those volumes!
      Def expect some OP content on this channel :)
      Thanks for watching & happy holidays ~

      Ah The Promised Neverland - yes this has been recommended a ton! It's definitely on my radar. For sure I'll jump into that series soon. From what I know about it the series looks like a suspenseful - scary - cerebral type of story and I'm living for that. Right up my alley.

    Welcome to the community, really enjoyed the video and you've gained a new sub! You've got a bunch of great series in this haul, and I'd definitely recommend Solanin by Inio Asano if you're wanting more stories about (young) adults and adult problems. I also think you'd enjoy Dorohedoro if you're wanting something hyper-violent and gory, but jam-packed with character moments (and a very likeable cast!!)
    Just by the way, Ancient Magus Bride is actually a seinen!! Quite a lot of the seinen demographic are low-key "soothing" series like this; give The Girl from the Other Side a look if you enjoy Magus.
    Also, I know you had a fairly big mix up with manga vs light novels, but there are lots of great light novels out there too😉
    Oh, also also, I recommend the Shonen Jump app if you don't mind reading digitally. It's a super cheap, legal way to read a lot of the most popular Viz series, without having to dedicate shelf space to books. The shelf space struggle is real!

    • @BoogieSnacks
      @BoogieSnacks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh what a warm welcoming from a fellow creator on TH-cam! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment with all of these recommendations.
      Okay - I have heard of Solanin but have literally no idea what it is about - so I will definitely be looking that one up this weekend. I very much enjoy manga/anime that involve adult main characters or themes in the story.
      Oh & yet another series I have heard of yet know nothing about (which is exciting!) - Dorohedoro - will definitely have to check that one out. I know I'm new to this community but not knowing as much as manga/anime veterans is sort of exciting discovering all of these new titles...
      Okay I'm shook. Ancient Magus Bride is a seinen?! I had no idea! I will be doing a few videos on the series and will def have to correct my slip up in this video. Thank you for telling me :)
      Can you recommend any light novels?
      Yes, literally so many people have reached out about the Viz app - Idk there is something about have a cup of tea and flipping pages that have the new book smell that isn't there on my iPad... but nonetheless it seems to be the go to (legal) remedy for staying current with Viz's big series and saving shelf space! I may just start my subscription very, very soon.
      Thank you for watching :) ~

    • @SimplyGee
      @SimplyGee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoogieSnacks It's my pleasure!! Solanin is also a great starting point for Asano's work because it's only 1 volume long, and much more "approachable" for most people than majority of his other works. There is also a short epilogue volume available from the TCAF website (it was a festival exclusive) set several years later. Dead Dead Demons is also very good, but still ongoing.
      Dorohedoro combines so many disparate parts with ease, it's incredible. It's a series where heroes, villains--you love them all! There is also an upcoming anime adaptation for it too.
      Yes, seinen is a very diverse demographic, haha. I think a lot of people immediately think of stuff like Berserk when you say seinen, but titles like Yotsuba!&, Emma and Chi's Sweet Home are all seinen too. Honestly, it makes sense that working men in Japan would want something light, sweet and wholesome to read after the stress of their demanding work. You also mentioned you enjoy romance and shojo!! Lots of my favourite romance series are seinen (especially Emma & A Bride's Story). Have you tried a Josei title yet? It's the "shojo" equivalent to seinen; ie, manga written for adult women vs teenage and younger girls. If not, Princess Jellyfish is very very fun!
      As for light novels, there are so so many being released and licensed all the time!! I recommend Englishlightnovels(dot)com for a fairly comprehensive list. Full disclosure, I also write reviews for them under the name "Gee". Some of my favourites include Baccano, Spice and Wolf, and the recently popular Ascendance of a Bookworm. Isekai (aka, reincarnated in another world) series are very popular right now, but there's plenty of others as well. Most of the time I enjoy light novels vs the manga adaptation, because they are the source material/original work. If you already enjoy an anime that is based off of a light novel, that also might be a good entry point!!
      Nothing beats that new book smell (or old book smell lol), but I find the SJ app is a great way to try series & keep up to date with others. I find it hard to recommend people jumping into buying lots and lots of long shonen sight-unseen, especially as the hype often inflates them, haha. That's an easy way to get overwhelmed quick (and buried under dozens of unread books!!). For a new fan like yourself, the pressure can be daunting to try and read many "nostalgic" series other fans have (Dragon Ball, Naruto, etc), so I think it's nice to have the option to try it without spending hundreds on a series you only think is 'OK'. There are also some great digital-only titles there too.

      @SimplyGee Omg I actually took notes for this comment - so much useful info. You are literally the best - THANK YOU :)
      Okay.
      *makes coffee*
      I googled Solanin. Awesome. Def on my to-buy list. Solid recommendation and just what I'm looking for. Is the short epilogue Solanin 2? I saw that while online..
      I have heard of DDD - tbh I've heard mixed things but I will definitely look it up! I have a feeling Asano's writing style just takes getting used to. Which I kind of like from an author.
      *fun fact*
      My original major in college was an english major before I switched to music and I love writing that makes me re read stuff to fully grasp all of the intricacies inside. Is this what reading Asano's work is like?
      Dorohedoro I just looked up - 100% on the to-buy list. You're really knocking these recommendations out of the park...it's almost as if you're a mangatuber... ;)
      I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know Josei was a word... gosh. Okay so much to learn - so exciting! I have heard you mention in your videos (if memory serves correct quite a lot) - Princess Jellyfish. It's been on my radar now - for sure it's something I would like and I will pick it up! Okay so seinen - makes sense since I'm a working class dude and I want to come home & want something light, sweet, & wholesome when I come home after I make dinner to read. Thank you for that lesson - good to know!
      Regarding the Light Novels - thank you for not actually linking the website - your comment would of been in jeopardy if you did.
      I didn't know you write reviews! I'll have to go check those out :) I didn't know Spice and Wolf was a light novel! I legit had my heart stings pulled during the anime and wanted more... maybe I can get more of that series in Light Novel form?
      FYI...
      Last night... I got the Viz Subscription. :)
      Thank you once again for taking the time for such a beginner as myself. Your writing is very clear, considerate, and easy to understand. Very much appreciated & I'm grateful.
      Cheers from sunny Southern California ~

      @@BoogieSnacks It's no problem! I try to take into account tastes and similar titles when making recommendations so that they are helpful and appropriate. Hopefully some of this useless knowledge I've retained over the years gets some good use, haha. Also, I'm a chatterbox when it comes to manga (as you may have noticed, considering my video lengths), and an English/writing major myself, so the walls of text are my standard😅
      Regarding your question, I'm not quite sure about the Solanin 2 thing... Viz's current release is a 2-in-1 omnibus, so maybe what you found was an older single volume release??🤔 the epilogue itself is simply called Solanin: an epilogue and can only be bought from TCAF's online shop, Page & Panel. It's very short (about 50ish pages) and relatively pricy thanks to being exclusive & having to ship from Canada, so you might want to wait to buy it until you have read the main series and know you love it. As for Asano's work, there is definitely a re-readability for his titles... but I find all of his works are very "mood sensitive"; things you have to be in a particular mindset to enjoy or even want to read. Some of his most popular titles (Goodnight Pun Pun, A Girl on the Shore) are not ones I particularly like or enjoy or recommend for this exact reason--they're intensely depressive, hopeless and nihilistic (in a "being a good person will never reward you in life, you're a fool to think the world cares about you" way). Comparatively, DDD feels a lot more like the millenial/gen z outlook of a nihilistic life (in a "the world is f**ked and we're all gonna die from overwork, so who cares if we all make memes and eat ice cream for dinner. Better than dying without fun" way). In general, his works capture the fatigue of the times, if that makes sense? A similar mangaka would be Shuzo Oshimi.
      I'm glad Dorohedoro was a good recommendation!! It recently finished being published in English, and is criminally underrated. There's a lot of violence and absurdity, but also themes of domesticity and found family. It's a wild ride from start to finish, and the mangaka (Q Hayashida) use to be an [art] assistant on Berserk, so it's no surprise her work is cut from the same cloth, so to speak.
      Josei is a wonderful demographic that has gained some popularity (in the West) over the last few years, mostly in part to Princess Jellyfish. PJ has an anime as well, which I recommend, and is how it gained a somewhat cult following for English-speaking fans before the manga was available to buy. It's funny and immensely relatable for those of us with a passion for a topic/skill/art/etc, even if the characters' own passions are different than your own. Also, personally, as someone with a connection and insight to the fashion industry via family, it's refreshing to see it represented so accurately for once (in manga and elsewhere).
      And as an additional point, all four of the main demographics (shonen, shojo, seinen and josei) are super diverse on themes and genres and storytelling. (There's even been fights about it on Twitter within the community about the importance & relevance they have for modern manga.) You seem to have very diverse tastes as it is, so I don't think you'll have a problem finding titles to enjoy, regardless of demographic!
      Light novels can be great because, understandably, prose allows a lot more detail to be expounded on. Spice and Wolf is a great first choice, and definitely one that will give you more vs the anime!! The second season of the anime ended at around book 5 or 6, if I remember correctly? But the novels are currently ongoing with over 20 books! 17 was the original conclusion to the series, but just recently (for the 10th anniversary) the author started writing more, set 10+ years later. There's also a spin-off series too. I personally think Spice and Wolf got even better after the point where the anime ended, so hopefully you try it out!
      Good luck with the Viz subscription! It's great value and has a crazy amount of content available. There is also the legal (and totally free!!) app Manga Plus, which is owned by Shueisha (the publishing house of shonen jump in Japan). There's a lot of the same titles between the two services thank to SJ, but there are some real hidden gems also available from their other magazines. Let me know if you need any recommendations😉🤣

    I absolutely love your attitude with manga, especially all the excitement!
    I've only got 2 recommendations because I'm also quite new with collecting manga.
    The first is a 1 omnibus release called "All you Need Is kill", which is an awesome psychological war manga with aliens. it's only 1 book, but delivers a really heart felt and violent story.
    The second and last recommendation would be "Dorohedoro", it's one of my favorites because it's a really dark and funny series with some mystery packed in. It has some really surreal and trippy art direction that makes it super unique, and it has a really nice release from viz.
    I've only read around ten series but these 2 were really awesome reads for me, so if you do read them I hope you can enjoy them also!

    Awesome video! After being encouraged by you to give recommendations, I thought I should contribute to this a bit :)). My favourite series of all time are attack on titan, haikyuu and vinland saga. Aot is a shounen/seinen(especially in later volumes)and haikyuu is a sports shounen. I would highly recommend these two. As for shoujo, I recently finished Ao haru ride, which I really enjoyed. A silent voice is another great series (and short, only 7 volumes). Also, you should check out one punch man, a really good shounen comedy.

    • @BoogieSnacks
      @BoogieSnacks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the spirt! Thank you so much for the recommendations. I've heard SO MUCH about Haikyuu - I for sure in an upcoming manga haul will have that series make an appearance :)
      Yes 100% Attack on Titan is something I need to get into. I saw the first two season and absolutely loved it. From what I hear the manga is just crazy good. I'm probably just going to make one big purchase and just get everything that is out soon.
      I really like your taste in manga!
      I have to say I have yet to hear of Ao Haru Ride - which is exciting since I'm always looking for another good shojo to get into. I'm def going to google that one tonight.
      A Silent Voice - I actually have gotten quite a few recommendations regarding this one - and somene even said that rightstuf has a decently priced boxed set. For sure I'm going to get into that one!
      Ah One Punch Man - I hear nothing but great things - but I've also heard it's better once you've read a good amount of manga since a lot of the comedy are inside jokes in the community (just in general) or mocking/playing on huge tropes/series in the community! So maybe once I get a few more under my belt i'll dive into One Punch Man!
      Thanks for watching ~

    • @tinadaisy0307

      @@BoogieSnacks Yes, you can get the boxset for a silent voice, I'm pretty sure it's cheaper that way.(I'm don't really know tbh because I'm from eastern Europe and in my country manga is pretty hard to obtain and also pretty expensive.) But again, I've also heard that it's cheaper that way so go ahead :).
      Regarding Opm, yes, I think it's a bit too early for you to get into it, because like you've said, there are a lot of jokes for people in the community and you might just not get them yet. But it's definitely a series you can get into in the future once you've read a decent amount of manga (especially shounen). Also, thanks:) Glad you like my taste.

      @@BoogieSnacks Haha that'd great to hear that i may be introducing you to these legends.
      Taniguchi is a step back from the typical manga in that most of his stories focus on landscapes and art where the stories simply appreciate everyday life. If i had to recommend one of his stories it would be Summit of the Gods (A story about climbing Mount Everest, 5 vols) or if you want a slightly more action packed historical story check out Sky Hawk (Japanese Samurai in USA 1800s during native american reduction, 1 vol). The beauty with Taniguchi is that most of his works in english are 1-2 volumes with exception of Summit of the Gods.
      Matsumoto's stories are very character driven stories. He has a few works published in English, Sunny (5 or 6 vols), Cats of the Louvre (1 vol), Tekkonkinkreet (1 vol) and few others which are harder to come across.
      If you were going for Taniguchi and want something more action packed go for Sky Hawk. If you decide to go for Matsumoto, go for Cats of the Louvre, recent hardcover high quality release by Viz and a fantastic story about cats living in the Louvre museum.

    Great picks! You won't be disappointed by Vinland Saga, but I have yet to purchase and read 20th Century Boys. I would reccommend checking out Vagabond (it's a historical seinen kind of similiar to Vinland Saga) and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (it's hard to describe it). I'd suggest picking up part 1 (3 volumes) and volume 1 (of 4) of part 2 before you make a decision if you'll collect and read the series or not. Part 1 is not bad but it's kind of slow and even boring at times, but part 2 is where the pace, action and comedy get a lot better and it gets only better from there to the next parts! As for Vagabond it's pretty intriguing to see the saga of Miyamoto Musashi and how he develops as (both) a person and a swordsman and it gets pretty philosophical at times!

It's divided into parts (they are all connected) and each part changes the setting and the genre of the story (though they all have a lot of action and colorful casts of characters) which makes it refreshing and it never gets boring. It's a classic and in my opinion the most original and unique series in the Shonen genre.

    i’m seconding the dorohedoro recommendations! if you want more adult manga recommendations, my absolute favourite is golden kamuy. it’s hilarious and i love all the characters so much!!
    i also recommend gambling apocalypse: kaiji. it’s finally getting a physical release next month. from what i’ve read so far, i feel like the anime has better pacing, but it’s still great :^ )

    Volume 11 of Vinland Saga comes out December 3 (was originally for this month). Makoto also did Planetes before Vinland. It's a sci fi space series about a guy and his crew that clean up debris around Earth. They're the only works done by Makoto. It's seinen you're thinking of. For me personally I read through 20th Century Boys and was very disappointed with it especially with all the high praise it has. With Berserk you definitely want the deluxe volumes. The single volumes have issues with words/art being cropped out and the deluxe volumes are bigger so they can show off the art so much better. Berserk is up to volume 40 and still on going and honestly the author will probably never finish it at this rate. Yen is the worst manga publisher when it comes to prices/page count. Maid-sama is great although it does have tropes and such a lot of people don't like nowadays. As for videos keep going with manga hauls. You can do reviews which you said you would for Vinland, but you could also do for w/e anime you're watching.

    • @BoogieSnacks
      @BoogieSnacks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once again - thank you for taking the time to respond this thoroughly. This is such an amazing comment and you hit so many points from the video.
      Okay let's get into it.
      Good to know about Vinland Saga! I'll have to preorder that if it's not to late! Yes - someone in the comment section JUST told me about PLANETES. From my understanding it's a 2 omnibus complete series - and it's for sure on my to-check-out list next time I'm out shopping for manga.
      I knew it was Seinen!
      Ohhhh. Okay we'll I'll have to see if I can return these copies and go with the Berserk Deluxe volumes for sure. You're not the only one to bring those up! I certainly hope the author finishes the series - I hear nothing but good things! Is the author old or have health problems? Why wouldn't the author finish it? Is it a HunterXHunter situation happening here?
      You know - I like how you phrased that - worst publisher for price/page count. I don't know enough to personally agree with that statement - but I did notice that Yen had very skinny books in this haul compared to others.. I'm okay with thin if it it has regular scheduled releases! Good to know - and it is unfortunate they make the volumes so skinny for full retail price.
      Yes - expect more content - I will be trying a few different types of videos soon so expect some experimentation on that channel regarding those. :)
      Thanks for watching ~

    • @Thoremac
      @Thoremac 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BoogieSnacks With the author of Berserk, Miura, we don't know exactly why, but he goes on hiatus all the time. Idk about his health, but he's getting up there in age. The series started back in '89. It's been a long time. I have all the single volumes (plus the guidebook and novel, don't get those until you've caught up on the series because of spoilers) because this was before anyone knew it would get a deluxe version. Nobody thought it ever would. I'm sticking with both because it's gonna take years for the deluxe to get caught up with the singles. For you idk how you feel about it. You could just stick to the deluxe volumes as they come out, but then you'll have to wait years to catch up with the story. If you're wanting to catch up however you'll have to either stick with the singles or get both if you're willing to double down. With Yen they like to price things the same no matter the size while other publishers will have some difference in size and price although even with them and some series it's like Yen. I'd love to have more Yen manga, but they're just too expensive most of the time for my taste.

    • @Thoremac
      @Thoremac 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoogieSnacks Also if you want to you could just buy the first deluxe volume and compare it to the first 3 single volumes to see the difference and decide how you want to go about it. You could do a video about it.

    • @BoogieSnacks
      @BoogieSnacks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thoremac You know I think it's so unfortunate that a good handful of these manga creators go on hiatus all the time. Something tells me it's the strenuous work environment in Japan (but I could be wrong).
      So it's sort of a tough choice here! I googled the deluxe editions - they seem GREAT and aren't that bad in price. That being said for sure I'm the type of dude that would want to continue reading everything that is out... (once I get into a series). I'll have to think about how to go about this since doubling down on the series would require a lot of just space in general haha.
      Personally - do you just collect the deluxe? If so, are you not current with the series?
