In the void there are a lot of codes and timelines that messes up Gaster and made him insane. In Glitchtale, him being defeated made him rethink of his mistakes during the battle in Glitchtale S1E2(Yet Darker}. Which is why in S1E4(Your Best Friend), Gaster had no intention to harm Frisk.
