Thanks for sharing this Tableau tutorial - I just completed the whole thing. It would have been nice if you were to show the whole process from start to finish, including making the dashboard more presentable. Another thing would be, some of the cuts and edits you made in the video skip a few of the minor details. All and all, I learned a good amount from such a short video thanks.

Awesome video. Helped a lot. I will say it was fast paced, be nice to explain a bit of the steps, and even how you formatted the last dashboard. 18 Min video I had to slow down to .50 speed
Glad it helps and thanks for the feedback, will keep in mind for next videos 👍also make sure to check part 2 on my channel where I cover the formatting and other bits
Really good video. Very easy to follow. Only one thing.. at the end you didn't show how you made each section bigger so it's more readable and presentable. That would've been really helpful!
Thanks a lot for the feedback 😉 make sure to check part 2 of this video (link in description) where I go into more detail on the formatting side of the dashboard 👍
@@loresowhat You are welcome. I just had 1 question. Does the file type make any difference after connecting the data? Great video but I wish you showed how you edited the final dashboard for aesthetic just to show the entire creating process. Think it would be helpful so that we can see and then add our own style to our dashboard. Overall though amazing and thanks for the project!
Thanks for the superb walk through. Took time out to follow along and I feel great about the skills I have learned. Had some trouble with the calculated field for the "Selected Start & End" dates. Not sure if my version called for different syntax, but I kept getting errors. I did try a few other ways to solve the problem but I was unsuccessful. Hi Lore, this video is really helpful and I was able to create my very first Tableau dashboard project thanks to you. That being said, could you do a Tableau video on storytelling as well? Data Analyst recruiters in where I'm from also like to emphasize this skill and I feel it would be great if you did a video on this too
Thank you so much for your content and absolutely, I can do something around storytelling. Can you expand a bit more what would you like me to cover about that?
@@loresowhat I'd be happy with anything that covers the use of storytelling in Tableau, like maybe continuing on the dashboard you made in this video to include Tableau storytelling. But if you think that there may be other topics more suitable to showcase Tableau storytelling, I'm okay with that too (like using sales or marketing data for example)
Please help, I changed the alignment of text (for fully vaccinated people) to center but the value isn't going to the center of the blue bar like yours. How do I make the values display at the center of blue bar??
Great tutorial, short and to the point! One question: A couple of countries (Like Gibraltar and Tokelau) have a vaccination rate above 100%. You reckon it would be best to simply not include those countries, or do you have any data-cleaning recommendation for this?
well spotted Kris, that is definitely a data quality issue so because we are not owning the dataset that is powering this dashboard, I would just remove those countries. In an ideal world you would reach out to the data owner and ask to fix those issues...
Love the video, quick question I'm having trouble changing the format into a percentage at the 5:38 mark. I was wondering if I need to hit a hotkey or if I am doing something incorrectly. Would appreciate any help. Thank you!
I also had trouble with this, I changed Numbers listed under the 'Default' heading rather than under 'Totals' (Should be just above 'Totals' in the Side Pane)

One of the best data visualization on youtube. Actually I just want to know the source of dataset. I mean if I want search for other datasets as well, it may help. So please tell me what's the source.
Sure so we calculated the share of people vaccinated right? This is a percentage and so if you 1 - that percentage we will get the share of people NOT vaccinated. Let me know if this makes sense
Dear Lore, thanks for the amazing tutorial. You must have put a lot of work in to that, but it's really helpful. One question though, regarding the data sample - is it accurate or just some test data set. I ask because you get for Gibraltar 120% vaccinated peeps, when actually 100% should be the limit (9:09 min)?
thanks a lot for your comment and good question! the dataset has some data quality issue and this is why Gibraltar is off cause as you said 100% should be the limit
@@loresowhat I just checked the original dataset, I think it happens because the num of 'people vaccinated' and 'population' are changed with the day, you can't simply use the max(people vaccinated)/max(population) cause the max value may not at the same day. Maybe the most important thing for Data Analytics should be to figure out the right definition of the indicator and display the correct number. Anyway, thanks a lot for your video, it's really helpful to me 😁
Well done part with dataviz, but why use trend line and not cluster? Cluster seems better here, cause we don't need trends, we need to understand is there any correlation (and without regression models the only viz in tableu is cluster i guess to see this). And do u planning on some comparison videos in dataviz? Like tableu vs. others or even tableu vs. python ;) This would be great to see )
Yep agree that clustering could be a good option here 👍 and I will definitely have a think about a video with a viz tools comparison, thanks for the tip 😊
With the rise of thoughspot and similar self-reporting tools, is there still any point in learning Tableau or older dashboarding tools? Also work life balance for data analysts isn't that great since they constantly have 3 month deadlines for projects and are allocated to multiple projects (similar to a consulting environment)
These are great questions!! For the first one, it depends where you work as big companies will always use tools like Tableau that are great at scale and reliable. Self-reporting tools still need to prove themselves in such workplaces. And regarding work-life balance, this is more about the company culture rather than the data analyst role. Many people choose to be a data analyst for the great flexibility it can give you but this only applies if the company will allow that flexibility 😉
Hello Lore. I just completed watching your amazing video and you made it look effortless. Kudos. Is there any way you can also share which site you got this dataset from? Thank you
thanks for your amazing tutorial ! just wanna ask why the rate is over 100% on the 9:09 ? and looks correctly in 09:24 😂did you do something to correct the value or?
I just checked the original dataset, I think it happens because the num of 'people vaccinated' and 'population' are changed with the day, you can't simply use the max(people vaccinated)/max(population) cause the max value may not at the same day. Maybe the most important thing for Data Analytics should be to figure out the right definition of the indicator and display the correct number. Hi, great video. I made a fantastic dashboard by following this video, which is available on my tableau public account. I wanted to give credit to you but tableau is not accepting your video link. I don't know what to do. but many thanks for the amazing video.
Good point, I had to exclude Gibraltar from the dashboard since I had a % of vaccinated >100% (which is obviously an error and I presume it is a data quality issue of the dataset - I didn’t have time to check that). The way to exclude it is simply by adding “location” to filters and select all but “Gibraltar”. Hope this helps and well spotted 😉
@@tradersadda7297there might be some locations with missing information for vaccinated people and I wouldn’t worry about that. Often datasets are not 100% clean and in a work environment you would note those to your client and see what they would suggest👍
Hey!! First of all thanks for your tutorial which was super fast and to the point without wasting any time. I have a question to ask, in your chart 4 (Vacc vs Fully Vaccinated per Location), the field, Share of People Partially Vaccinated should be less than Share of People Fully Vaccinated. If we take example of Cuba which has 61% are fully vaccinated and 86% partially vaccinated. It shouldn't be 86% for partially vaccinated, it should be 86 - 61 which is 25% for partially vaccinated. Can we fix that?
Hey, thank you so much for your comment😀 I got your point but I think the calculations are actually correct as the Share of People Partially Vaccinated should be always higher than Share of People Fully Vaccinated (the latter is a subset of the former). The reason is that there are people who will get only one dose of vaccine (partially vaccinated) without getting the second one (fully vaccinated). Let's do an example with 10 people (total population) and let's say that 5 people had one dose and, among those 5, only 2 had the second dose too. In this case, we would have 50% partially vaccinated and 20% fully vaccinated. Let me know if this makes sense.
@@loresowhat Hey Lore, I know you must be busy, so it would be great if you could answer my question whenever you are free. I can't seem to find 'True' value for my field 'Filter Selected Date' at 14:06 I can only see 'False' value available. I used the same calculation as you showed in your video.
Appreciate your tutorials! Just a quick question. I'm trying to replicate the project but at 9:14 Some percentages are over 100%, how did you fix this? There's something I need to do with the data?
Thank you very much for the walkthrough tutorial, Lore! What should we do about the null values? When I excluded them at dashboard page, the statistics changed dramatically.
you can keep them and add in the project description your rationale and assumptions so it's clear that you made considerations for those isntead of ignoring them
hey I mainly get them from Kaggle (by the way you might want to check out my instagram or tiktok @loresowhat cause I talk about datasets sources there too). I usually take the raw format from there and do a bit of cleaning if needed yes 👍
@@loresowhat awesome, I would follow you on those socials but unfortunately I don't partake in them. If you were to do a video on cleaning the data etc that would be fantastic! Keep up the good work friend
Could anyone help with around 14:01 mark he talks about creating the filter for the worksheet I copy te calculation just like he did but when bringing the table over I don't have a (true ) option just a False and I have deleted and done this again and its still not showing me a (true option)
Thanks for inspiring advice! And (I don't know why my comment disappeared, I'll just try writing once again) I would like to ask where you usually showcase your projects! Not asking exact link or address. Just wanted to know, because I am also building projects myself and I often wonder, if recruiters would actually visit the portfolio project websites of mine. 🤔
thanks for the comment and good question! you might want to check out this video where I use one of the best tools to host and share your portfolio th-cam.com/video/pafzoMuGWVs/w-d-xo.html
Loved the video! Learned a lot. I have a question however, for the calculated field of percentage of unvaccinated people starting from 4:58, you did 1- (the percentage of people with one shot). Shouldn't it be 1- ((the percentage of people with one shot) + (the percentage of people who are fully vaccinated))? Thank you for your time!!!!!
Hey good question 👍 with that calculation that you proposed you are double-counting people because the ones fully vaccinated will also be within the ones with one shot only (the first is a subset of the second). Let me know if this makes sense 👍
Correct me if I'm mistaken but isn't KPI 1 wrong right off the bat? According to the data source, but the measure people vaccinated = total number of people who received at least one vaccine dose. Therefore, people partially vaccinated = people fully vaccinated - people vaccinated
thank you for sharing this video ... i have doubt in people vacinated measure. why we using maximum instead of sum ? sum is total number of vacinate people right ?
thanks for your comment - good question and the reason for that is that the dataset is cumulative and so row 2 includes data of row 1 and so on. if you have time to double-check, if you use the sum you will see a massive number.

This is very inspiring.
thanks, this means a lot!!
This is nice. I think even a newbie can do this. But can i practice this using tableau public? Thanks
absolutely, you should be able to do most of it in Tableau Public
I am from Indonesia. Thanks for your video.
love your country!! I've been to Bali twice this year
Hello Lore. I just completed watching your amazing video and you made it look effortless. Kudos. Is there any way you can also share which site you got this dataset from? Thank you
really appreciate your comment - I got the data from here ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations
Amazing video...👍
Thank you 👍
thanks for your amazing tutorial ! just wanna ask why the rate is over 100% on the 9:09 ? and looks correctly in 09:24 😂did you do something to correct the value or?
I just checked the original dataset, I think it happens because the num of 'people vaccinated' and 'population' are changed with the day, you can't simply use the max(people vaccinated)/max(population) cause the max value may not at the same day.
Maybe the most important thing for Data Analytics should be to figure out the right definition of the indicator and display the correct number.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your video, it's really helpful to me 😁
glad you sorted it even before I saw your comment ahah
Thank you so much. It is vert helpful.
Glad to hear that 😉
Hi, great video. I made a fantastic dashboard by following this video, which is available on my tableau public account. I wanted to give credit to you but tableau is not accepting your video link. I don't know what to do. but many thanks for the amazing video.
Thanks a lot for your comment and glad it helps😊
in sheet 4 @9:14 when you changed the format to percentage how the first location Gibraltor got lost in your sheet
also the yellow bar is not coming for every location like yours
Good point, I had to exclude Gibraltar from the dashboard since I had a % of vaccinated >100% (which is obviously an error and I presume it is a data quality issue of the dataset - I didn’t have time to check that). The way to exclude it is simply by adding “location” to filters and select all but “Gibraltar”. Hope this helps and well spotted 😉
and it is showing 8 nulls at the bottom right corner what to do about it
@@tradersadda7297there might be some locations with missing information for vaccinated people and I wouldn’t worry about that. Often datasets are not 100% clean and in a work environment you would note those to your client and see what they would suggest👍
@@loresowhat yeah I did the same
Can you do an ETL project next?
good idea!!!
it's very useful video, thx!
You're welcome!
@@loresowhat Ah I see, Now I understand. Thanks a lot, man! I wasn't expecting you would reply so fast. You are the best. 😁
@@loresowhat Hey Lore, I know you must be busy, so it would be great if you could answer my question whenever you are free. I can't seem to find 'True' value for my field 'Filter Selected Date' at 14:06 I can only see 'False' value available. I used the same calculation as you showed in your video.
@@saifshaikh3191 hey can you send me a pic on instagram @loresowhat so I can better understand the issue?
Appreciate your tutorials! Just a quick question. I'm trying to replicate the project but at 9:14 Some percentages are over 100%, how did you fix this? There's something I need to do with the data?
hey Diego, you can just hide those values as there are data quality issues - obv it cannot be >100%
Thank you very much for the walkthrough tutorial, Lore! What should we do about the null values? When I excluded them at dashboard page, the statistics changed dramatically.
you can keep them and add in the project description your rationale and assumptions so it's clear that you made considerations for those isntead of ignoring them
Hey Lore, great video. I'm just wondering where do you get your datasets from? and do you clean them? thank you
hey I mainly get them from Kaggle (by the way you might want to check out my instagram or tiktok @loresowhat cause I talk about datasets sources there too). I usually take the raw format from there and do a bit of cleaning if needed yes 👍
@@loresowhat awesome, I would follow you on those socials but unfortunately I don't partake in them. If you were to do a video on cleaning the data etc that would be fantastic! Keep up the good work friend
Can you help me; the bars doesn’t display after dragging both the KPI to Column Field.
Yeah sure you can text me on instagram at loresowhat
Great job!!!
Thanks for watching😊
Where can we get the updated data set? In the case we want to do this viz with data as today? Did you cleaned it?
Thank you in advance! Keep the good work!
@@RodrigoPmtz this was a dataset that I got online so I'm not able to update it
Could anyone help with around 14:01 mark he talks about creating the filter for the worksheet I copy te calculation just like he did but when bringing the table over I don't have a (true ) option just a False and I have deleted and done this again and its still not showing me a (true option)
did you manage to sort this?
Thanks for inspiring advice! And (I don't know why my comment disappeared, I'll just try writing once again) I would like to ask where you usually showcase your projects! Not asking exact link or address. Just wanted to know, because I am also building projects myself and I often wonder, if recruiters would actually visit the portfolio project websites of mine. 🤔
thanks for the comment and good question! you might want to check out this video where I use one of the best tools to host and share your portfolio th-cam.com/video/pafzoMuGWVs/w-d-xo.html
@@loresowhat just checked it out and the platform you recommend seems awesome! Thank you again!
@@yeonkyungseo1279 glad it was helpful 😉
Loved the video! Learned a lot. I have a question however, for the calculated field of percentage of unvaccinated people starting from 4:58, you did 1- (the percentage of people with one shot). Shouldn't it be 1- ((the percentage of people with one shot) + (the percentage of people who are fully vaccinated))? Thank you for your time!!!!!
Hey good question 👍 with that calculation that you proposed you are double-counting people because the ones fully vaccinated will also be within the ones with one shot only (the first is a subset of the second). Let me know if this makes sense 👍
@@loresowhat Thanks! That’s clear!
when I change it to bar char the seem to overlap the layers and it doesnt show it like your what am I doing wrong?
can you text me on instagram, very hard to help here
Thanks for sharing, great tutorial! Just out of curiosity, where is the data originally from?
hey Sebastian, it's from this website (highly recommended for other datasets too ) ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations
@@loresowhat thanks!
Correct me if I'm mistaken but isn't KPI 1 wrong right off the bat?
According to the data source, but the measure people vaccinated = total number of people who received at least one vaccine dose.
Therefore, people partially vaccinated = people fully vaccinated - people vaccinated
I define people partially vaccinated the ones with one dose only, so still vaccinated if that makes sense
thank you for sharing this video ... i have doubt in people vacinated measure. why we using maximum instead of sum ? sum is total number of vacinate people right ?
thanks for your comment - good question and the reason for that is that the dataset is cumulative and so row 2 includes data of row 1 and so on. if you have time to double-check, if you use the sum you will see a massive number.
