On Tuesday, September 19, C. Shane Reese will be inaugurated as the 14th president of BYU. President Reese has long served the BYU community: as a statistics professor, a dean, and the academic vice president. But if it weren’t for the early intervention of a kind mentor, President Reese’s storied BYU career might have ended before it had begun.
Watch our new Inspiring Short to see the touching story of how a lonely and discouraged first-year student found his way at BYU with the help of a young law professor-and how two future BYU presidents were forever changed in the process.
Please join the BYU community in welcoming President C. Shane Reese by watching the inauguration ceremony, broadcast on BYUtv at 11:00 a.m. MDT.

Beautiful! He is a great leader. My “freshman moment” happened in 1982 as I walked outside from a difficult class in the MARB and felt this BYU experience would be above my abilities. Then the Carillon Bell Tower played the notes, Come come ye saints, no toil nor labor fear, all is well, all is well. At that moment the Spirit witnessed to me that I can do this! I went on to meet and marry my beloved wife of 40 years there and our three daughters graduated from BYU Provo. When the Spirit provides a witness - it is all that is needed.

I love how God sets up these miraculous non-coincidences, often years in advance. Real life events like this increase my faith in God's goodness and omniscience. Great video.

What an awesome tribute to President and Sister Worthen! I have loved them and what they have done. I can’t wait to get to ‘know’ President and Sister Reese and see how they continue to make BYU amazing!!

Love this! I had my own inspiring and confidence-building encounter with a man I didn't even recognize at the time--George Durrant--when I was a tiny freshman fish in a very huge BYU pond. President Worthen and President Reese--and all the presidents before them--are at once great men and humble servants of God. So grateful for their inspired and inspiring leadership.

@@byuspeeches If we could only spend the time to think of similar, but perhaps less dramatic situations in our own lives of people who have been influential for good.
