      Mr. Rogues this is a weird request but I would really want you to make a top 5 best decade for DC. There are so many comics, movies, and shows about these stories but when was the best time for them?

    Kind of ironic how Luthor's baldness is seen as his most iconic visual aspect when you consider it actually started out as an artistic error.

      It's like how The Hulk was originally grey before Stan Lee changed him to green and the grey Hulk became a split personality of Bruce Banner's.

    • @mediabaron2416
      @mediabaron2416 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@sarafontanini7051 Yeah. In his first appearance, Luthor had a full head of red hair. But when drawing the Superman newspaper strip, the artist got Luthor mixed up with his own bald henchman, Lupo, and ended up drawing Luthor as bald. And for whatever reason, it stuck.
      Similar thing happened with Wolverine's mask. The artist for the cover to Giant Sized X-Men #1 accidentally drew the black eye parts of his mask much bigger than they were in the character's original appearance in the Incredible Hulk. But they ended up liking how the new mask looked and kept it.

    9:27 Lex does have points about what would happen if Superman went evil. Problem is he only thinks that out of jealousy not because it would actually happen. He thinks Superman would try to rule over humanity because that's what Lex would do if he had Superman's powers. And he doesn't like people relying on Superman because he wants them to rely on him. In one comic when a computer worked out that Clark Kent was Superman Lex destroyed it and fired its programmer because he refused to believe that someone with Superman's powers would live a normal life because again if Lex had Superman's powers he wouldn't do that.

    Ah, I love Lex. Be it Pre-Crisis or Post-Crisis, Luthor is just a fun villain. However, I think that the DCAU version of Lex is the only one so far to find the perfect place for him; let him be a dangerously efficient businessperson for a few years before he's finally taken down & forced into a more Mad Scientist-like role, leading Injustice Gangs & Legions of Doom front-and-centre, all while his myriad of gadgets are being produced through shell companies and underground labs that're funded by whatever puppet he's using as a CEO this week.
    The thing is that I actually vastly prefer Lex as a corperate tycoon both because it ties back to Superman's Golden Age roots as an anti-corperate crusader for justice & that making the American Alien's arch-nemesis a rich White dude who sees him as a threat to American democracy's just thematically perfect. Say what you will about the early Post-Crisis years for Clark himself, but Lex definitely benefitted from the revamping of the Super-Mythos.
    Still, even I can't deny the appeal of seeing him fly about in his Warsuit shooting out Kryptonite Rays at Superman.

    • @princepagan
      @princepagan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I love the dcau lex. I’m just getting into the comics, are there any that are more closely akin to that version? The mix business man/mad scientist

    • @dannybuckle3763
      @dannybuckle3763 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@princepagan I guess the Post-presidency-to-Flashpoint years (mid-2000s to 2011) would count? I don't know to be honest; like I said, the DCAU balanced out Lex's two selves spectacularly, and the comics, being a mess of conflicting idea by their very nature, don't really get to do that.

    Great list Rogues. One of my favourite Luthor stories is Black Ring. Lex goes around the DC universe, looking for remnants of the black lantern rings in order to harness their power for his own use. Along the way, Lex confronts Mr Mind, Grodd and Even Death from Sandman. It is an awesome story that focuses on Lex and his obsession with gaining more power. It also features an android version of Lois as Lex's bodyguard/girlfriend.

    For me, my favorite luthor story is actually the crossover event, Forever Evil. Lex is actually trying to save the world from the Crime syndicate, the evil version of the Justice League. I still prefer Lex as a clear cut villain, but this one was awesome as far as Lex is concerned. Your number one pick has a "Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow" feel to it. So, since it kind of reminds me of that story, which is my all time favorite Superman story, I might want to check this out.

    Lex Luthor is Superman's greatest foe of course, but I really like the stories you have of him from him being the mad scientist who wants to end the Man of Steel, but who shares why his hatred of Superman has gone out, and decides to change his character in the face of good. I really think of course like you said that Lex should be an ally of Superman, instead of being his greatest rival, and they should team up against other of Superman's common rogues like Brainiac or General Zod, that would be cool and heroic. Maybe for the next top 5 stories, you should make one on Bizarro, since he is my favorite Superman villain. Thank You again.

    As I recall, Lex's motivations for hating Superman were enunciated prior to Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, early in John Byrne's run, because those reasons sounded familiar despite my never having read that miniseries.
    My five favorite Luthor stories (not necessarily in order; sorry I can't remember all the titles):
    5. The first Planet Lexor story (the June 1963 Superman), where Luthor lets Superman win a hand-to-hand fight so Superman can save the planet they've landed on
    4. The Man Who Murdered the Earth (Superman 248, Feb. 1972); first appearance of the Galactic Golem
    3. The Intruder in the Fortress of Solitude (the December 1971 Action Comics); Luthor is really villainous in this story
    2. The Most Dangerous Door in the World (Superman, May(?) 1969); Luthor becomes obsessed with opening a mysterious vault
    1. Superman 2 (1987), where a scientist in Luthor's employ discovers Superman's identity and Luthor doesn't believe her
    For a chuckle, read the Superman Giants from the '60s and early '70s and see how stories there are where Superman unwittingly hands Luthor something because Luthor is wearing a disguise.

    2. Superman: Last son
    3. JLA: Rock of ages
    4. Superman: Up Up and away

He had even made an appearance in Krypto The Super Dog where he had a pet iguana who got his claws on a growth ray that Lex Corp built and uses it on a caterpillar so he could eat it! Lexy would not like it if he found out that his own pet iguana was the one responsible for unleashing a giant caterpillar upon Metropolis!

    (rubs hands together) The only arch-nemesis from comics perhaps more overrated than the Joker, yet somehow still my favorite from his respective Rogues Gallery! I don't know what it is that makes me like arch-enemies almost by default so often, but...(shrugs)
    Anyway, let's take a peek.
    Dark Victory - First of all, love the jokes. XD Second of all, I actually DO remember this one! I'm not sure I'd put it in my Top 5, but it MIGHT be in my Top 10. Might be. Hard to say. I like seeing Luthor essentially stripped to his bare bones and being forced to basically have a battle of charisma with a guy almost literally named "charisma." He's got to come at this as a human and a man of brains and brawn rather than a scientist or a businessman. It almost plays out like a spy story at times, which is pretty unique.
    The Einstein Connection - I have nothing to add in this case. I think it goes without saying this is one of the greats.
    Unauthorized Biography - This would almost definitely be in my top three as well. This is mostly because it really, REALLY feels like a film noir story to me. The story, the characters, the artwork...honestly, it feels like something from the 40s or 50s, when film noir crime stories were at their peak. And I know you make reference to that in the video, I'm not saying it's something you didn't point; I'm just stating that it's the primary reason this one is such a classic to me. Because, at least with the more modern day Lex, when you get down to it...that's the kind of character he IS. Once Superman's out of the equation, he's basically either a Bond Villain or a gangster film antagonist. And seeing him going up essentially not against the Man of Steel, or even someone like Krisma, but just the guy on the street is pretty fascinating. It's sort of like the Luthor version of "Joker's Favor."
    Man of Steel - Again, definitely in my top three; I'm tempted to say it might even be my number one. The keyword is TEMPTED; I'm actually not sure, believe it or not.
    Luthor's Last Stand - ...Wow. After four in a row that I knew and loved, your fifth and final one is the one story I've never read, never even HEARD of, somehow...and now I'm pretty sure my top three, or at least my top five, would have to change, JUST from your description. O_O
    You know, if you keep giving me comics to check out ASAP, I'm eventually going to have a list that stretches to the floor. XD
    ANYWAY, great wor,k as always!

    Hey Rouges if you still Need some ideas for Spooktober I have found some characters that might interest you.Shauna Belzer(The third Ventriliquist, the meta human that has sortha magneto powers but not really and who thinks that her dummy is her brother. She first appeared in Batgirl 20 in July 2013)Alex Merkel(the daughter of Ragdoll, she´s sorta like Black Mask with her real face being just a mask(the rest of her origin will probably be censored by TH-cam sooo) she first appeared in Secret Six Vol 3 issue 1 in 2008)The creature from 20.000 fathoms( have you seen the movie with the same Name.....yeah that´s what i could gather it first appeared in Batman 104 (right in between the Alien Batman decade(that is the scary part))the Ogre(a forgotten Batman villain that only appeared in one Comic, he´s a man that was researched by scientists to be the missing link in humanity, he finds an ape that was also "tested" on and then hunts down the doctors that turned him into the Ogre(kinda reminds me of Basked Case) he first appeared in Batman 535 in 1995)The Creature that devoured Detroid(d.....do I really Need to eplain what this Thing does…...well it would be another forgotten Aquaman Rouge and you haven´t really covered one of his Rouges in a while, it first appeared in Aquaman 56)Edward Hallen(………………..now look yeah i know it´s the most requested thing that i asked on your channel, but look it´s an okay Jeckl and Hyde character that is in one Story that will forever be stuck in the PSA region of Comics, but i like it and so did DC appearently since his comics cover is on the third Alen Grant and Norm Breyfogl detective Comics volume, he appeared in detective Comics 594)So uhm if you still don´t have that many characters planned for octobre maybe use some of these characters.

      I think a combination would work, but less criminal kingpin and more just shady businessman and mad scientist

    • @VonWenk
      @VonWenk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not like shady businessman and criminal scientist are mutually. Luthor had people working for him, but he was still the driving force behind Lexcorp's projects. The Alan Moore Swamp Thing issue where he sent Swamp Thing into space, I think, is a good example. Plus, even as a kid, his becoming a major villain because he blamed Superboy for his hair loss seemed like a stupid motivation. I'm not a fan of the gaudy super headhunter suit or the armor either.

    • @hiramdoup524
      @hiramdoup524 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VonWenk the "shady businessman" is too cliche. As I said he became a Kingpin clone. Also he was better when he did the work himself rather than forcing others to do it. His motives may have been lame , but, that didn't stop him from being interesting
