I love Paul’s consistency to the churches that he’s overseeing and mentoring. His plea for how we need to represent Christ to our communities even when, or especially when, the culture is going against the grain of Christ’s teaching. Whether an elder, a bishop, pastor, etc. or not, I think that as believers and followers of Christ, it is so important for us to reflect His character as best as we can. People are looking to Christian’s as guides and mentors as they determine whether or not this life is one they should/could do, and how many times do I misrepresent His goodness and grace? My actions and behaviors may be the only gospel someone sees, and if I’m not acting in a way that honors Him, it could be the nail in someone’s belief coffin. Grace. Grace. Grace! Grace is always on my mind. I know it’s something I don’t deserve. I know it’s something I struggle sometimes to have for others. This week in first grade, we are writing snowman stories. My example writing that I modeled with/for my firsty babes is about Grace the Snow Girl. I am trying to keep Grace at the forefront of my brain and extend it as often as I can. What a great reminder in Titus 2! Chapter 3 is one that I have an “oh yes, yikes this is a hard task!” Note next to! Yes! My big prayer is to show humility and I have an awful time doing so, especially in disagreements. I can really ball up and react rather than respond! Maybe that’s what He’s placing more and more opportunities in front of me to practice that grace and humility! 🤣 If at first I don’t succeed, pray, pray, and try again! I must continue to strive and aim for humility and peace as I yearn to live a life that honors Him and shines His light to all those around me. Have a blessed day, my fellow readers! 12 more days until we can say we completed TBR in 2024! I’m excited for 2025 and year 3 for me!
God is good. The word good stood out to me in the reading today. We are to teach what is good (Titus 2:3); be eager to do what is good (Titus 2:14); be ready to do whatever is good (Titus 3:1); and be careful and learn to devote ourselves to what is good (Titus 3:8,14).
Aloha, praise the Lord, and good morning BR family. With the all of the uncertainties we are experiencing today, it's easy to forget who is in control--politician, No! GOD is. Paul teaches us our guidelines to Christian living is to live what you believe; aim for humility, peace and rebuke those who don't. Don't forget who is in charge of us all; it's Savior Jesus Christ and He is where the JOY is!!!
I don't have a desire or calling to do missionary work, but I want to help and support those who do. They are doing God's work! God spoke to me today in this passage. Titus 3:13-14 NIV "Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need. Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives." I love that God asks us to help others who are doing good works, especially for God and the Church. I see God presenting me with opportunities to help, and I am so thankful He gives me the ability to help. God is good! Let's all find ways to spread God's love, humility and JOY!
I have been doing the bible recap all year in 2023. Old and New... I have had my eyes open to so many things. My current move is to find a Christ following Church and to get baptized, and to become a better follower of Christ. Please pray for me.
Check out Red Rocks Church, Church of the Highlands, or Life Church, as they all have Christ-centered campuses throughout the country. And I am praying for you!
My God shot is Titus 3:5. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." My prayer is that I would always know that I didn't change myself but that God has done a great work in me (and continues to) to continually sanctify me.
“Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time. If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them.” Titus 3:9-10 NLT I love this advice from Paul a lot, as I find it very applicable to our current time. What this verse tells to me, is that no matter our differences or our views on polarizing things such as sex, abortion, sexuality, what is being taught in schools… etc, we can all come together in unity under one loving and caring God. It doesn’t matter how much our beliefs and opinions differ. What matters is that we can all agree on one thing in that Christ died for our sins and if that doesn’t unite us, I don’t know what will. Tara said one thing a couple videos back that really stood out to me “ God is the great unifier, not the great homogenizer!” I believe in this context, she was talking about the different cultures that were present back in the day however, I believe it is applicable to all contemporary beliefs and cultures, as our God and Chris’s sacrifice can unify us all into a great humility, gratitude, praise, and love for our God, and to me that is all that really matters: that we love God with all our heart, and treat our neighbors as ourselves. God bless y’all day today, today’s my birthday and my only birthday wish for anyone reading this is that if there is a person in your life that you disagree with or have a quarrel with it would mean a lot to me if you could go to that person and try to make amends with them and be unified with them under God. Even if they aren’t religious in being the bigger man and making peace and spreading love, we are directly spreading the gospel by exposing the world to Jesus by having him live through us. God bless all of you today.💪✝️
Happy birthday! May you continue to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding as you age and lean more and more into Him! What a wonderful birthday wish!
this is so timely given the current state of the united states right now. there’s so much tension and division amongst political parties. this was an awesome reminder that despite our political stances or socioeconomic differences, we as believers must not let it make us harsh towards one another. we have to stand out and be set apart as followers of Jesus and His teachings!
Cultural change comes from personal humility, self-control, wise instruction through the church (this includes TBR), and the washing by the Holy Spirit with the Gospel in our hearts. I need to trust God that when I follow Him, “in love and good works,” He is capable of cultural transformation by advancing His kingdom.
“Be holy as I AM holy” (Lev 20:26). God wants my actions to resemble His character: He is pure, and He wants my heart to be pure, and when my heart is pure, it changes the way I see everything (Titus 1:15). “Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure” is a surprising claim, because Paul is pointing out how Cretan life is so impure! When our “minds and consciences are corrupted,” (Titus 1:15), all I see everywhere is injustice, and I’m driven by hate, masquerading as love. But God doesn’t call for revolution and “burning it all down.” He says that cultural change starts with our own lives, turning from “godless living and sinful pleasures” (Titus 2:12). Freedom according to Paul is not freedom from “oppression” but freedom from sin and sin’s oppression. With a pure heart, we can “live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God” (Titus 2:12).
Titus 2-3 I like how the message translates Paul’s words: “My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end. This is the life God promised long ago-and he doesn’t break promises! And then when the time was ripe, he went public with his truth.” His plan all along was eternal life for His people, and not just life without end, but a life free from the bondage of sin and outside of a fallen world.
Tara Leigh is right. I’ve read this verse but never stopped to consider it. I ran by it quickly in the greeting. “In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began…”. Wow! That just says it all, doesn’t it!
”But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.“ Titus 3:9 NIV I was guilty of this. My husband would say, “You’re on your soapbox again!” Or I would engage in political arguments on social media. Self pride, thinking that my insignificant comments would really make a difference!!? Now, to look at it from God’s perspective, shows me how very foolish I had been. Now, I know that He is in charge of it ALL! The war in Israel is the latest social media tinder box. We should not take a side against each other, but instead, do exactly what Paul is writing about right here! Pray for our faithful brothers & sisters in Christ, on either side, that are caught up in that terrible, worldly, evil driven war! Isn’t it amazing how nothing changes? Isn’t it glorious that a God who is consistently good is our Father!!? Rejoice! Rejoice! For He will return!
We often look to James as the book that preaches good works for believers is evidence of salvation, but Titus is as well. Paul mentions good works at least 6 times in this short book. It shows God places high value on us living lives as people "zealous for good works" (2:14). 👍🏾
Wow - "which God, who never lies, promised" (1:2) Jackie Hill Perry states, since God cannot sin, He cannot sin against us, and that makes Him the most trustworthy Being in the universe. Amen.
Some of the instructions Paul gives Titus are similar to what he told Timothy in yesterday's reading, like being submissive to authority and qualifications for elders. Two passages were my God shot. 1.) Titus 2:11-14 says, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works." 2.) Titus 3:4-7 says, "But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Yes and Amen. Praise God for doing His work in me and all who believe!
Set the example. Pray to set a good example. Acknowledge those who set a good example. Listen to Holy Spirit as He leads individually to transform and be the example of Jesus living, growing, and seeking the will of the Father. Engage culture by portraying how Jesus would live.
"That we haven't always known it all as we currently do, right?" - I love the humor in this recap. Thank you Tara-Leigh. 😂 May God bless everyone reading his word today!
My God shot is found in the introduction of Titus: We are told God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, eternal life. God knew what would be needed for me to have eternal life with Him, my Creator, to worship and honor Him…the sacrifice of His Son. Amen!
I caught that verse myself but it started in verse 1 for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth which accords with godliness That's me I thought. I better underline and highlight that. That I've never caught before.
Isn’t it amazing how the Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes at a verse we may have read previously a dozen times it more??!! I love this comment, bc I’ve had the Holy Spirit awaken my mind to different aspects of God many times, in this process of His washing and regeneration through the Word. Hallelujah Hallelujah!! Amen. He’s where the Joy Is!!

That is truly a wonderful victory! God bless your courageous stand.

Yes! It’s eternal life that’s been planned before the ages began. And we’ve entered into that plan if we believe in him.

Sometimes a reputation is well deserved. The fact is, God is in the business of changing lives.
The Trinity in Titus 3:4-7
We often look to James as the book that preaches good works for believers is evidence of salvation, but Titus is as well. Paul mentions good works at least 6 times in this short book. It shows God places high value on us living lives as people "zealous for good works" (2:14). 👍🏾

Hey Bible Readers!😅
To rebuke, " "To reprimand; strongly warn; restrain." It's easy, but to do it with humility is very difficult.
