This doesn’t look like a bad film, but I don’t know if anyone has noticed this, but children’s movies set in the Edwardian Era that get a sequel are usually set during World War 2 .
Railway Children both adaptation 1970 and early 2000 (Edwardian era)
Railway Children Returns(1940s)
Five Children and It (BBC) Edwardian
Five Children and It (2004) :I think this one was World War 1 , come to think of it.
Secret Garden 1970s 1980s and 1994(the most famous well known version) Edwardian Era
Return to Secret Garden (World War 2)
Nanny McPhee (Edwardian)
Nanny McPhee Returns(World War 2)
Even Peter Pan Returns was set during World War 2.
Why......the original was much better I'll give this a big miss

Why do so many people dislike this movie I saw it and I loved it.

I just went to see this. I didn’t see the original. I will give my opinion; it was a good movie. Usually I struggle to follow the plots of adult movies - I prefer kids’ movies (not mainly for that reason though). This one, however, I could follow. I’m a bit shabby on the details, but I liked the conflict/racism side of it (not meant in a racist way - I am against racism). I find ww2 quite interesting to learn about (and the Holocaust, as awful and upsetting as that is. (Again, not meant in an offensive way). I’d give this movie 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
ok
I agree that WWII is a fascinating period of history.
You must see the original of The Railway Children though. Delightful film and easy to follow. I have literally just mow found out about this sequel being made and it's good to read the positive comments about it. It would have been sad if it was terrible.

Having studied some of the background to this film..i would like to take back comments i said..yes they were black soldiers in England at the time and the battle of Bamber Bridge did happen...so while i loathe the tendency to ram the diversity issue into tv or film output..i think this is quite an innovative storyline..
@Guyver Francis good point, never thought of that..
And the chances that three kids whose father was wrongly convicted for espionage would happen upon a rockslide, save a public school runner from a railway tunnel, put out a fire on a canal boat, make friends with a director of the railway, and get their father out of prison in one summer?
