I think it’s also a big contributor to Makoto’s popularity since she has so many in this game. Seeing her have to calm herself down so she doesn’t geek out fighting Ryu and yet show no hesitation faced with Akuma tells you all you need to know: this woman appreciates fighting on a whole nother level.

Imo, because they're so common with each other, i'd say they're more generic than special. Yes they have different/specific dialogues and cameo lines with everyone else, but all of their opening animations are more or less the same. So that's not what I would consider a special intro. To me what defines a special intro is something like this. Let's say mkx still have their dialogues and such, but If you pick Sub-Zero and Scorpion, instead of having their usual talk. It opens up with them trading blows or specials moves with each other. Animations that you don't normally see on the fight screen/stage. And it's only unique to those 2 characters. Pick Scorpion/Sub-Zero against anyone else, and it'll just queue the dialogue intro. Or even simple as soon as the loading screen ends instead of cutting to the dialogue intro, they cut to the fight where the announcer say's "Round One, FIght!" you could hear Triborge and Sub-Zero both announces "For the Lin Kuei." And for people who's been following MK's lore we would all know this fight would seem a little more intense because it's 2 different character ideological paths clashing with each other from the same clan. But this is just my opinion, you don't have to agree. I'm just letting you know.
Like kof has special intros, but those are so long and not nearly as fluid or even subtle like these are. Makoto, with hardly any sprite work, has 3 really strong sfi because they pause or elongate aspects of her default intro. Clever work.

What I'm getting to is that little chest-bump Hugo does on Alex at the beginning. That was one of Andre The Giant's special attacks on WWF Wrestlemania game for the (NES) back in the day. :0)

I never really played Street Fighter, but when I see others say "They don't make things like this anymore" I 100% agree. I think it has to do with the whole 'evolution of games' or just laziness. It seems like game companies don't seem to care or make their games how they used to, not necessarily nostalgia pandering like some of the Sonic games do, but just making the games the way fans enjoyed them. It really is sad seeing how games aren't like they used to be. Sure they're really good, but it feels that something is... Missing
Take the Super Smash Bros series for example, Melee was the first game I played in the series and it was great! I especially loved the cinematic intro and the Adventure Mode! Then Brawl came along and had an amazing story mode with cutscenes of all your favorite Nintendo characters interacting! Then... Wii U or Smash 4 came along with no special intro (It uses bits and pieces from newcomer trailers), and no Adventure Mode at all. And now fast forward to this day, when Super Smash Bros Ultimate releases. It's a great game, it even brought back every fighter! There was even a story mode (sort of). Though the intro is just clips of gameplay, and the story mode isn't all that great in my opinion. See? This is what I mean by Evolution of Games. As time goes on, things change and it seems they will never be the way you once remembered them. I don't mean to sound negative, but I just thought I'd bring this up. @@GauzyGlue i think smash bros isn't quite the same, as they put more effort into other aspects of the game as the series goes on, as well as the fact they have so many more characters to work with it eats all their time. Plus, unlike with Melee and Brawl, they have their CGI animators make character reveals. The opening for Melee is just it's E3 trailer =b. Mean while with street fighter and stuff, these games are starting with a small base roster, no story mode at launch and minimal features. Then on top of that they also don't add the additional details a slow release of characters would allowed.
@TripleDoubleNoTAS well, characters of the same series still have special Victory lines in smash, in fact, Ultimate even added special lines for when Fox and/or Wolf hit each other with their Final Smashes. But that does seem to be missing in a lot of other series recent games.
In Q vs. Yun special intro, a person is missing from the running pack. He wears a hat similar to Yun's during Q vs. Dudley intro. Also, a woman is missing in Remy vs Q. Could that be Remy's sister?
The latter wouldn't surprise me because her she's purposely placed behind another woman such that you don't see her face in the other Q intros. That first part, is rather interesting. I could picture a what-if scenario where Yun had an admirer due to participating in either a Fei Long film(SFiv), or being showcased in the tournament, or being made famous by Gill's respect in the ending. If that little kid got hurt by Q, especially if it was one of those types of scenes where the kid mistakes Yun's bravery for idiocy and confronts Q without running like the rest, then it'd make sense that Yun would have reason to fight the ex-human. Sounds like a job for Game Theory lol
When I played this on Dreamcast with my friends, we would NEVER see any of these special intros because they would just keep picking Ken every time. The only one they would ever see is Ken vs Ryu if I were to pick Ryu, which wasn't too often.

I never really played Street Fighter, but when I see others say "They don't make things like this anymore" I 100% agree. I think it has to do with the whole 'evolution of games' or just laziness. It seems like game companies don't seem to care or make their games how they used to, not necessarily nostalgia pandering like some of the Sonic games do, but just making the games the way fans enjoyed them. It really is sad seeing how games aren't like they used to be. Sure they're really good, but it feels that something is... Missing
Take the Super Smash Bros series for example, Melee was the first game I played in the series and it was great! I especially loved the cinematic intro and the Adventure Mode! Then Brawl came along and had an amazing story mode with cutscenes of all your favorite Nintendo characters interacting! Then... Wii U or Smash 4 came along with no special intro (It uses bits and pieces from newcomer trailers), and no Adventure Mode at all. And now fast forward to this day, when Super Smash Bros Ultimate releases. It's a great game, it even brought back every fighter! There was even a story mode (sort of). Though the intro is just clips of gameplay, and the story mode isn't all that great in my opinion.
See? This is what I mean by Evolution of Games. As time goes on, things change and it seems they will never be the way you once remembered them. I don't mean to sound negative, but I just thought I'd bring this up. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great rest if the day! :D

@@GauzyGlue i think smash bros isn't quite the same, as they put more effort into other aspects of the game as the series goes on, as well as the fact they have so many more characters to work with it eats all their time. Plus, unlike with Melee and Brawl, they have their CGI animators make character reveals. The opening for Melee is just it's E3 trailer =b. Mean while with street fighter and stuff, these games are starting with a small base roster, no story mode at launch and minimal features. Then on top of that they also don't add the additional details a slow release of characters would allowed.
@TripleDoubleNoTAS well, characters of the same series still have special Victory lines in smash, in fact, Ultimate even added special lines for when Fox and/or Wolf hit each other with their Final Smashes. But that does seem to be missing in a lot of other series recent games.

In Q vs. Yun special intro, a person is missing from the running pack. He wears a hat similar to Yun's during Q vs. Dudley intro.
Also, a woman is missing in Remy vs Q. Could that be Remy's sister?
The latter wouldn't surprise me because her she's purposely placed behind another woman such that you don't see her face in the other Q intros. That first part, is rather interesting. I could picture a what-if scenario where Yun had an admirer due to participating in either a Fei Long film(SFiv), or being showcased in the tournament, or being made famous by Gill's respect in the ending. If that little kid got hurt by Q, especially if it was one of those types of scenes where the kid mistakes Yun's bravery for idiocy and confronts Q without running like the rest, then it'd make sense that Yun would have reason to fight the ex-human. Sounds like a job for Game Theory lol

Alpha and 3, these were always cool....why arent they in sfv....I remember trying to find all these in dbz tenkaichi 3
But in SFV, each character has their own special intro that shows only them, which is also cool and not something old SF games had.

standard intros need to be guilty gear xrd level these days to be cool and even these have different dialogue depending on the opponent.

When I played this on Dreamcast with my friends, we would NEVER see any of these special intros because they would just keep picking Ken every time. The only one they would ever see is Ken vs Ryu if I were to pick Ryu, which wasn't too often.
