  • Welcome to Fibrescapes! My name is Shelley Birkholz. I'm a Canadian artist inspired by nature's stunning beauty, and I paint with yarn!
This is the final video (#3) for this piece of sunflowers titled: "Significance of Being", 20" diameter. It was such a lot of fun to make!
I mention two TH-cam creators in the video who have been so generous with their support for this channel. They are both inspiring artists. Check them out! Many thanks to:
    Janet Nash ‪@janetnash‬
    Stephanie's Art Studio ‪@stephaniehopkinsartist‬

It really is breathtaking. The golden yellow, the browns, the green leaves and the swirling blue background make it look mystical. It does move. Thank you so much for sharing the work with us. I enjoyed every minute. 🌻

I love the loose strands of yarn around all the edges. It helps it look like made from yarn and not paint.

I appreciate that but I trim them off to finish, actually. The cut ends continue to unwind, so they can end up looking fuzzy.

I had to chuckle when you made the comment about being new to editing and open to comments as I had just been thinking about how well this video was put together and the amazing amount of work the editing represents. But please bear in mind that that thought only took the briefest of moments in my mind, as I was totally caught up in your work and the beauty of it. Watching these videos just makes my heart expand in a way that I cannot explain. The beauty of the great is just incredible. Thank you so much for sharing! 💕❤️

Thank-you! I stiffen the yarn that hangs over the edge with glue, and then cut them close to the board with the same curved scissors that I use for making.

It is so magnificent! Thank you for sharing this beauty:)) What glue and yarn you found to be the best in terms of outcome? Now I want to try this type painting:)

    • @fibrescapes1111

Excellent!! When I first started, I used regular white glue and any yarn I could find. Now I use artist's gel medium, and I've become more picky with yarns. I don't like ones that untwist a lot at the end when I cut it. Also, if the yarn is too thin, progress is very slow. Have fun! 💛

What tool are you using to nudge the yarn into place once you put it onto the glue on the board? I usually use a tooth pick but a permanent tool would be nice.
