Interesting...heck of a top notch Technician. He has all that information in his head.
Thank you :)
Talk about taking ya to school! Excellent information! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for this great video. I have year 2000 2 cycle 135 Optimax and this presentation is very informative.
Excellent video, I love to learn this kind of things!
Thank you for sending me this explanation at 26:40. My 150 HPDI is having starting issues. Seems to crank fine when cold, but after running is hard to start and need to pump the throttle. A mechanic told me it was probably that canister filter on the other side of the VST. Everyone has said fuel quality and filtration is the most important thing for that engine to run properly. Thoughts?
If it's starting issues I'd start with mechanical fuel pumps. Vst is usually once it's already running and made while trying to get power. I'd check with ll filters. You lose nothing by changing them unless they were changed in the last 50hrs. Start there. As far as fuel quality. I just used 6 month old fuel from Aug of last year and it rann just fine at 5400rpm. So unless it's 1 yr or old than I'd eliminate that as well. And even as a year, I'd disconnect the hose before the water separator and pump it with a primer ball into a clear cup. If it has water than get a bucket and go to town until all tge water is gone. Other than that work on the immediate and cheap stuff first.
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for to help me understand my new mercury’s FSM. Curious with the new mercury FSM what controls the low pressure pump since there isn’t a float anymore?
Loving these deep dives!
Thank you! Tons more coming!
Thanks. I’ll stick with my carbureted 2 stroke 150.
I'm with you also...2 stroke 90 Johnson.
this is a big show today!🎉
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
My pleasure!
I think it was great info thanks. would you be able to demonstrate that on a motor itself?
If I had all the engines lol
Another great job Aron a friend has a 3.4L225 mercury between 2800-3500 he’s getting a surging effect but at 4500+ it smooths out he’s had injector’s tested, cleaned all filters even fuel rail filter he took apart fsm & found crud cleaned it reassembled trialed it same prob. I sent your video to him on fsm & feel missed a step or 2 so we’re taking it back apart we were thinking it may be lo pr pump until I saw this vid now thinking reg.or hi pr pump?any thoughts? If you weren’t 2500 mi away you’d have it🤣thanks for all the great info & replying to my question 🔥🔥
Thanks for the info, i had a HPDI an yes its simple but it was a bit of a pr#ck to trouble shoot. But got there eventually, that XTO system looks like a nightmare.
Another excellent video explanation of fuel systems on my 40 yamaha 4st you can hear it priming when you turn on the key , had a guy who was having a fuel leak from his engine when he found it the gasket on the top of the vst was either repaired or had been crushed as it didnt look good at all so he found the leak . will you do a video on cleaning injectors at all ? anyway great video take care .
O by the way if you want to mess with people put some bubblegum additive for two stroke mix they also have cotton candy smell too just to make people behind you figure out what's going on
Very informative ! Thank you ! two strokes engines is just too loud :D
Man that was too much to comprehend in one sit down. I want to understand a yamaha four stoke fuel injection so I need to watch it again.
It works like this your vehicle whether it’s a 90 or a 2000 has the same system you have a fuel rail and injectors and it also runs through a computer system that tell your car how much fuel is required to get going it pretty straight forward if you have ever done anything mechanical on your car it Hass to do with fuel
But when you have the workshop manual you breeze through it .
You forgot to mention FICHT ram injection that all the etec's use. It operates completely differently from any other DI system, each injector is its own high pressure pump. When it works it works really good and it's really simple.
Fun fact, the fuel injection system used on optimaxes was developed by a company called orbital fuel injection out of Australia. That system was used on a lot of 2 stroke PWCs and is widely considered to be overly complicated, extremely expensive to repair, difficult to diagnose.
They are also different to each other. First few years ficht had different injectors than later ficht rams (also different ecu/emm and integrated/not integrated ignition modules), and etecs have their own. Princible is the same.
Fichts are a nightmare when they act up, but really nice when they work. Etecs are lot better, but they too have their issues.
I learned a ton.
Impressive knowledge.... Glad to be ur subscriber
Thank you for subscribing :) hoping it all helps everyone learn more about their boats!
Wonderful video!!!!! Nice info!!!!
Thank you!
Great information! Thank you, sir!
For sure, thank you!
Great video ! What are your thoughts on ordering cheap scan tools for each brand of outboard? Or do u have the genuine mercury , yamaha ect tool? How often do the tools or computer program/plugs need updating as well ? Thanks for the info,
I’ve read many direct injection engines in the automotive industry have suffered severe carbon build up on the intake valve area because these DI engines don’t have the cleaning effect of gas being constantly sprayed over them. Basically the crank case ventilation system is what causes this build up. I guess this was a very bad problem in some early DI engines. I know many automotive manufacturers have done a variety of things to try to mitigate this carbon build up problem with varying degrees of success. I wonder if or how Yamaha has addressed this issue?
I wasn't aware of Yamaha having direct injection. Most, if not all, have ported injection which doesn't have the carbon issue.
@@nealblue6413 I read somewhere online ( can’t remember where) that this is a GDI engine. After reading your message I fact checked myself at official websites and learned that your right, this engine is port injected. My bad, I should double check what I type before posting. Thanks
Nice video man 👍 .
Can you do a video on programming the different engine.
Not sure what you mean by programming, make a new comment so it will go to the top of the list :)
Excellent info, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
We have a 1999 AlumaCraft Trophy 185 with a carbed 90hp Johnson 2-stroke on it and we’ve been having a bunch a different carb issues we even considered a repower we’ve dumped about $4,000 dollars into that motor
Ouch, yeah, I'd be looking to repower for sure, or find a used engine
@@BornAgainBoating besides that it’s a solid running motor when it decides to run right
@@BornAgainBoatingwhere looking at a 90 horse Yamaha but we might go 4-stroke to avoid carbs all together
What do you think is the difference between the cost of Maintenance on each one of these obviously you have to replace the filters but what else do you have to replace do you have to replace the fuel regulator every year or clean it out I mean with everything going on electrical we would not be able to fix the problem ourselves and it sounds like the same thing in the vehicles that we drive every day they are very similar
I really don't think there's much difference in the maintenance, it's all about the fuel filters pre all this stuff. So if you regularly maintain, they will have similar live expediencies
Not that hard to understand and if you have one in front of you and the manual next to you for all the specs its just the diagnosing that's the key that's why you need the manual
That was comprehensive.
If you've SEEN some of these systems, it's STILL somewhat imaginary...😂😂
Follow-up series of shorter videos with actual motors, just showing the anatomy? Even if they're non-running examples?
Please?
A lot can go wrong with modern engines.
Great video
Thanks!
When you find out how something works, you can fix it. Thanks
Do you work on Mercuriser and the Bravo outdrives?
He’s an outboard guy mostly. Much more popular in Florida
Yeah mainly outboard s
I couldn't help noticing 1 Cor 15:3 in the background. I suspected a religious background through the Chanel Title, and am curious if you are as knowledgeable about the Bible as you are about outboards? It was great information, but I would also be curious as to what fuel system you favor, considering the complexity, reliability, the ease of troubleshooting, and fixes.
Absolutely my good sir! Two of my best subjects ;) the 1611 and Outboards :) and I'm going EFI for fuel efficiency and quietness.
Thumbs up!👍
great video. Do you know what fuel system a 2014 150hp Yamaha have? thanks a lot
Fuel injection
Port fuel injection just like a car. Super simple and reliable!
Efi super simple super easy and super reliable :)
Need the puppet show
That was exhausting.
No that was intaking.
:)
Great presentation. Sounds like the 425 costs a few bucks to service!
Thanks. It does!
