When we were little (and for me that goes back to the 1980's) there was color EVERYWHERE. My whole childhood is surrounded by colorful coral and thousands of fish families... it will heal. We just have to do all that we can! This video is priceless. Mahalo Nui Loa
I went to Maui, Hawaii in 1996 with my family. As a young child I remember snorkeling with my dad and being in awe of the incredible color and diversity of coral. It was like an alien planet and I was amazing that florescent greens, pinks and purples could even exist in that way. I went back for the first time in 2017. Now with my wife and expecting to show her the magical underwater world I had found at a young age., all I saw was sand and bare rock.
My brother and I visited in October 2019 and dove several sites on the Kona coast. We witnessed the bleaching and were extremely concerned. Thank you for putting this video together. Good information and presentation. We'll be sharing it and looking forward to part 2! Aloha
@@thinkocean440 Dang, I don't know KP Hole. Is that on the big Island? I thought I recognized mile marker 4 from another part of the video. All awesome shots!
It was several years ago now. 2018. It was at Kahaluu Beach Park in Kona. Through Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and their Coral Reef Ecology Lab Program. Also Eyes of the Reef www.EORHawaii.org Aloha and don't forget to Subscribe to this Think Ocean channel. More great educational content coming out all the time!

@@thinkocean440 We are doing the same but in the Mediterranean Sea.
Have a look if you have time :)
Where were you at 14:38 in the video? Your timing was awesome having the swell drop right as you cut.
Aloha. I'm at the KP Hole.

And now I know
Thanks 👍👍
Thank you for posting this! Can you link me where you took the class on coral at the science center? I would like to take it too!

@@thinkocean440 thank you for the information! I’m trying to learn more :)
@@thinkocean440 I subscribed and will watch part two! You named a dive site, hilo Romeo? Is that right? Where is that?
Hotel Romeo. It's a code name so the site doesn't get over inundated with divers.
@@thinkocean440 haha right on, I should’ve known that. I live here and recently got certified to dive. I’ll figure it out 😝
