Yeah imho this is not a woman's perfume in the last & it shouldn't even be considered or marketed as being unisex. The dry down becomes way less sweet & becomes more of a musky, smoky, woodsy leather dry down.
Great review! I think I have a sample of Woody Mood somewhere,I need to find it! I also long for fall, in Norway the temperature has dropped, and the fall is in the air. I just ordered my new fall scent, Hwyl from Aesop. Hwyl is a dark green woody perfume with some incense. Not lush green, it reminds me of the Scandinavian dark forests with pine and spruce. It has no sweetness, exept the natural sweetness from the woods.
You described this fragrance pretty much perfectly. I don't know why it's marketed as being "unisex" I disagree with that. I think this is 100% a man's cologne. I mean I can see WHY some women might want to wear it but it is too masculine imo. As a man, Woody Mood is of my favorite men's cologne fragrances along with Azzaro's Most Wanted By Night, Dolce Gabbana The One, and YSL Cologne For Men EDP, and Davidoff's Cool Water. I started out with a small sample of Woody Mood, wore it for a day it & I had to splurge to get a bottle of it. Got it at $90 discount online as it is very pricey now. I love the smell of the Sequoias & pine trees. This has a bit of campfire smokiness to it but it's mostly pine forest lumber that I get added with musk & leather which thankfully gives it & keeps that manly odor vibe going on. And it settles in great during the entire dry down time perfectly. The first note stars off as a good strong pepper, settles down quickly into that pine forest smoky woodsy smell, and dries down super nice with the added leather & musk and is not so sweet all said & done. I would say this is well suited for young adult men & also older men. This is even a great fragrance for date nights or clubbing that would get some nice compliments from ladies. This fragrance would most definitely stand out as being something "VERY GOOD different" classy that most women would totally take notice to & like. I like this a lot because it is a unique fragrance not well known or worn like Sauvage is. Imo this one is way better than Doir Sauvage even. It smells also of a classy successful guy vibe. If a guy is looking for a true "woodsy" & masculine combo vibe then this one is it. Also this is not any form of a cheap smelling men's cologne in the least. Which would explain it's upper cost. Projection is really good but not overpowering. 1 spray on each arm maybe with 2 on the neck & 1 on the back of the neck is plenty to last a guy a good 6 to 8hrs + easily. I like to say imo all colognes can be worn anytime of the year, but I understand why this is probably considered best to wear it fall, winter or early spring I suppose. If I get the vibe & feel for it I'll still wear it during a nice summer night also. Anyways I'm super happy with it it's one of my top 5 men's cologne fragrances.

This sounds reallllllly good, Yve. And this incense in the temple in the woods scenario you’re imagining… yeah, this is going on my sample list. I wanna try it! I don’t think I have a favorite woody fragrance yet. Great review as always.

First I would like to reacquire a sample of Comme des Garcons' Sequoia, which was also perfumed by Bertrand Duchaufour and which has a boozy accord of rum. I used to own a sample back in the early days of my fragrance journey, but back then I was quick to dismiss it and gave it away... My favourite three woody perfumes (going off of fragrantica's classification) which also include a boozy note would be Nasomatto - Baraonda, By Kilian - Straight to Heaven Extreme and Cartier - Pasha de Cartier Parfum :)
Great question! I haven't tried Palo Santo, but if I were to compare it to Santal Majuscule, I would argue that they're vastly different. Woody Mood smells more like a place (taking inspiration from forests) while Santal Majuscule smells more like refined and processed woods. I would also say that SM is sweeter. I'm thinking of doing a review of it sometime soon when I find the time!
