    I have a TC-WE305 cassette deck that I bought a few years ago and hardly used it. Now that I wanted to transfer some rare tracks to MP3 both decks refuses to play, rewind or fforwad. I decided to put it in the trash but then I found your video. I ordered the belts from Amazon for about $14.00, they arrived last night. I just installed them and both decks are like new again. Thank you very much for showing us the easy way on how to change the belts. I too wonder how many of these decks end up in the garbage. Thank you so much, I can now continue moving my tracks to MP3.

      Happy to hear you brought your deck back to life! It's sad to think of how much gets trashed vs $14 on Amazon. Thanks for watching.

    Brother thank you so much you just saved the tape player I inherited after my step dad passed from covid last year. I can’t wait to listen to all his old cassettes. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for doing this video. I had broken belts and was hesitant to do the work myself. After watching this video I knew I could do it. Now it’s like new again and works great!

    I thought I was gonna have to spend some big bucks to get a new player and they are hard to find. Saw your video, ordered the belts and I'm listening right to my vintage Everly Brothers cassette and the deck is working perfectly. I even changed the counter belt too. The new belts are a lot heftier too. Thanks.

      Glad you got your deck back working. I was shocked at how easy it was to replace those belts.

      @@christophwjones and the counter belt wasn't too bad either. Removed the four screws holding the mechanism and that let it move back far enough to slip the belt through the hole where the drive goes through and slip it on and it's done.

    Recently brought home my parents old Sony deck. It's still in great shape but plays a little wonky; definitely going to swap the belts after watching this. As far as the size unnecessary size, the old component systems were designed to stack. Within the brand lines you would have your matching amp, receiver, cassette player, etc. So really the size of the body was to support whatever component got stacked above it.

      @christophwjones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point about size and brand lines. Really makes sense when you think about it that way. Good luck on your belt swap. My deck is like new now and I'm using it more than ever. Thanks for watching.

    @christianninsananda9626 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm pretty sure the large size of it is so that it will stack with other components (receiver, cd player, etc).

    • @christophwjones
      @christophwjones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I definitely should have called that out on the video but I did a very unscientific measurement of the old vs new. They are extremely close to the same size.

    hello , i cleared mine thorouglhy and i put some new rubber bands to test it to see if its worth to buy good belts. The whole system is very clean almost like new and the rubber bands seems to spin the tapes very good , however both decks sound VERY wobbly . I searched whole internet but i counldnt find something .Do you think its completely broken?

    • @christophwjones
      @christophwjones  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there, that's tough for me to answer. My first guess would be that the rubber bands used for testing may not be the right size. My 2nd thought would be to check the pinch rollers. That wobbly sound is called wow and flutter. Make sure to clean the rollers inside the deck that sit against the tape itself. If the motors spin well, the tape deck is likely repairable. Sorry I couldn't provide more details.

    Thank you for doing this! I just today received an audiobook on cassette which is long out of print and I paid waaaaay to much for, but that's another issue haha. Anyway I went to transfer into Adobe Audition, and tbis exact deck in in your video, which last I used and worked fine but was some time ago would not play. Would fast forward and rewind, but no dice on play. I was pretty upset, as I thought it was the audiobook tapes and I dont see any other copies anywhere, and trust me I looked before purchasing, but then I thought to try other tapes I have I know worked, and same result. I ordered a replacement deck for now, and am absolutely going to also attempt the repair. If ff and rewind work but not play, does that sound like a belt issue to you? What's a bummer is years ago, maybe 2005 I had a killer high end cassette deck which stopped working and I trashed it. Now seeing this video I greatly regret that! Thanks man!

    • @christophwjones
      @christophwjones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. The issue could be a belt, I was very fortunate that mine was an easy fix and not a motor. This guy, Jordan Pier, did an even better repair and maintenance video on this exact deck. If the belts don’t fix it, this guy would know the answer for sure. I’d recommend checking out his video as well. Good luck Shawn, let me know if you get it working.

    excuse me, could you tell me that where could i change the play spped of 2 decks.........one of them is too fast, and another is too slow.......thank you man!!!!!

    • @christophwjones
      @christophwjones  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This one is a bit difficult to explain (for me) via comments but I'll try. Before trying this, make sure everything is clean and the belts are installed correctly and at the right tension. This isn't an easy adjustment by my view.
      There are 4 adjustment screws on the main board, labeled RV501 & RV502 for deck A, RV503 & RV504 are for deck B. You can likely adjust by ear but to reach spec you'll need a meter to read the output on CNP506 line out.
      There is a manual you can download for this deck for free on the internet archive.
