Rob, good notes and comparison. Just picked up my first of any Longrows, the 15 year Red Pinot Noir. Surprised at how very good it is with great balance between the fruits and peat. Cheers!

I couldn’t get anywhere near the Longrow 10 when it was released. It’s literally next to impossible to source in the U.K. at retail price these days. Always been hard to get, but the last year or two it’s really become unobtainable. However, I do have the Kilkerran 8 Port in the stash. Looking forward to opening at somepoint next year. 👍🏻
Here’s a tip for you. Highland Park 12: Orkneyinga Legacy. Essentially it’s the standard 12 presented at 46% and non chill filtered and no added colour. Its one from 2018. It’s absolutely sublime & only costs £35 at auction plus fees. Highly recommend you pick it up. I think it will be right up your street, knowing you’re quite fond of highland park.

Thanks for the perspective - I agree with you on the KK8 Port. Not my absolute favorite but I like it nonetheless. Cheers.

Interesting comparison. I've never seen a KK8 available since I picked up an old bourbon matured at 56.5. I have a 3 LR Reds and never thought of them as part of the "young cask strength" trend that KK8 and GlenAllachie 10 started.
I suppose that 12 is still "young" so the SB12 really started the trend of expecting great things from immature powerhouses.
Do you ever get to try KK Peat in Progress? I just came across batch 6.

Cool side-by-side. Interesting to hear their differences. I'd love to hear about that Bladnoch on your shelf. Cheers!

Has anyone had the chance to compare Kilkerran 8 Port to my top favorite .....Kavalan Solist Port Cask matured ? That would be the true test!

Great review as always! Btw, how do you know Springbank is releasing a bunch to the Canadian market? I always seem to miss out on them! Any advice how I can be one of the lucky ones this time?

Wish I knew. Usually just follow the Instagram trail but often by that time they’re all gone.

Not sure where you're located, but if you live in Alberta you need to build a relationship with the retailers who commonly get springbank allocations (maybe not all of them, but even having one on your side helps a LOT). Then make friends with other whisky lovers. When you find out about a release, make sure you share the knowledge with your friends, and they will likely return the favour one day. Oh yeah and don't just start by asking about springbank, I've watched people do it in the stores and it's a giant turn-off for the store. Get to know them, get to know some of the hidden gems that they recommend, it's the little things. It helps if they see you a lot and you spend lots of money in their store too, haha far more likely to get a heads up about the best releases.
If you live outside of Alberta.... I mean you can do some of the same things, just in a different way. Try to build an online relationship with a store and support just that one store. If you do it right eventually they'll look after you. Or alternatively pray to the lottery gods and enter every lottery you can and maybe you'll get lucky ;)

@@catnapgee5357 I'm glad you picked up on that. It's a highly in-demand collectible that people go through a lot of effort to obtain, I know a lot of people don't love it being that way, but the easiest solution to that is to not buy into the hype and find some equally tasty, but less in-demand bottles to acquire. AKA the next Springbank.

@@supermeh1987 I haven't been able to find its match at the same price point. People say Benromach is like Springbank, when they say that, I immediately tune them out thereafter because it 100% is NOTHIN like Springbank .. not even in the same ball park! Springbank is in a class of its own, thats why its so loved. It truly is something special.
