Buchan Accents 2 Inverallochy Cairnbulg

Every community has a different accent and often words and expressions known only to those who live within that area. In the olden days, this became a language all of its own and therefore difficult for strangers to decipher. These days are far gone and I am trying to show what was left of these forms of expression by giving some examples of these old once familiar accents, words, and indeed their languages now disappearing. These films are all over thirty years old.

My Dad was a Chief sailing fae Aberdeen. He worked the factory ships and trawlers. His last trip was 1975. And i found out while staying in St Combs that my Buchan side come fae Inverallocy!

Thank you for sharing this video. I recently did family research for my husband's family - Stephen / Mason / Buchan - and these are the accents he remembers of his grandfather. The family is originally from Ham, Bressay in the 1700s before migrating to the mainland. Would love to learn more about the village history.

My Granda Buchan was a sawyer sailing fae Aberdeen. His father moved fae 2b High Street, Buchanhaven, in 1917. He married a Stephen fae 2b High Street Buchanhaven Far the Heritage Centre is noo.

Aye, there is so much in the past that we all miss out on today. It would be better if we kept the best of the past and mixed it with today's best!
