You are completely right about the framing part. But thats the whole point. A is the person who lives in this initial stage of anguish and despair. He has, so to speak "spottet" the meaninglesness of life. B has chosen himself as himself, a person who is very flawed, and he can live in this dispair, because his identity isnt predicated on "being rich" or "being sober". He can just try again tomorrow. Because he knows he is flawed. They both write authentically to their experience.
