    When I started knittting 60+ years ago there was no such thing as top down sweaters. And they fit just fine.

      And no circular needles! Everything was knit flat or on dp's. Metal needles, oh my I remember using those. I think that I made one huge sweater coat with them and put it together. Loved that thing, wish I still had the pattern as the sweater didn't get packed when I got divorced. I would wear it to church and all the girls would come snuggle up around me and I'd wrap the sweater around us - being acrylic it was warm. Patterns were also hard to come by. Coats and Clark had those booklets, which is where I got the sweater pattern. Ya'll don't know the struggles we had back then lol! Love your podcast gals!

    Have a look at The Knittingmans no float method of knitting. No more float issues at all as colours blend together or having at times to work with ladder back. He demonstrates for English knitting but easily converted to 2 handed knitting. Knitting sits flat no puckering issues at all. No loose stitch at join. My knitting has elevated to another level. ❤

    Tammy - I'm knitting Robinia Light - same issue with curling on the narrow rib - I steam blocked it before I picked up for the back - voila! It's now fine. I've now separated at the armhole - discovered quickly that my gauge was too tight when knitting in the round and moved up a needle size - another Voila! My husband doesn't really notice my WIPs but this caught his attention and he said WOW!

    Claudia-a purl stitch after a knit stitch uses more yarn since it has to come from back to front and all the way around the needle. Patty Lyons has a great explanation. The solution is to wrap the purl stitch clockwise and work it thru the back leg on the next row. I do that on all ribbing and anywhere else when a purl follows a knit. It tightens up the knit stitch.

    • @woolandwine
      @woolandwine  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, Deb. Where can I find the explanation by Patty Lyons? Is it on youtube? I've always struggled with the conversion from knit to purl. I am always willing to learn something new. Thank you so much.

    Girls, girls you can definitely podcast with no editing. Andrea Mowry does it every week, and Kim and Jonna do update/midmonth podcasts with no editing (knit together with Kim and Jonna). I don't know about everyone else but perfect is not something I worry about in a knitting podcast. We're all just like you and just want to see what you are up to even if it is raw and uncut! The only thing I worry about is if I can hear you and see you/your projects, so the rest is just fluff! Have a great month of vacation Tammy! and girls, just do it! We don't bite lol

      I can tell you that the wheat stitches are fun. I’m having a difficult time with knitting 3 or 5 stitches through the back loop. I’m using a smaller needle on the left side and that helps. I’m holding drops alpaca with mohair and that is probably why it is difficult. It is very fuzzy. If I used just one yarn it would be easier I think but I really like the color work.

    As a beginner knitter, only knowing the knit and purl stitch, I am anxious to knit a sweater. You look like you do a LOT of sweaters and was wondering what I should start with and the yarn you use. Thanking you in advance!!

    • @woolandwine
      @woolandwine  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would recommend starting with a top-down pullover. Are you able to M1R and M1L? No matter what kind of sweater you make, you will need to know that skill. The DRK Everyday Sweater might be a good beginner's project. The gauge for the sweater is 21 stitches over four inches. Hopefully you know how to do a gauge swatch. Her suggested yarn is a sport weight, but you could also use DK. I enjoy working with wool but but the choice is yours. You can look at knitpicks yarn and pick something from there. Their yarn is good quality and not too expensive. I'm excited for you. Let us know how you do.

    Another fabulous episode with so much inspiration. Who needs Ravelry? I am wondering how much time you devote to knitting each day? This summer I am knitting most days, but not finishing anything. Maybe I have too many WIP’s…is that possible?

    I don’t know if it will work in this instance but when I was working on an Isabel Kraemer sweater my purl seam didn’t look right and someone suggested to pull the 2nd stitch after the purl stitch TIGHTLY. It made all the difference in making it look right and both seams looking more identical.

    Hey friends, so cool to find a new podcast. I used to work and teach at a yarn store and I think I know the issues with the slipping of the stitches on the tank top. On the knit side, when you slip your stitch, are you inserting your needle as if you will knit the stitch and then slipping it instead? This will twist your stitch and make it tighter. On the purl side, the twisting doesn't happen. Don't know for sure but maybe something to consider

    • @katpraeuner9794
      @katpraeuner9794 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, I wanted to add when you purl you use more yarn going over rather than under. When knitting you use less yarn, so maybe try purling under to snatch up some of the extra yarn? I saw a podcast a few weeks ago talking about it. So another thing to try. And I agree it could also be the direction of the slip off your stitches, which is why some patterns say slip stitch purlwise...
