Shar does have a connection to the Netherese through the Shadovar, and the orb essentially eats magic. I dont think it would be too much of a stretch to think Shar led Gale to find the orb in order for him to inadvertently to destroy Mystra.

I like this kind of magical system because it's mostly based on philosophical theories. No deep scientific explanation and in a way unpredictable which makes it very mysterious.

You do a great job explaining these stories. On my playthough with my drow Gale opened up a bit to her and the first thing she thought when he told her about his experiences with Mystra was and i quote. "Bullshit"

An interesting hypothesis but that would be very unlikely. Karsus is forever trapped in his petrified form. However, I think there is the distinct possibility that we might encounter some remainder of Karsus, perhaps a shade of his former being as we explore Gale's story.
You kinda missed the ENTIRE point of his whole damn story arc if you think it's a good thing. Not only was she pretty manipulative... It completely ruined his mortal life and fed into his insecurities to the point he thought he was better off dead when he pissed her off. So yeah alpha male but at what cost?? Bro lol

I really want to play his Origin story the most of the companions so far. My ideal dream team of Lae'zel (Fighter), Astarion (Thief), Shadowheart (Cleric) and Gale (Wizard) will be interesting to play with. The classic 4 man adventure party is classic for a reason. Hopefully, we get a better understanding of his mindset and motives.
I love your analysis - this is exactly how I feel about him. There will be no happy end with him for my character, it seems, so I expect some crappy love drama coming up XD Also, I've read the first Elminster's book, where Mystra in different faces trained the young lad, tested him, and then seduced him. It was so sweet, so convenient. I kind of feel Gale's story to be the darker version of Elminster's arc.
I feel like that, too. It makes me wonder why Mystra chooses to bed her chosen. Cynically I think it's part for fun and part so they leave her alone after she's done with them.
My theory for why Mystra bedded Gale is simple, she knew that he would never get over his crush on her if she never slept with him, it would be fun for both of them, and she knew when she stopped sleeping with him it would stop his obsession with her without making him stop advancing magic.
Well, all we have to go on is his claim. Perhaps it was a devil or a demon but I think it very unlikely it was; the link to Karsus, the obsession with the Weave. I see no reason why he would lie about that.

I wanted to play a wizard or sorlock but then I can't use gale. I find this issue a lot with this game, there's so many origin characters its as if the extra choices actually take agency away from you. I just hope it doesn't feel that way as you play it
Spoilers if you haven't played Early Access: If you kill the Druids and Tieflings in The Druids Grove, Gale can be persuaded to stay with the party instead of leaving. I would say that brings into question just how neutral or good he really is, if he is willing to continue stomaching such atrocities and move forward.

@@MizuMing i disagree, i think the fandom has just mischaracterised gale to a ridiculous degree to the point where he's this "sEcReTLy KaRsUS" boogeyman and constantly used as a prop to make astarion of all people look better(???). not saying you're doing that, but i do think the fanon version of gale is a little ridiculous. he just seems like a flawed but ultimately good hearted dude to me. i 1000% agree that he is unhealthily focused on mystra, but if anything i feel sorry for gale. there's clearly an extremely unhealthy power dynamic there. as for how his infatuation pans out, we'll have to see. personally, i don't think gale will quickly forget that tav stuck by him when he was at his weakest where mystra ghosted him. *ideally* there'll be at least two different routes in the full release; one where gale learns to let go and one where he gives in to his obsession -- and the outcome mainly depends on how your tav treats him. i'll be really disappointed if the game only gives us one option. that goes for all the companions. two different paths for their stories would be really great pay-off to what they've set up so far.
Astarion no questions asked. He's far more honest than Gale, and easy to read when he lies. I also feel more compelled to help him over Gale, and he won't eat your items. 👀

If you don't choose the evil path , he will betray you easily in front of those powerful Bosses, unless you find a powerful magic to bind him , but I am not interesting in a man. ... , about Gale, Gale's memory is obviously tampered by someone(Shar)，the shadow magic fragment is the enemy of Mystra, but it is strang to Gale to say is for 「love Mystra and hope Mystra help him control the magic fragment」?? so, Gale will be a big problem person in your party.
