XP Deus HF Elliptical Coil Test - Hunt In Difficult Conditions

- This was my second hunt with the relatively new XP Deus high frequency elliptical coil. The first hunt was done on a field in 74kHz frequency mode, this one was at 30kHz. The location was pretty demanding. An abandoned, trashy vineyard, partially with soil from different locations. The spot was filled with coke (something I could not avoid with my "2-Tone" setup), trash and iron. I already hunted parts of it with the HF round coil, the black 9" coil (I believe) and the Tesoro Compadre. But, places like this are never "done" after a short hunt from one angle.
Conclusion: The narrow shape is of course an advantage. Targets can be better separated. The audio seems "narrower" too, which requires a little bit slower sweep speed, compared to the round HF coil. Due to the same algorithm it's just the shape that is making the difference, when it comes to unmasking iron. For scenarios with dense iron, I would prefer a shorter coil. It is simply too long in my opinion, both ends overlap unwanted targets too often, which probably compromises the performance.
But, if the iron bits are relatively small, or deeper and the overall amount of targets is not too high, it is a good coil for this type of hunt (in this case the length allows a faster coverage - the tip can be positioned from different angles).

Hello John, thanks for watching :). I was nervous too, because it was close to the edge. You never know how solid the stones are. At some other places similar walls collapsed over time on its own. Standing there is probably not the smartest thing to do.

That coil seams to be working great
It was working fine in this type of environment, although coke was still a problem (due to the algorithm in 2-tone mode).
Everyone seems to be getting that elliptical coil so it must be doing something good.
People often buy stuff without knowing if it's good or not. I would not look at it as an indicator (especially when it comes to metal detecting where many people are pushing certain things for "different reasons"). But in this case, if someone already likes the Deus algorithm of the 9" coil, a narrow shape can be an improvement (it sure was at this location).

Vielen Dank, die Spule ist eine gute Ergänzung der großen, wenn man auf solche Stellen stößt. Mit den beiden runden hatte ich dort meine Probleme, weil sie seitlich einen zu großen Bereich überlappen. Die Spule könnte theoretisch etwas kürzer sein, so lassen sich aber auch Bereiche mit wenigen Signalen relativ zügig abdecken. Trotzdem würde ich jedem empfehlen, auch den Tesoro Compadre zu probieren... viele Grüße und Gut Fund.

What is the frequency that you use for gold, and is the elliptical coil able to detect large gold, or only for shards?
what deus or custom program did you use at those frequencies?
I believe it was the ("Deep") program #6. I used "Deus Fast" as base for a while, but now I'm back to #6 again.
Are you filming with a GoPro?
Except for the macro footage, everything was was filmed with a Sony FDR-X3000.
Remembered the time you went to the mountain near a middle age castle, i thnk you would have better luck overthere ;-)
Hi, which video do you mean? The one with the "Silver in the air" title? Well, I like hunting spots like this from time to time, regardless all the trash. It takes a different mindset and approach, but it can be even more satisfying (the finds are not my primary target, otherwise I would probably hunt fields).

There are no deep targets at all ? Or you loose by your wish all targets deeper than 2-3 cm because of choosed parametres in deus ?
I don't know the reason for it. Maybe the soil was bad and the Deus had difficulties to penetrate it. Maybe the targets were just shallow...
What settings did you use when hunting and comparing Elliptical and Round HF coils?
Hello, I haven't compared the elliptical coil to the round one. I hunted this place at two different occasions (weeks apart). The settings were almost the same. For this hunt I used:
Base for it is program is #6 "Deep" (it is important to use this one and change everything from there).
Disk: -5.4 Expert / 3 TONES /
Expert Tone 1 - 120 Hz
Tone 2 - 200 Hz
Tone 3 - 644 Hz
THRESH. 1T/2T - 0
THRESH. 2T/3T - 03
Sens: 93
Freq: 30kHz
Iron Volume: 3 (the value doesn't matter)
Reactivity: 3
Silencer: -1
Audio Response: 4
Loudness: 1
Notch: 00-00
Ground Balance: 78
This was rather an exception. I use my G.B. 63 setup otherwise.

Das ist die "Mobius Action Cam" (Version 1). Leider muss diese manuell fokussiert werden (das heißt - das Gehäuse muss min. ein mal geöffnet werden). Die neuen Objektive lassen sich zudem nicht mehr drehen, sondern sind verklebt. Früher konnte man intern eine kleine Schraube lösen. Ich glaube, die "A2" ist die einzige Linse, bei der es noch geht. Werde bald mehr Infos haben.

Welche Spule findest du am besten für den Deus , also auch was Tiefe angeht usw👍
Da bin ich noch unentschlossen. Hatte eigentlich vor, eines Tages alle Spulen mitzunehmen und sie irgendwo im Wald auf Tiefe zu testen. Subjektiv betrachtet scheint die runde HF nicht schlecht zu sein, obwohl sie "in der Luft" schlechter abschneidet, als die schwarze. Theoretisch sollen höhere Frequenzen in mineralisierten Böden eine größere Tiefe erreichen...
Ich würde gerne (irgendwo im Wald) einen "Testgarten" mit verschiedenen vergrabenen Objekten einrichten. Die Frage ist nur, wie lange es dauert, bis es ein anderer Sucher findet und alles ausgräbt :).

I like this coil, but used the round one to have a small depth advantage. I will have to try this coil with my current setting, which is a little bit deeper than the previous one. I have a few spots (like this one) where it could have an advantage (due to better separation).

In places like this, with many targets in the ground, it sure makes life a little bit easier (because of better separation). I haven't compared both coils on the same targets at the same time, so it's just my subjective impression.

Hallo Thomas. Theoretisch schon. Die Frage ist nur, wie "tief" die Spule an beiden schmalen Enden ist. Dann gibt es auch noch die Geschwindigkeit beim Schwenken. Die runde Spule hat (geometriebedingt) mehr Zeit (beim gleichen Algorithmus), das Signal auszuwerten...
Es ist eine gute Spule für Gebiete mit vielen Signalen nebeneinander. Für dichtes, (modernes) Eisen ist der Deus (meiner Meinung nach) nach wie vor "anstrengend"...
P.s. Der Sprung war einfach peinlich :).
