One Day Build: Metal and Wood Router Sled

My take on the traditional router sled used for leveling slabs or rounds or basically whatever you want.
I built this one out of some aluminum angle stock from the depot to give it a lower clearance on the bottom end, so you could get more travel out of your router.

What is the benefit of the wood attached on on the outside of the angle iron? Just makes it a little more stable? Think you could get away with just the two cross pieces?

I really just wanted to make sure there wasnt any flex in the piece, because then instead of something being level you'd end up with a concave shape on a slab or something. Just beefed it up because i wasnt sure if the aluminum rails would bend or not.

That aluminium angle is very weak and can flex like you wouldn't believe

Yes, its wax just helps it slide easier

sorry my bad, its finishing wax, just to make the router slide easier on the metal glides.
