    bit.ly/1vfFwQT - GraphicRiver, where you can buy these Photoshop mock up templates
    bit.ly/1NoPQBt - Divi WordPress Theme by Elegant Themes: This is the theme I use on my graphic design website. I upload my product mockups into their beautiful portfolio template. This is the only theme I have LOVED for this purpose and I've tried a lot! Here is my portfolio to see the theme and mockups in action: brightmindmarke...
    bit.ly/1lOzd9o - ThemeTrust Wordpress Themes (Limited time offer: 40% off with code 'christmas2015'): I've used these themes before too and while I don't love them as much as I love Divi, they are another option... professional, high-quality and great support.
    bit.ly/1TPaU5G - StudioPress WordPress Themes: This is the LAST theme provider I recommend if you're going to start an online portfolio! They aren't built for portfolios necessarily, but they are SOLID themes! I use these on every single other website that I own, and I own lots! These cost 2x as much as ThemeTrust themes, but if you plan to use it for more than a portfolio, it may be the better option as it integrates seamlessly with many popular WordPress plugins.
    Learn all my tips and tricks on how to build a graphic design portfolio. Creating a graphic design portfolio doesn't have to be hard. You don't need to be a web designer or a photographer, you only need your designs and a few tools in your tool box to use which I will give you. Over the past five years I've gone from having a portfolio that was ugly and unprofessional to learning how to make a design portfolio that is awesome and makes my work look much more attractive! They will NOT teach you this in graphic design school! How do I know? Because I have my BA in graphic design and my college let me graduate with an ugly portfolio!

    This is GOLD! Thank you!... I commented on this before watching it through and then as the vid moved on, I started to identify with more and more of the issues you've dealt with - having the same experiences (especially at the end when you speak of being confident about your portfolio after implementing some of the techniques you discuss here, but having NOT so much confidence before. Also the 'hacking together' of past projects for use in a portfolio. This is the point at which I find myself now) so now I know my "This is GOLD!..." comment is justified. So, again, thank you. This is more valuable to me than a thumbs up could ever compensate for. A STAR you are m'dear...

    You are a LEGEND!! I found product mock up photos in iStock by accident in the past and was planning to spend ages (as photoshop isn't my strong area) working out how to angle and warp/distort the images to give the correct perspective. I had NO IDEA there were files that were clever enough to do that for you. I could kiss you!!

    I enjoyed the video. It was simple and to the point, while not being flashy. Thank you for sharing your experience with the design community. I never thought or knew about product mock-ups. I design logos and this will help a lot. Thanks again!

      Ha I know right! They won't teach you that in design school, just let you go out into the real world to figure out how to present your work without a degree in photography! Glad this video help!

    Very good advice! Have you tried printing them as well? I just graduated and I'm looking for entry level graphic design job. Do companies typically prefer printed portfolios or is everyone okay with digital now? I feel like I should have both but i don't want to overwhelm them. Thanks!

    • @Brightmindmarketing
      @Brightmindmarketing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Mervin Flores I've not tried printing these but I would imagine it would print great so long as the resolution was high enough. I think whether to have a printed or digital portfolio depends on the type of job you're applying for... if you're applying for high-end graphic design jobs at design agencies, I would think that they may like to see your creativity with a printed portfolio. I work online now and do very little graphic design, so a digital portfolio works for my needs, and even then it's more about the relationship and not the portfolio. I can say that people will want to see work samples to see if they should even bother meeting you in person. so it'd be great to have something available to quickly send over. Hope this is helpful!

    Thank you, this was very helpful!..if you don't my asking how long does it usually take and how many designs do you need to have in there because as a complete beginner I find it hard building a portfolio especially when you have no clients and you're just starting from scratch.

    Learned a good amount with this video so thanks! I had a question though, do you have any suggestions for people new to this field that are trying to build up a portfolio? Having no clients and such so basically having to create solely freelance.

    • @Brightmindmarketing
      @Brightmindmarketing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HTHoarder In my opinion your portfolio is gold. In my past, when an opportunity
      would arise or I was referred to someone by family or friends, I would
      stress to gather up examples on a moment's notice. Having your work
      ready to go at a moment's notice will make your life easier. While it
      may not be the best practice to work for free for people, you may be
      able to reach out to a local business that's a good fit and donate your
      services. Maybe a business that works for a cause you believe in but
      can't afford professional services. This type of work can be a tax write
      off as well. That way, when a potential client comes along they can see
      real work you have provided to other clients. It's all about getting
      experience and building your portfolio. Also, referrals are the absolute
      best source of business so if you can donate your services, you just
      might get referrals passed your way if you do a good job, and that can
      be more valuable than someone's money :) Hope that is s helpful.

    Helpful stuff! Just curious about the .psd templates: Do the "flat" pages that you upload to the various sections automatically render into the page curve and perspective as seen in the final product? If so, that must have been a headache to create. Thanks--nice video!

    • @Brightmindmarketing
      @Brightmindmarketing  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, many PSD files with smart objects will do all of the cool perspective stuff when you upload a "flat" page or image. I can't imagine creating one of those files myself, so I'm glad other people do and I can just buy them or download them for free!

    Good advice! One thing: It seems you turned the contrast up very high on the mockups, which makes the lighting look very sharp and unnatural. Maybe tone it back a bit or a lot. Otherwise great tut!
