This channel is huge for me developing as a jazz guitarist. I have played for years and found it difficult to learn straight from books. These lesssons really break down what is happening musically. They also inspire me to keep playing

As you say it's important to transcribe but at the same time I find it the most difficult part of playing the guitar.
Thanks for the video and tips.

Hey bro, been following you for a few years and definitely notice your improvement in explaining ideas, as well as of course clarity in video and audio. Always loved that Chet tune and always wanted to transcribe it!

Jamie Holroyd Guitar will do - and to answer your call for suggestions at the end, I absolutely LOVE Wes Montgomery - Too Late Now. One of the beautiful and timeless simple chord solos for the main section and a lovely little jazz/bluesy solo. That one I DID transcribe 🤙🏽

Agreed. I'm not big on jazz overall (which is why I seek Jamie's channel when I to not completely ignore that valuable genre) but Kenny is THE man for me. He's so bluesy which is why I can relate to his playing a lot more. Grant Green is great too.

Kenny can get quite fast but I agree most of his material is accessible.

@@jamieholroydguitar That is true, but for me personally I have a better grasp of what he's doing because he plays very bluesy and it sounds more familiar than more jazzy lines.
Love your channel! Keep it up :)

Jamie, I love your videos. When you tell your students to “transcribe” a solo, I assume you mean the student should not only “learn” (or memorize) the solo, but write it down on musical “chart paper”, note for note, in proper “standard music notation”. Just learning the solo is not transcribing the solo, in which case, understanding standard music notation, and it’s relation to the guitar fretboard, is a necessary prerequisite to transcribe guitar solos, correct? Obviously this is a HUGE SUBJECT. I assume you have some TH-cam videos on the fundamentals of guitar transcription. Can you recommend where to start? Thanks!

Thanks glad you like the video! If you search my name then transcription you should find one or two videos with direct instruction. I recommend both writing down and just memorising transcriptions. I like to write them down so I have them for future reference. Hope this helps!

Did I notice you using a D minor7 sharp 5 at 6:09? on the Miles Davis piece? Great lesson!

Transcription may be a little beyond me right now. Can you Offer anyplace to start that's a bit less intimidating? Thank you.
