We just rode this by horse , but only 10+ miles starting at Lyle. I used your video to show the route to my husband. Loved watching your whole loop!

Glad it was helpful! How did the horses do on that old railroad bed?

Well, we should have watched your video before we went and planned for more time lol. Normally the rails to trails we do are a smaller size gravel and allow some faster travel. They did fine on it, but most of the very rocky areas we had to go slow and the areas that would have allowed trotting we played "duck the tree branch" too often to get going. But the trail was beautiful and they had no issues navigating it.
I will say the bridge that crosses the river (Where you lean over to look) is quite the view from on top a horse! I had to deep breath a bit. But man is it that a beautiful canyon.

Just did the Lyle Mullet yesterday... it was Epic... Will not confirm nor deny whether we jump over the fence to get into the Klickitat Trail as the locks were still on at the top gate due to fire hazards even though had been raining the last couple of days😀... Thanks again for this content, it served us well!

I love that trail, for some reason. All my friends seem to hate it. I really like the quietness in the Swale area. If you pause for a little meditation, you can start to hear your own body. It's like being in a sound booth. Most unfortunate about the land-owners issue. I wish that could have been resolved more peacefully.
Love your vids man. As a fellow PNW resident and MTBer, so good to have this content.

As a person who has rescently moved to Klickitat county, there is a very special beauty in this area. Trails like this exhibit not only the amazing landscapes of eastern Washington, but also a history to these small towns such as Klickitat and Lyle.
If you ever end up taking to this trail again, I'd advise you to continue riding past the driveway toward the broken bridge near Klickitat, and take some carbonated spring water from the lone pipe on the beach! There's a sign post in the driveway explaining its intriguing history.
Greetings from Goldendale, and happy trails!

I did not realize there’s a carbonated spring there. I’ll check it out next time!

Great video. After watching your video I went to check out the trail this weekend for the first time and had a blast! Didn’t do the loop, I just went up from the parking lot up to the town and back. You are totally right about the tires and perhaps suspension. I brought my 29” hardtail with front suspension and it was the perfect setup. Will go back and do the loop soon. Again, thanks for the video! Recommend to bring a bandanna to cover mouth if you go in the evening to keep the flies out of your mouth and clear glass so they don’t get into your eyes.

    Looks like a great ride!

@@VoiceOverTrailReviews :D I just love all sorts of bikes. I'm very new to the MTB side of things; I still get weirded out inflating to 20psi.

Planning to do this ride this weekend and trying to decide on 38c gravel bike or Santa Cruz hardtail with 2.4s…leaning towards the hardtail based off your comments.

    • @ovtj
      @ovtj ปีที่แล้ว

On second thought, I’ll just take the hardtail 😂
      Post ride edit:
Dalles Mtn road climb: The road consists of more hard pack now and the much of the gravel has eroded away. A gravel bike would have been fine but there were plenty of washboard spots where it was rough.
1st descent: Just as gnarly as the video describes. Glad I had the hardtail.
Klickitat: Very long railroad grade descent. Never really felt like I was going downhill, but was easy to keep a decent pace.
The convenient store stop in Klickitat was very much needed. Great for refueling and finishing the last 13 miles.
Every biker we saw was on a gravel/dropbar bike, but I'm glad I had the hardtail for this ride.
Overall, was great ride. Garmin recorded activity came in at 50 miles and just under 7 hours. Saw lots of wild life and made for a memorable trip for sure. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for reviewing this route! Ive done the portion from Lyle to Klickitat as an out and back, but I’ve been wondering about doing it as a loop. I only have a hard tail, and some of the rides close to Portland (like Cold Creek) aren’t necessarily hard tail friendly. It seems like this would be a good option in the spring when many trails are still too muddy. It’s not too far to drive, and you get a ton of scenery in. Though I have a gravel bike too, I usually have that set up more for road riding, so I might give this route a shot with my hard tail 29er. I can always lockout the fork on the pavement.

Hard tail 29'r is the perfect bike for this trail.

@@VoiceOverTrailReviews Mine's fully rigid carbon hard tail, but with a 2.6" Rekon up front -- section below Klickitat would be fine yeah?

Not too bad, actually. It’s not always windy in the gorge. It’s just often really windy when it is.
