    Very well explained. One of these days I'll get around to building cabinets for my house, and I'll do it almost just like this (just a different door style). I'd heard of the Zeta before, but this was the first time I've actually seen what it does. Holy cow it's cool!

  • @johntiefel4248
    @johntiefel4248 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow!! Great stuff. I would love to have a top end workshop like that. However; I have one bone to pick with Blum. I use the full-extension, soft-close drawer guides for both shelfies in my lower sets of cabinets. If you have bad knees and/or back, this keeps you off the floor, on all fours trying to retrieve that frying pan that got pushed to the back of the cabinet. You can’ believe how nice this is. The problem being; (at least I have been unable to find a solution) Blum does not make a soft-close door hinge that opens wide enough to allow the door to open wide enough to enable the drawer to be pulled out of the cabinet. I have had to use the Blum 160 (degree) door hinge. I called Blum about four years ago, they could only offer a secondary device that is applied to the opposite side of the hinge side of the cabinet that absorbs the impact of the door as it closes. Are there any new developments to correct this situation???

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do make such a hinge. It's called a zero protrusion hinge. I used them on my tall pantry cabinet that has pull out shelves.

    I typically assemble boxes with confirmat screws, which means I don't have to glue the joints. But I've seen enough of the Lamello Tenso fasteners now to know I need to look into that option. Thanks Guy.

    Great video Guy. Clear and concise ! I am a big fan of Blum's hinges and slides. One note : it is beneficial to have Posidrive bits on hand to adjust the Blum door hinge screws, especially the Zero Protrusion mechanism as a Phillips tends to cam out.
    If you had to choose one system for joining the cabinet components would you choose pocket holes, Dominos, or Lamello?

    Old thread but hopefully still monitored. Great how-to! Two questions:
    1. Does the Lamello system provide more lateral strength than the Festool Domino? Assuming you have used both.
    2. What did you use at the end of the guide rail to set the correct first hole placement? Was that a home made jig?

I would be worried that when i would flip the track around for the rear shelf pins that they might be off. If off even a little it would seem like the shelf may not sit flat.

    Guy, I'm following along to build my own built in desk using the same Process32 instructions and many of the same techniques and tools. I'd be very interested in knowing the exact names of the materials used, i.e. specific manufacturer, grade, name of the plywood for the carcass and same for the pre-primed material. More details the better as there are so many nuances to plywood selection (grading, core material, rotary cut spliced vs whole etc) and I'm having trouble tracking down a product that will work for me without spending a boatload. Currently considering Columbia Forest Products special order through Home Depot, their MPX lineup, at $95/sheet but haven't committed.
    Further question: what purpose does the divider rail serve on the base cabinet between the door and drawer? The drawer slides aren't resting on it and the door is full overlay with a 3mm or 1/8 gap.
    Thank you for your time in answering my question(s).

      I had my son 3D print them for me since the stock Festool ones won't give the correct offset for the Blum Process 32 ssytem

      Honestly, this is a super niche product, BUT it’s EXACTLY why I was searching the comments. I am 100% interested in buying these. Thoughts Guy? Would your son be willing to make these and sell a few of them?
      I NEED them for my LR32 system. And would love to support your sons ingenuity.
      Thanks and hope to hear back.
      Be well~

    I love how Fest Tool had to come out with an expensive sock to go over their ribbed hose to prevent hang-ups. When I saw the price I made my own.

    What kind of edge banding did you use? Are you painting the edge also? Or are the doors white and this keeps you from having to paint the edges?

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used melamine edge banding so I didn't have to paint the edges.

    Ha. Very nice. Wish I had 30k worth of high quality tools. The hardest part would be finding the finished maple sheets. Not available in my area. Might be able to order it. I'd probably just use the $54 maple 4x8 sheets lowes sells and spray paint it. Nice video. I like how he says "very easy". Then why do my projects come out like a Homer Simpson spice rack? I've built a few things like a dropoff and pantry shelving system. I dont like banding much. Bit tricky with the iron and ending with a completely flat surface.

      Thanks! It is easy if you know the steps and start with quality materials.

      @@GuysShop well I kinda exaggerated about my skills. Not even close to yours though. My dropoff I built was huge took 6 full sheets of maple plywood. I used banding with a heat gun but ended up using filler and wood glue to make it perfectly smooth then painted. I have a bit of OCD so my skills vs what I envision dont match. I did wire in LED DC lighting into the light switch on the wall so all the shoe boxes light up when it's on. Oh darn I'm just rambling now.

    Is it difficult to work to metric dimensions with your imperial LS fence? I am considering getting one (in imperial) but don't want to sacrifice my abilities to measure in millimeters...
