@@mahvel2381 a 12100f only gets about 5 FPS less than the 12400f, so I'd say go for the i3, prices in my country is always going to be high, because if I change our currency to US Dollars, it will be 197 USD for the i5, our import costs is absolute madness, but if you're on a budget and want a CPU that is a true budget king, supports Both DDR4 and DDR5 and supports PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 go for the i3, as it will infact last a couple of years.
I can attest to the new gens being too overpowered to warrant paying more unless it is for heavily multi core demanding tasks. The new i3 and ryze 5 entries are so overpowered that the different /$ is measly and unjustified.
Yeah........ an i3 will get the job done if you have a RX 6600, but for literally anything other than 1080p gaming you're gonna need more cores and more threads. There is a reason they make the CPU's that have as high performance that they have. It's because technology is growing and we need better hardware to handle more data. If everyone had an i3 12100 most people would be more than fine, but mid-range GPUs and production workers will need many more cores and threads.
I have the i3 12100f in my build. Paired with an 8GB RTX 3050. The games I run regularly, like War Thunder run Ultra Wide 4k (3840x1600) at 60+ FPS. I also have a GeForce Now Ultimate subscription for games my current build can’t handle. The i3 and RTX 3050 8GB are ultimately going to be used as backups. As I plan to upgrade to an i7 12700k and at least an EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080Ti.
Couldn't agree more... I see so many people going out to buy $2000 PCs with Core i9s in them, and then they only use them to play games and that's it, and I'm just like "...why??" Not to mention that the 7 and 9 tier cpus from AMD and Intel are advertised as 'the best gaming CPUs', and while yes, that is 'technically true', it's barely any different in games from something like a core i3. Like I absolutely get it if you're a content creator or someone who does intense work, but the intensive work in games comes from graphics, not CPU instructions
But if you pair an i3/3600 with a 3070 & above GPUs, you are losing anywhere from 30-40% performance because the cpu is bottlenecking the GPUs. While I agree i9 and the 5800 X3D are completely unnecessary for gaming only, the 3600/i3 also leaves no room for upgrade. The sweet spot for Gaming when it comes to CPU is the mid tiers.
I still think that I5 is the better choice because it would allow you to upgrade the GPU again in a few years and handle it without problems where the I3 might create a bottleneck and trust me CPU bottlenecks are not fun, I am speaking from experience
People who decide between these two CPUs realistically won't buy a new 600 bucks graphics card in 3 years. And if, then you could as well put a new Raptor Lake CPU into that mainboard as well.
I just Picked up an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G for $159.99 at Micro Center but they also sent me a coupon for $25 off any AMD CPU so I showed them that which brought the price down to $134.99 for a Ryzen 5 5600G which has 6-cores. Daughter has i3-10100f + GTX 1660. Genshin Impact runs super smooth. She's happy. I regret going for the Intel platform with new mobo+new cpu. Should have gone AM4 new mobo + used CPU. Reason? Upgrade path. AM4 > LGA1200
Would you recommend the i3 12100f over the R5 5500? I am slightly leaning toward the 12100f as it seems like it would have a better upgrade path since the 5500 is already technically “out of date” and they are fairly similar in performance.
I've just made the decision to buy the i3 12100f based on that logic, the upgrade path is better with Intel CPUs. Choose a good motherboard and you're covered for the next years.
Anyone looking for 2k or 4k experience on their 60 inch flatscreen should invest min 1 grand on their build and stop skimping on their cpu . If you can’t afford that then get a better job or appreciate the 1080p which is amazing on normal monitors

I've been gaming for many years, and I only use Intel i3 (except for the 10th gen)...those who look down on i3 are snobs who either haven't really tried i3s and are quick to judge blindly, or, they just have waaaaay too much money to spend on rigs, looking for XXX FPS, that the human eye could barely make a difference of. If you are building a new PC in 2023, AMD seems to give you more bang for your buck. With a Ryzen 5 5600x, you are ending up with comparable performance to i5-12400 for a significantly lower price, if we factor in prices for motherboards. Even if we compare the Ryzen 5 5600x to an i3-12100, you only end up paying 30$ more for a significantly stronger CPU. However, as this video shows, the i3 remains a perfectly suitable CPU for gaming that will probably last you a few generations from now. So, if you are already running an i3, it's probably best to stay on that until your next fresh build. By the way, before you ask, the Ryzen 5 5600 and the 5600x are so similar in performance that you could use them interchangably without noticing any real difference. The additional 200 Mhz of the 5600x simply doesn't tranlate into any noticable performance-difference. But, since both are the same price right now, there is no reason to not get the nominally stronger 5600x.
The problem is that you do notice the difference. Over time the sluggish performance starts creeping through all those cracks and you end up wishing you had something better.

@@malcolmjelani3588 go see a mental health care specialist.
Yeah........ an i3 will get the job done if you have a RX 6600, but for literally anything other than 1080p gaming you're gonna need more cores and more threads. There is a reason they make the CPU's that have as high performance that they have. It's because technology is growing and we need better hardware to handle more data. If everyone had an i3 12100 most people would be more than fine, but mid-range GPUs and production workers will need many more cores and threads.
was a life-saver. Thanks a lot.
The sweet spot for Gaming when it comes to CPU is the mid tiers.
i3 = for gamers only
i5 - i7 = for content creators
