American Bandstand 1967 -In Color Pt. 2- Lazy Day, Spanky & Our Gang
ฝัง

- “What a day for pickin' daisies and lots of red balloons…“, 60’s sunshine pop at it’s best! The kids, including many of the regulars, dance to Spanky and Our Gang’s #14 hit…in glorious living color.
Watch for shots of the cameras and crew while they are dancing and rare shots of the TV monitors near the bleachers that (I think) are live shots of the show where they can see themselves.
…..And on TV tonight, after new episodes of Hogan’s Heroes and Petticoat Junction, it’s the 6th annual Miss Teenage America Pageant on CBS….The judges are John Banner (Sgt. Schultz) and none other than Dick Clark.
Here’s the description from TV Guide:

We will never pass this way again. Thanks for the wonderful memories ❤️
I was 10 in 1967. We were little mod-psychedelic hipsters wearing all the latest mod fashions, groovy haircuts and had all the latest 45 singles and albums! And even at that age, girl-crazy! This song epitomized the soundtrack of my life during that era in history. Although, no life is idyllic and perfect, I had a good life as a child!
Back when America had CLASS!!!
Glen, 'America' - has been history, - for a very very long time.
And American boys feared the draft.
Before girls with piercings in their faces and tattoos covering their bodies!!!! Yeah that’s really attractive 😫
The girls back then were quite homely. Not a single pretty girl in that bunch. The Beatles once commented on how homely the American girls were.
@@pollypurree1834
And Paul picked the homeliest! 😂
This 8 year-old in 1967 thanks his older brother for introducing me to some great music and allowing me to play all his 45's whenever I wanted.
Mine was cousins who were in elementary school , I was 7 and they would help me with my homework. Now I've been introducing my Granddaughter to all of the music I grew up on , at the age of 3 she could sing them word for word and name the artist and song , she's 12 now .
Age 9 playing 45 🤷♀️ looked forward watching American♥️ Bandstand TV
I was 10 when I heard this song. Great feel good music.
To all these gorgeous girls! You had so much class! Love You!!! Class seems to be gone today..
I love Spanky and our Gang. And i loved the 60's and 70's. So much better than these scary times.
For me it would be the 50s 60s 70s 80s & 90s some rare 00s but 2010s this decade SUCKS
Her voice so clean😉😎
Oh i don't know. I think the potiential of being drafted to Vietnam was pretty scary.
the assassinations of 4 prominent figures, numerous race riots and rebellious drug induced young people were pretty scary too.
@@michaelcrockette8694 yea there was that, but it was the summer of love as they called it, my perants were from the time period, so they told me a bit about comming of age around the time then, but most of all loved the music from the time, especially mom I grew up listinging to this on oldies radio 50's and 60's and then early 70's, but one thing it was a tumultuous time of change, but often times the music actually had meaning and a message, not always though sometimes it was just feel good and catchy and had wicked good harmonies, like the sunshine pop here, or association band, or the 5th demension, or the cowsills, and monkeys, but it still had feel even if it was the feeling of a nice day and being happy, at least your protests were mostly pieceful, the young today while well meaning often times resort to more malcom x style message delivery, then reverand martin luther king, and some of them did not wish to just expand their mind, but genuinely use it as a cover for revolution and something more marxist and they embedded into the powers that be, and it took hold of the minds of gen y and z and they think socialism is the best thing since sliced bread even after the fall of the wall and the ussr and that which 2 gens of our fathers and brothers and sisters fought to stop the spread of or were sent to do, sure socialism looks nice on paper, but its anything but in practice, and causes death and misery way past what they did in ww2, and it makes a god of the state instead of God or what one holds as a divine entity of their choice in our representive republic democracy, just look at china now, the old hard line is back, and people did not learn from history and are on the way to repeat it, only this time they are playing for keeps, and treat their own people like dirt, just look at what they did during the pandemic to them, and to hong kong, as well as the social credit systom its scary stuff.
the song on the other hand here is nice and about a pleasent down day and people having fun and affection with each other, and other nice things, and been listining to it lots the last several days espcially during the 4th cuz here it was a nice sunny day with wicked nice cars at the car show in the park next to the highschool and lots of people having a great day and many I have known for years but dont see all that often anymore, it was the usa's birth day it was a time to celebrate what we hold in our better ideals and what all that blood of fighting for it got us to here its not perfect but its the best we can muster in this world, that and the day after was nice and just cloudless and sunny good for having a quick beer or soda in the shade and cooking out.
Color made such a big difference. the first color broadcast I saw was in 1965 as a 10 yr old kid hanging out in the zenith store while mom was shopping in the grocery next door. The store owner had about 5 color sets in his display all on----plus some black & whites; (during broadcast of Kentucky derby). Most of shows then were still broadcast in black & white but because it was the derby---the broadcast was in color----it was so cool.
Incredible time and a fabulous song that should be remembered for all time Lazy Day 1967 what a time !!!!!!!
Back in time lazy day was fun, today everyday is a lazy day for this generations!!

Born in 1966, this magical song actually brings tears to my eyes while listening and watching this color footage.
Thinking about how many of these young men were soon to be taken by force into the Vietnam War.
Thinking about how many of these young women were soon to lose their brothers and boyfriends and husbands.
Thinking about how many people dont even know or could care less now.
Thinking about way too much denial.

I was born in 1950, but yet I understand.
I know ,man. The carefree, innocence of my life then. I'm 67 and remember this song well.. It's funny-as I get older I 've gotten more emotional and cry more often. I hope these kids made out ok.
Michael, yes, indeed! I lost my 3rd cousin at the age of 21 when he stepped on a land mine in Vietnam and was killed instantly. I never met him but it was so tremendously sad for our family. When I watch these videos, I wonder the same thing. In 1967, I was 10 and was totally immersed in pop culture, loving and living every bit of it! My childhood during the entire decade of the 1960s was so outta sight!!
@@richardo5951 Yes, Richard. Myself, also.
I was about 12 maybe 13 when I heard that song on the radio for the first time about the time my parents were going through a messy divorce but when I'd listen to that song it immediately brought me out of my blue funk and made those turbulent times suck a little bit less.
I long for 1967 again. 💕🤸♂️
I can watch this show all day and never get bored of it . The only thing I could think of this show is fantastic full of memories And fun .
I rated some new music in 66 or 67 on the show and keep seeing if that episode appears.

Yep and Americans were real Americans, people worked went to church and school believed in God for the most part, and most people did the right things and got along with each other much better than now Period and it's a proven fact!!!!!

I was born in 68 but oddly this is still better than today. I love the 60s clothing styles and such. Music was eclectic and more exciting to listen to.
How I felt too, though I was born in '77.
Love. Spanky and our gang. Great voice. I love this song. Thanks for sharing...☀️✨⭐️
Today's almost everything is crap compared to then... Love these videos
That's for sure!
Nearly today's music is the same formuliac crap over and over!
No, EVERYTHING
👎😠 Most `music´ today has no melody. Just chanting and a bass beat. Real crap !
Yes, it is a shame the adults didn't make more of an effort to preserve American culture for the next generations.
I don't know which song I like better, Lazy Day or Sunday Will Never Be The Same. They are both excellent and bring back so many wonderful memories.I Love The Sixties !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Even though I was born in '72, what can I say? Beautiful, surreal harmony, right up there with the likes of Petula Clark, Chad and Jeremy, the Who, the Fifth Dimension, Joe Cocker, the Mamas and the Papas, Jethro Tull, America/A Horse With No Name, and, don't take offense on these last four---the Banana Splits, Josie and the Pussycats, the Partridge Family, and the music of Charles Fox on Love, American Style :-)

True..but alot of these guys probably got drafted during the Vietnam Era.

what groovy times, how much I would like to be dancing sunshine pop in the sixties, I would love
This was my favorite song back in 1967. Great memories.
To any young people who might watch this, take swing dance lessons if you EVER have the chance! It will amaze you the kind of people you meet, just like these kids, total class! About 50 high school kids invaded our little swing dance group in Boca, Fl a few years ago. We thought they'ed give it up quick as they stumbled around trying to learn "triple step". 8 weeks later they were swinging like the coolest ever, they said they got in the groove from watching old videos. One guy even came to an event with his grandfather's dress Army uniform from WW2, just awesome! Class still exists, go for it!
I wish I could have gone back in time and met these folks!
On of the best Flower Power songs ever made!!!!

I hope the young black couple had a good life. They are always smiling and seem like really nice people.
I hope they are both still alive healthy and happy.
There are several black kids in the video and I'll hazzard a guess they went on to have happy lives .......
One of those kids was Don Cornelius who created _Soul🎶Train_ and put Clark on the skids 👌😁
I have seen the tall black man guy in several clips . Always has a lovely big smile
He is Steve Hooks aka Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols read this >> www.quora.com/Where-are-Jenny-Nichols-and-Famos-Hooks-today-after-American-Bandstand-in-the-late-60s

Wonderful music...... Wonderful time to be young!
Hi there.. how are you doing? Hope you are fine and staying safe over there??
I was born in 1996, so I was -30 years old when this song came out. I remember being a kid and seeing new music being played on MTV, which never impressed me, but then a car commercial would come on and play some hit from the 60s like this, which was always way better.
3 yrs old in 1967 a tail-end boomer. All those kids my parents' age then, mom was 20 and dad was 26. Love this music!
Love it, so many iconic “oldies” I grew up listening to or just barely remembering as a little kid when they first came out, and wondering often just how kids danced to them-eg, many Motown hits sounded and seemed easier to listen to than to dance to (like Supremes’ You Can’t Hurry Love-that seemed probably another herky-jerky one to get down on the dance floor with, IMO!). :j
I agree, some of the best songs from this time can be really challenging to dance to and it’s fun seeing what the dancers do with these, especially when most of the songs are so new to them at the time. Thanks for the comments!
At 2:38 . That kid giving the peace sign :) That was the 60s alright.
I like the guy at 0:14. He's like "This isn't the best dance song, but we can do this. We're gonna get through this. When the world gives you lemons, you make lemonade"
Yeah like Paul Revere of the Raiders did after his lead singer quit and he lost his Colombia record contract. He kept his leg rolling for 54 years, which is Quite a feat when you consider his defeats. Truly a great band leader
And lots of red balloons and what a time to think right out loud, I Love You, Lazy Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The girls were all just so beautiful then! They are your grandmother's now, just think about that young people! They were so beautiful!
Dude at 0:31 is saying, "No, I ain't dancing to this!" Several others are sitting it out as well.
YouCanDanceToit This is so funny! Thanks for posting this. Good eye for spotting all the cameras, crew and monitors. The entire background of Famous at 1:38 is camera and camera operator! HA! I love the way that guy at :55 gets spooked like they poked him with a cattle prod to get out of the way! It was hard to know when they were focusing on you or wanted you to give way but that was a priceless reaction. Most of the dancers did seem to be watching the monitors to see if and when they would be on camera just like the Jumbotron at a Dodger baseball game. To show how dull the song was, people were just sitting on the base of the podium 1:35 and Frank was playing around with something in his hands :36. Good one Aaron!
Hi Peggy, that reaction at :55 made me laugh too. I don’t know who that is, but I’ve seen him acting funny in other clips too. And I noticed that about Frank too. If this were today, I’d think he had a fidget spinner or something. Great comments Peggy! -Aaron
PS, were you ever nervous or self conscious about dancing on national tv...with giant cameras in your face? I asked Don that and he said he really wasn’t, especially after a few shows. I know I would have been nervous. As a teenager I remember getting embarrassed just dancing at school dances or wedding receptions, lol.
I wasn’t nervous about dancing, but I got stage fright every time I had to say something. My brain would stop working. I was the youngest in the family and very outgoing. It seemed there was always a camera in my face. I just let it roll over my shoulders. I LOVED to dance! It was just the best feeling ever. You could not make me sit still when a great dance number would play. I really thought that sit down concerts were so dumb. I think, like many of the regulars, we became friendly with the camera operators, and that made us feel more comfortable. I think I remember one of them named “Ken”. We also changed positions around the stage so everyone would get a fair chance to let their grandma in Wisconsin see them. Most of us anyway, haha!
